I'm not American, I'm from Ireland but I'm currently living in New Jersey. When they shut down the state, my family here were pissed. With the timing of the Fourth of July weekend, it spoiled so many people's plans and for the governor to basically go "too bad your not rich enough to have an estate on a beach yet boohoo" left a bad taste in their mouth. The fact he was out on the beach and not helping sort out this dead lock also didn't help people's moods. The same happens back home they get ridiculous summer and Christmas breaks and took 3/4 months to create a government for gods sake so it's not that shocking. The thing that got me was people cracking jokes/ criticizing Christys weight. That has nothing relatively to do with his governor role. If he was the minister for health maybe yeah it can be justified but in relation to this no. Criticize the fact he puts more hours into a radio sports show he appears on more than a normal working week? There are ten million things to go after but people poke fun at his body. Really?

I don't think you have to choose between being relatable OR being an example. There are so many people who do both every day in the public eye - from celebrities to RU-vid creators to sports stars to fucking Bill Nye. I'm sorry in advance to not have a different example - I wish I did, trust me, but I'm not old enough to remember the personal lives of many Presidents so here's my experience with relatability of people in the exact same position - IMO Obama handled this exact thing in a much better way (being on social media/ shows, interactions with celebrities and normal people, showing how important his family is, being honest about mistakes from his past, being shown drinking(/smoking on rare occasion), etc etc...). Obama was 100% more relatable to me than Trump has been even for a second. And that has NOTHING to do with politics. Trump posting a meme doesn't make him relatable to me - it makes him seem childish. It makes him seem like rather than being able to form well-composed thoughts about a situation he has to stoop to the lowest common denominator and post a stupid video. I guess if you have a life very different from mine, maybe there are parts of Trump's life that are relatable? For me vacationing every week, spending millions of dollars you were given, being rude to people you don't like, and occasionally posting something arguably funny doesn't make him relatable - it makes him seem like an asshole. I'm sure people are going to start yelling about me being a liberal blahblahblah whatever but this has nothing to do with politics for me. I don't have to find someone relatable to prefer their policies, but I complete disagree with the "Trump is relatable" and the "you have to be either an example or relatable choose one" arguments. (And just to preemptively answer - Do I personally relate to Hilary Clinton? Not really.)

I've never been a WWE fan. So correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this "smackdown"? The way I perceived this was that Trump has been giving CNN a Smackdown. Not encouraging violence. I could go on and on about how hypocritical CNN is with this situation, and how they're trying to victimize themselves with this, but instead I'll just say this: I thought this was absolutely hilarious and couldn't stop laughing and chuckling to myself for a good 30 minutes at work after seeing this. The 71 year old president is demolishing/trolling CNN so easily and they're playing right into his hand. I love it!

I live in NJ, the cops and park rangers have all the state parks blocked off. We tried to to go tubing in the Delaware river, on the NJ side. All the cars parked by the entrance were ticketed. It's 4th of July weekend and we're not allowed in our own state parks, bullshit.

It is absolutely preposterous to think Trump's video was a call for violence. What employee of CNN watched that and didn't feel safe as a result of that video. Edit: in this comment, I'm not trying to 'bash' Trump, I'm simply applauding Philip's wording of the phrase. I've seen little to no approach so calm and... reasonable. I've experienced 'Fuck you, Trump is not MY president, and I won't support him' and 'Fuck you, Trump IS your president and you SHOULD support him.' DeFranco's phrase was rather refreshing.

I absolutely hate Chris Christy! I'm a resident of NJ and since he shut down all of the DMVs, my friends and I can't get our licenses and my dad can't update his. He is the reason the budget didn't go through! He wastes our tax money on helicopters and beach houses instead of putting it into the state. He is selfish and always has been. In New Jersey we have a political pendulum that swings from party to party every 2 terms. The guy before Christie was hated just as much as he is now and we wanted change. Chris Christies campaign made us all believe HE was going to be the one to lower taxes and that HE was going to revive Camden, Atlantic City, and Newark. Little did we know this would happen
