I have owned a 2018 Mustang Ecoboost and absolutely loved it. I could never understand the "hate" the car got from fellow Ford fans in particular. I would always get people telling me how much they loved the way my car looked no matter where I went but there would always be that Ford guy in the midst that would go on about how I should have gotten a GT and how they would never buy a 4 cylinder Mustang. It was always funny to me because the Ecoboost is a solid platform that has 300hp to play with right out of the gate. Ford also didn't neuter the looks of the car which is great! Sitting side by side with a GT the only things that will let a person know it's an Ecoboost is the absence of the GT badging on the sides and rear and single exhaust tips. After developing a transmission fault that took the dealer over 5 months to figure out, I traded the Eco for a 2020 GT and I love it just as much. Same great looks, handling and of course that signature V8 rumble puts a smile on my face every day. You just can't go wrong with either version of the Mustang in my opinion.
@@jorgezx6r Although on paper there's not supposed to be a big difference but there is a huge difference between the two. I used to fill up my Ecoboost once every 8 to 10 days with normal driving. My GT gets filled every 6 days with normal driving. Drop that down to 4 if your driving is more aggressive. The GT is definitely no gas saver but it is a very fun beast. The Ecoboost will give you a great sporty experience with awesome looks and will give you good gas mileage to boot. Ford did very well with both models.
A lot of the 5.0 owners feel threatened by the Ecoboost because the 2.3 ecoboost out handles a 5.0 due to the front end being lighter. The second thing they feel threatened by is how well the ecoboost responds to add mods, this engine can make a lot of power, enough power to run with and even outrun many 5.0 Mustangs. I like both the ecoboost and the 5.0, I think they are both nice cars. My wife and I have a 2021 Mustang 2.3L High Performance Package ecoboost.
For street use only, a 93 Octane tune is OK, but the head gasket is questionable. You put that on the strip, something will break eventually, probably an axle. My 2015 Ecoboost is an NHRA stock eliminator. That project is over $100,000. That is a serious commitment.
The MPH that you stated is not true. I've owned both a 2015 Ecboost that I moded heavily and had a tune vs the 2019 GT I had, and both make about the same gas mileage. Both vehicles were six speed manual trans, so perhaps he is talking about the 10 Peed Autos; however, if he is that should be clearly stated.
I personally would never buy a 4cyl mustang.. but I like that the choice is there and the mustang community is bigger. That being said… you basically tip toes around he biggest problem and flaw and you actually called it a plus… these blocks DO NOT handle power very good or boost above 25ish.. how can you say you made 600rwhp and that was a positive. You got lucky it lasted for a a couple weeks before you built a lot built motor. Don’t tell people you can make that kind of power because people will Boost the hell out of their stock block and destroy it.. that’s bad on you as a company dude… they are fast and fun cars and can be nodded to be very fast.. but on average a eco boost needs a huge turbo/built block and internals/big boost/and all other mods to keep up with a bolt on 5.0. If the 5.0 had any supercharger then it’s game over basically. Some eco boost can be fast but I personally haven’t seen any local ones in the mid 10’s let alone the 9/8’s..
Ok Dominic Toretto… he did make a big ass disclaimer to recommend against it and how they dont recommend daily driving that time. But facts are facts, they made over 600 hp with their stock block car, like he stated. He said people shouldn’t be doing that for like 20 seconds of the video. How is that bad on them as a company. You are just a hater trying to hide the fact that you are hating. When i was living in a major city, id have loved a GT. Now that im in a rural area an ecoboost makes more sense. Cars are cars, “i would never get x car or x engine” is whats wrong with the car community. Why even bother with a mustang gt when a real man gets a gt350. Why get a gt350…cant afford the gt500? Ohh you only got a gt500, could get on the list for a ford GT little boy? So dumb.
@@koniko169 lol.,.. who hurt you baby? 😘. I simply said I wouldn’t own one because I wanna hear a v8 car which is how a mustang should be.. my opinion. Never said they were junk or anything like that. This video talks about how reliable they are and good and bad things. Why say you made 600hp on the stock block if it isn’t recommended and he says dont do it… then don’t list that as a positive or talk about it then, 90% of them blow up long before that… go on any forum or Facebook group where 10’s of thousands of people have them and actually talk about them. The manual trans is fucking butt slow.. and is the weakest piece of a mustang.. unless you buy a GT500 which is a super car now and 100k lol.. the gt350 has the least reliable motor of all of them. Tons of videos of engine failures on the same car even with a new engine lol., they are junk.. a tuned GT revs to 7800-8000. And gt350 revs to 8250? I’ll take my Reliable gt which is a better all around car for daily driving/track/drag. The gt350 is track only and sucks drag racing and everyday driving. Learn your info before you post on RU-vid fucking loser. Get out of your moms basement every now and then and go outside. 🤣
I know this is old but I gotta let you know I’ve personally seen a p tuned eco gap stock 5.0s with ease. And I’ve also seen a fbo/p tune eco take down not 1 but 3 fbo 5.0s. With two of those being on E85 and one of them with the 10r80 trans. Maybe the old/first gen ecos were a little bad but I’ve seen a mean eco and the guy who owned it was fully stock block and mostly stock turbo(upgraded for the fbo 5.0s) and never had an issues with his car. Just saying man. The V8 era is dying. I love the sound of a 5.0, probably imo one of the best sounding v8, but I gotta tell you it’s probably the most funniest shit seeing a 4 banger mustang gap a big boy 5.0 🤣.
@@therealjoe6272 the point of the comment is that they are not realible. I can made a 1989 Chevy s10 beat a lambo.. that doesn’t mean it is reliable or fun to drive lol.. the eco mustang has a block that can barely handle stock boost let alone anything else. A fully built engine and turbo and all mods eco runs like 11 seconds 😂🤣😂. A stock gt with e85 and a drag radial runs 11 lol. So you stick to whatever story you want but the truth is they are garbage and slow and sound like a fart 😂😛
I have a ecoboost and i take care of it every day and I will always be a fan of ecoboost, and I m going to take care of it like if its the last ecoboost that exists.
I always love 60 footing eco haters. Especially when they’re in a v8 of any kind. A lot of these stronger v8 manual trans cars can’t hook up from a red light. My 18 eco 10 speed auto will hook on grass with these tires I run, and with the gearing it is nasty from a dig on the street. I run MT radial 275s on rear. And they plant hard on the street. And in drag mode if I shift at the tip of the power band it will bark the shit out of 2nd and 3rd. It’s a fun car
I loved my ecoboost mustang years ago. Map intake map tuner map bov. The seats sit very low and the car is very comfortable. Probably the best cheapest 300hp car to play around with.
I had a 2014 V6 premium pony package before I traded for my 2018 MT82 ecoboost. Even with an Eibach suspension swap, my ecoboost handles better hands down. Mild mods (COBB stage 1 OEM tune, COBB CAI, strut tower brace, and custom 2.5” cat back exhaust), and it’s actually a quicker car than the 2014. I love Mustangs of all variations, but chose the ecoboost for all of the pros everyone talks about. No, It isn’t a GT; that’s not a negative. It has 350 hp, 400 lb/ft of torque. It also has a lighter front end, so it handles the twisties like nobody’s business. Dollar for value, it’s a great daily driver.
I think I'll learn to accept four cylinder sounds from a mustang, now that it also comes with good build quality, transmission, handling, interior, brakes, etc... I'm not stuck in the past, the trade off is worth it.
Head studs? Gasket? Ecoboom? Air con evap leak? (all early model S550 mustangs) I've had an ecoboost for 6 years and had really bad luck with it. I still love the car but when it went Ecoboom it got really expensive. I have a new engine that was built by Maperformance (uses a fusion 2.0 block) and a 4 page long build list... If done right it can be a hell of a car, if you dont beef up stuff in advance it will fail you. Fully built suspension+good wheels and tires you can get the same lateral gforces as a gt350 so its a really fun car, I own one so I can test both. Long story short only work with reputable tuners and parts. The further you push stock parts the more unlucky you will get.
@@bradleyisfishing my short block was 4k its a tune plus spec engine but maperformance built it. You have to transfer all your own parts... I'm building mine for 550 plus at the wheels so I have 12k in the engine and drivetrain which is way more than most need... If you want gt numbers at the wheels get Arp headstuds on a stock engine with full bolt on and a precision nx2 turbo and a good clutch. Go with a reputable pro tuner (I'm with tune plus but there are others) you can do that for way cheaper than where I'm at
@@jonathanellison9193 so it was 12k without any labor?? What else did you buy, and how much do you think you could put in a built block for if you’re just doing the block?
I have a 2020 I tuned it probably 5k miles in the Pd tuning I had no issues until yesterday. I’ve started getting misfire and a lean code. Rough idles . I never upgraded my plugs and I’m at about 26k now
I have an auto 17 ecoboost. K&n cold intake, y pipe with roush muffler, one step colder plugs, and cobb tuned ots stage 1. No problems at all *knock on wood* .. Also winter driven up here in Toronto.
had both a 2016 and 2018 ecoboost. Fun cars for the money. Have a 2021 GT now but will most likely pick up another 2015-17 ecoboost to use a my daily / fun day at the track car.
I have a 19 Bullitt - and today, replaced my WRX daily with a 22 Ecoboost - perfect daily qualities with the Mustang amazing body and good torque for daily driving from mall to mall.
Here’s the custom exhaust I have for my 2018 ecoboost: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ERoFkA5WBmo.htmlsi=bhqESlJWXI3SeeF9 The formula is pretty simple. Remove the stock exhaust from the down pipe, and have the muffler shop fabricate the 2.5” s-pipe to the single Magnaflow muffler (model number is in the video), and fabricate mid pipe and tail pipe, terminating at 4” tips (I chose polished stainless steel, but you can also get black powder coated tips. The 4” tip has the advantage of fitting the OEM rear valence without modification). While it still won’t sound like a V8, it will have a richer, deeper tone with no drone and a more subdued rumble. IMHO it sounds better than OEM exhaust both inside and outside the car.
I think I'm going to follow the map build tree. I'm new to the Ecoboost mustang and there are a lot of different guys to go with. Seems like map makes this path easiest to build with..
My 2015 Ecoboost went ecoboom at 30k . It threw 2 rods . When taking it apart , I noticed the intake cam bolt , was completely loose . Factory bolt wasn’t tight from factory . I have a feeling this is a cause for many cars blowing up.
From the tuner I use. He said the majority of the eco booms were from QA in some engines and other in earlier years of pushing too much power and actually stretching that head studs. Remedy is stronger studs and stronger head gasket. It isn’t full proof and he won’t tune above 400whp without a built motor. Other cases of eco boom are actually from 2 sensors that ford KNOWS are an issue and have updated sensor lab you can replace them with which fixes the other issues. No they don’t throw a code when they go bad either
Hi. Have a 2020 Ecoboost... HPP. It went Boom. A cylinder piston went bad....very ez driving it & only 22,000 miles. Ford will fix under warranty: Engine Back Ordered....I have no clue when it will be fixed. Anyone have or heard of this HPP motor going EcoBoom?
I love my EcoBoost I put 373 gears in it mishimoto intercooler compact dual blower valve 3 in garage line dump s&r muffler delete s&r cold air intake gutted it fonts custom tune precision turbonetics NXT turbo stock block runs like the wind
Could you guys elaborate more on the Ecoboost high performance package I’m looking into modifying mine performance wise such as exhaust, if you could it would be greatly appreciated
Is it the six speed manual or is it the 10 speed automatic? I’m eyeballing a six speed manual eco-boost in a couple of years because I plan on keeping my Mazda three as my daily so I figure why getting automatic if I’m already gonna have an automatic car but I’m just looking for some feedback.
@@blarghman332 i have the 10 speed eco and i love it for my first car and on a 40 roll and 50 roll i easily gap the v6 mustangs and i keep up with the 5.0 but i have a bigger turbo coming in so idk i might take 5.0 with it but idk yet but i test drove the 6 speed didn't like it as much as i did the 10 but it might just be personal preference i've also raced a 6 speed eco and i took it pretty easily couldve also been the driver
I got a FBO with dyno shop tune ecoboost 2017. 385hp 440tq. I love this car. I’ve raced against a Tesla and a charger (V8) and beat them both. I raced a modded supra last weekend and beat it off the line but then got gapped once we hit about 70 km. I will get a GT in a couple years.
Got the MAP full exhaust, hks bov with MAP chargepipes and intercooler, and MAP cold air intake. Have them in my 2016 ecoboost for over a year now, lots of fun!
My 2017, 6 speed manual at almost 200k still running strong, I have cold air intake and a SCTx4 tuner but tuned for 87, I've mostly used regular, very seldom have I gone to 91 octane. Never had any major issues, AC had to be replace while under warranty long time ago. My only gripe is a noisy gears(learned to stop resting my hand on the shifter) and right rear brake caliper has been replaced twice for ceasing and the evap purge valve replaced. Otherwise, been a great ride, from Toronto driven year round ;).
The block splits at 450hp and people say stay at 400hp on stock internal to keep it safe. And I know when people build the motors they do the 2.0 not the 2.3 cuz the 2.3 likes to split
They are FOUR CYLINDER cars which means even they are turbo charged the engine won’t last. The heat destroys an engine and they run hot. There is no way that the car will last.
Wanna get an ecoboost mustang and make some big hp&tq numbers. But I’m not sure if I’m ready to own a mustang or if I should buy the ecoboost mustang crate engine and drop it in whatever car I want. Leaning towards the second option because mustangs are the big leagues to me.
Just as a comment when you said the ecoboost had lonch control how do you activate it I have a 2016 ecoboost mustang that I drag race and lonch control could help
Only way I know to get launch control is via a COBB AP, I'm not sure the 6R80 allows it, I know the 10R80 does as its the same transmission as in the GT500.
LMAO!!! The ecoboost was never even a thought in my mind or anyone I know... Coyote is king and with a stock motor and blower you can make easy 650whp.. the 2.3L is garbage I have a 2.7 in my wife's 2021 edge St that one is okay but 2.3 and 1.5 are junk
