great video Cory iv experienced the hardships of plainting in the past with Johnson grass being my number one enemy but some success on the other hand my young timber plots with popular trees are doing great with gum being the enemy a lot of hack and squirt in order to help the floor thanks Cory I love this stuff buddy !!!
In 2006 they redid 10 miles of the hyway I am on. I think my 500 feet of frontage is the only still in natural habitat. I'd swear I still see new things now and then. I started beekeeping in 2020. Wish I knew more before that. I'm planting pollinator tees since I don't have many acres to plant.
Hooray for habitat improvement Cory! I have planted over 500 pollinator plugs around my apiary and farmland. But I am hoping to seed some larger areas - including a wide border around a 50 acre hayfield. I have been admiring The Bee & Bird Habitat Fund for several years now. I have heard that they eventually hope to spread to other states. Any idea when they might they allow Massachusetts farmers to participate in the Seed A Legacy program? In the meantime, are they able to provide technical assistance?
If you have to work the ground before planting its best to work the ground and give time for weeds to start growing then hit it with an herbicide. Glyphosate. You can plant your seed same day you spray for weeds or I like to wait until it is raining and I broadcast them in the rain so I know they get watered in. not always an option.
You are missing an important aspect to growing grasses, Forbes and flowers. Livestock integration. Adaptive grazing on native pasture. Check out Gabe Brown on multi species cover crops.
Our agroforestry system is on a steep hillside with no room for prairie wildflowers. BUT, I did just order 20 pounds of crocus bulbs upon watching this. Great video, Cory! Not to get preachy but (I'm gonna get preachy): This work is a prime example of what we can do on an individual basis to save the biosphere and bolster community resilience. To those of us screaming about habitat loss and climate change, it's time to get to work in own backyards! Elon Musk, Bezos and Xi Jinping aint gonna fix it.
