Today, we discuss the much misunderstood topic of accreditation as it pertains to Bible colleges. We explain what accreditation is. How higher education is assessed, and whether this is really a good thing.

For whatever reason, a wonderful quote from Fallout: New Vegas came to mind: "they asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I said I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard"

Good addition to this series. For bivocational pastors who can't (yet) make it to seminary, I would recommend a certification program that would be transferrable to an accredited seminary later, over an unaccredited pseudo-"degree". I think some seminaries do this sort of thing as extension campuses, especially at some of their hub churches

Hi Aaron, that is a great recommendation!!! Indeed, with a certificate program from an accredited school, the credits would be transferable.

The seminary I attend is unaccredited, however, there are accredited colleges that will accept the credits I earn toward graduate degrees. If someone is interested in attending an unaccredited college I would suggest looking into whether or not accredited colleges will accept credits from the college of interest.

Hey! New to the channel and this type of information, but I was wondering if your familiar with Ralph Ellises theories on Egypt and the biblical prophets and character being pharaohs ? And what your take on his information is if you are familiar with it

I know you are new to my channel, so you need to know that I don't sugar-coat my opinion. I generally call a spade a spade. I think Ralph Ellis is a fringe, mythicist revisionist nutjob. He has no idea what he's talking about.

I transferred from a private secular university to a private “highly denomination” university to be around my preferred dating pool. A lot of students there had received a two year unaccredited degree and then had to start over to actually get a ministry job any place but the small town they grew up in, since nothing officially transferred…. But over half of them thought it was worthwhile for a few reasons: 1) their home churches had paid ALL living and education expenses for the two years of unaccredited training. 2) They got to jump in to their educations focusing on biblical languages, counseling, and other classes they were passionate about, saving the accreditation formalities of math and English for when they had some momentum. 3) Retaking basic theology and biblical language classes was easy, so they could take maximum allowable class hours and still get good grades, meaning they got their four year degrees in three years. 4) some no longer wanted to do ministry, but at least learned that in two years instead of the 4-5 many students spend before confronting the realities of the profession.

Hey Dr. Falk! I recently got to comment-debate Ford Perfect, on IP's Exodus Rediscovered comment section. He has made many strange claims regarding the Pentateuch, like that the Edomites appeared in the 8th century bc, although Edom is mentioned in Papyrus Anastasi. Now he wants to defend "egyptian control over Canaan" argument. How should I respond?
@ancientegyptandthebible
@ancientegyptandthebible 2 года назад
In Q&A 43, I answered that issue directly. However, you can answer every objection Ford Prefect comes up with and he will just double down on his bizarre claims, then he gets abusive. He's a waste of time. I wouldn't bother responding to him. I personally have better things to do with my precious time. Besides, one shouldn't answer a fool according to his folly lest one may become like him. In other words, it's not worth it to feed the trolls.
@philipps6032
@philipps6032 2 года назад
@@ancientegyptandthebible I wasn't able to find any good Information for Edom in the Bible. After I have answered him he agaim replied with like *fiive* full-blown comments. 1. He said that there were no edomite cities, and no edomite kings, only the name of the land. 2. He responded that the description of Goliath is proof that the biblical text is a forgery. 3. Then he tried to defend his claim for "too early Philistines" in the Bible by saying the coastal region of Canaan was called "land of the Philistines" in Exodus. Yeah, I really shouldn't argue with fools, obviously.

A comment debate with Ford Perfect? You and me both. He said at one point Pithon didn't exist until the 7th Century BC. He said the Bible was written in the 6th Century BC and Tell-el-Maskhuta was Pithom. But according to Dr. Bietak Tell El Retaba would of been Pithom in the 12th Century. And as Phillip S points out in Papyrus Anastasi dated to the reign of Seti II (r. 1214-1208 B.C.E. herdsmen from Edom request to water their flocks at Pithom. How could they ask to water their flocks at a place that won't exist for 5 hundred years? His response was the Hebrews kept records of things 400 years in the past. At that point they only would need to have kept records for 300 more years and they have the Tanakh.

The question of what do you expect havimg finished the course is important, too. Will employers regard your diploma as valid? Helpful? Harmful?
@ancientegyptandthebible
@ancientegyptandthebible 2 года назад
It will depend. Most of the time employers will not care about your degree. However, some employers will not recognize an unaccredited degree as valid. I know that there are some government jobs that do not regard unaccredited degrees as valid. Also, if you use an unaccredited degree in an immigration application, there is a risk.

What I heard is that Bible Colleges believe Moses and David didn't exist, and deutero Isaiah and all that kind of stuff ? And I heard of that from James White, and even he drops the ball on some things.
@ancientegyptandthebible
@ancientegyptandthebible 2 года назад
White is probably saying that to justify his decision to buy three diploma mill "degrees". There are still many Bible colleges out there that still believe in a historical Moses and David and a single author for Isaiah. White is not a reliable source when it comes to higher education. This is why I made him our life lesson for the first installment of this series. 😂

@Dominic I would agree with you. And with over a 1000 theological colleges to choose from, there's a diverse set of perspectives to choose from. If you want a liberal college, you have a great selection. If you want a conservative college, there's that too. And exposure to a lot of perspectives does have its benefits.

@@ancientegyptandthebible it works both ways good Bible University in the undergraduate degree and Higher degrees at a secular University PhD like Dr.Michael S.Heiser. Or degrees in a Secular University and then coming to a Seminary after College such as Talbot or Dallas for M.div and Thd. Many go on to a PhD at Princeton or other like schools. But having a good Christian foundation before going to a liberal school is highly recommended: since people like Josh B. seem to have been highly effected by liberal interpretations and lost their Faith: seems like an Oxymoron that a religious degree would cause you to lose your religion.

We as believers should do that anyway. But some of us want a more structured and challenging learning setting, interaction with other believers in an educational setting, comprehension-based review/papers/tests, and an overall detailed and thorough breakdown of the Bible and all of its nuances. If people can dedicate themselves to studying for a "secular" degree, shouldn't there also be an option for those who want to study for a degree that is going to (ideally) strengthen their relationship with God and their knowledge of His Word, especially if they want a career in the field in which they are studying? I say why not?! It's really all about how and what all you want to learn as well as what you plan to do with what you learn. To each their own!

@@ancientegyptandthebible James White, the respected reformed theologian you've tackle in part 1? I've heard he's trying to get a legit PhD in textual criticism from a legit college from South Africa. Kent Hovind has become a joke and pariah even in his own circles, and some of his former fans have become better experts in both the Bible and science, such as InspiringPhilosophy and Ben Stanhope.

@@js1423 White announced in 2017 that he was pursuing a legitimate PhD in text criticism. Maybe he'll earn it. Maybe he won't. Statistics say that at his age and life circumstances that his probability of earning a PhD is 50/50. But as far as I am concerned, he is still fraudulently using the title "doctor" until he earns that legitimate degree. So in that respect, he is not much different than Hovind.
