Last episode showed the results of unlimited faith and religion, this episode showed the results of unhindered science. Both extremes.

While true, science for lack of a better word, preaches, uncertainty. "Our findings suggest." "It has not been confirmed." etc. Religion on the other hand preaches certainty and it's certainty that is dangerous and gives people an excuse to act. While both can be practiced anywhere on the spectrum, the message is very different.

@@Londronable by unhindered he means unguided by morals. Science can tell you how something works, by not how things *ought* to be. In my future field of psychology, we could definitely learn a lot about the mind if we didn't have ethical standards, but the moral purpose of psychiatry and psychology is to help people so we restrain ourselves. its no accident that Amestris is coded like WW2 Germany, because at that time the state let scientists run free on Jewish people and others in the camps. unhindered science leading to true horrors. Gold Tooth is defintely an allusion to Joseph mengele in my opinion.

@@OlPalJoe I agree with you on this. One thing about science is it can tell us where morals came from. They developed through evolution. Our morals as human can also be very different from morals of another animal or another intelligent alien species (while I do believe there are other intelligent beings in the universe i don't think they have ever been here). Religion set a standard of morals from an ancient time were things we consider disgusting were seen as right. The problem is religion doesn't change as we grow, it fights so hard to hold onto those outdated beliefs. Science has nothing to do with morals, its just a system for us to determine what's true and whats not. Morals and ethics are needed in science though, there is a line we should never cross when preforming experiments

Completely agree the old fma anime was even darker with the Nina thing, they play a more important part in the overall story and Tucker gets a much darker faith. They let you a couple episodes to familiarize with both of them

I’m not sure if you’ve realised this but Edward puts all the guilt and shame on himself, he feels like things were his fault. He’s extremely guilty that he couldn’t do anything to save Nina and her dog.

His room was fucking written and riddled in scribbles of random transmutation circles/recipes over-time, retrograding Tucker's descent, and their visual representation of their 'death' was even worse.

Some facts about this episode in particular. In the sub Scar asks for two souls to be welcomed...not two HUMAN souls, meaning he only meant Nina and Alexander. In the manga the author has a page at the end of each book where she draws the characters that have died going to heaven. Tucker is the only one she has drawn burning in hell.

As far as ANIME goes, this isn't close to being the original seven deadly sins. The Black Star Dragons from DBGT were based on the seven deadly sins. Hell, I personally can go back as far as Ronin Warriors. If you call yourself a fan, then educate yourself before you try to educate someone else. But that's how youth is. I'm sure that someone older than me could correct me by saying something like "Astro Boy used the concept of the SDS," or "The first Decepticons that you're introduced to in Transformers were based off of the SDS."

If he wasn't a villain when he killed The _________, he sure as hell is, at this point. And McDougal tried to kill anyone who got in his way, to say nothing of his trying to recruit Kimblee in his plans. No, it's not so much a discussion of whether they're villains or not; it's more an idea of whether or not they can find redemption in the wake of their actions. The Freezer was unrepentant of his actions, what some would call "committed to his cause." Scar has yet to bear the full brunt of his past choices...

make sure you watch the OVAs. The blind alchemist OVA is the greatest OVA I've ever seen. Don't say anything about it in replies cos it might indirectly spoil it.
