I had this done via Chiang Mai Ram Hospital Center; at Chiang Mai University in Thailand last February 2023. By PSA was 10.1 and I’m sixty. Taking Avodart once a day. I’ll reschedule another PSA test and/or MRI in August. Wish me luck. 🙏🏼🇹🇭

My PAS was 8.9 when I was 69 years old. I had a pain free biopsy and my test results came back negative. Now I’m 70 years old and my PSA drop down to 5.0

Had my prostate gland removed 4/8/2020 and believe me I’m going threw some ‘rough’ times! The soreness from the robotic surgery and gas cramping and that catheter alone makes me wish I’ve done nothing but keep an eye on it. A week later, up and down with tiredness, extreme dry mouth, soreness from the tube below, etc. but better. Everyone is different and make sure you don’t rush into it unless you haven’t a choice. I’m 70 , in good shape and never had a sign anything was wrong. Seldom got out of bed to go to the bathroom. Well, I guess you can’t stop what’s coming! 😷

I was told that I would hardly feel anything during the biopsy. It turned out to be the most excruciatingly painful, traumatic experience of my life - like being cut up while fully conscious. Do your research and insist on being fully informed! Take control!

It is easy money for the urologist. If your PSA goes from 4.5 to 6, that is a red flag and means biopsy. My PSA has been all over the map for the last 20 years and if I had ceded to the Doctors wishes I would have endured at least 4-5 biopsies. I should be dead by now but I am not and you have to drag me screaming into the Urologists office. All they see is a cash register. And yes it is painful despite what the doctor will tell you, and they all say the same BS.

@@williamdenton6317 My Urologist wanted to do a biopsy even tho the MRI showed nothing.... Passed on that... PSA is meaningless they use it to detect possible cancer BUT it was NEVER designed for that purpose... actually for a while DRs were told to stop using it for that purpose due to the high rate of needless biopsys... My PSA was 7 and I had no cancer, guy I work with had a PSA of 2 and had cancer.. The size of your prostate will elevate your PSA...

My PSA has been all over the place,even in the 20’s.Been going to a eulogist for about 12 years.Never felt anything in the Dre exams.All this time and I’ve had just one biopsy that came back negative.Eulogist says my prostate is very large but it hasn’t caused any problems for me.Now I just go when my PSA test makes a significant jump.

I have had a PSA over 4 since I was 50. Right now it is at 8 but has been as high as 11. I am now 71 so I should be dead by now. Two biopsies showed "prostatitis" or inflammation of the prostate. Note, not a slow growing cancer, but prostatitis, as in gastritis, bursitis. Inflammed tissue not cancerous tissue. If you do a PSA for crying out loud, request a Free to Total PSA test as well. The two together give you a much better picture. As for the biopsy, it is not random. The doctor uses a carefully mapped ultra sound image that divides the target into 12 even sized areas. In addition, the needle is guided by the same ultra sound.device. The doctor is not just jabbing here and there at will.

They can't realy see the different between cancer and healthy tissue. Ultra sound can only guide them to the prostate and where to take the biopsy. Inside the prostate or the outside parts of the prostate.

William Denton where the needle lands is still random sir. Cancers will not neatly line up your grid, at conveniently consistent depths.

I have 9. Biopsy (34) and elastometric TRUSR have shown dysplasia 1. No problems in my life at all. 48 y.o. BTW PSA can differ a lot in different clinics. My blood test shown 4.3, 7.51 & 9.05 in 3 different clinics once. Omnik doesn't help for reducing this test number. Well, living as usual. It is interesting, how high PSA may be with dysplosia?

My first test its 44 Second test 41 Had mri n bone scan n uroscopy n waiting for biopsy next. No other choice please !!!!!!! Then the grade of any cancer cell will be revealed n if none, then it’s BHP n treatment🤛🏽

My PSA 71….and the Nashville VA hasn’t had the 1st MRI done yet….they just want to take 12 plugs out if my prostate without knowing what’s there, where to look and even if that was a good option….I’m insisting on a MRI….

Ok, but a biopsy might have saved my life. Gleason 4+3 and 4+4 and undergoing radiation therapy. Between the inconvenience of a biopsy and life, I choose the latter.

I had 3 years ago 4.25 PSA i am 45 years old man now . I had twice MRI parametric and did not show any cancer however showed enlargement . The PSA now get up to 6 . I have the same symptoms like going often to pass urine ( some times weak but easy to pass ) no sexual problems generally and no pain or blood . They want to make Biopsy and target some places the doctored asked for. He said i must be not worry bcz the MRI was good and nothing like cancer there or around in the pelvic but the PSA is what confusing the doctors as is getting up . I really don't want the biopsy if there anyway to prevent it ? This is my case pls any advice ?

Enlarged prostate will make PSA high. So will prostatitis. Good you had MRI. Glad you are clear 👌

@JG Lee Telling someone to lower their PSA number below 4 is so wrong. There is NO validity in a PSA number. If you read the transcript of the company that came up with it and pushed it on the FDA you will see that the number 4 was pulled out of the air and is backed up by nothing. That's why the PSA test is 80% inaccurate. This is all explained in the brochure that is required to be given to you before you have a PSA test but no doctor will give you this brochure. A friend of mine had prostate cancer with a PSA of 1. He did have symptoms which led him to be checked out. To tell someone that if they lower their PSA to below this meaningless number of 4 and everything will be fine is totally wrong and irresponsible. Read the book, "The Great Prostate Hoax", written by the man who found this prostate antigen.

What about patients with cardiac pacemakers or other metal devices in their body? I believe that MRI’s are contraindicated for those patients.

I have metal parts in my body, recently had MRI for something else and all ok. Best to check with your doctor to make sure metal parts are MRI friendly. Pacemakers i believe should not enter the MRI

Woud you believe it, but every single family doctor I have had did not know what this was and I had to explain it to them and why it should always be taken with the PSA. It makes me think that there is a conspiracy there between the family doctors and the urologists because the biopsy is easy money for the urologist. Is there some kind of kick back scheme we do not know about? You as a patient are financing the doctors second home in Malibu. Keep that in mind.

My man. With a PSA of 28.6 my next question would be, can the Dr. feel any bumps or lesions on your prostate upon DRE. Digital exam. If he feels something irregular on your prostate, it would be smart to biopsy the gland. There is a new MRI machine out that can eliminate the need for the needle biopsy. But you will have to find a Dr. who is progressive and willing to use it. I had prostate cancer and I had the biopsy two times. I wish they had the MRI in 2009 when I was treated. THIS MRI IS BRAND NEW. Good luck

If you can aford you can try Hifu high intensity focused ultra sound this is new way of treating prostate cancer without removing it and it has no side effects

Eddie Boterf I did it on 4/8/2020 and now I’m in rough shape. 70 years old but in very good shape and never had surgery before. Keep an eye on it. I had cancer on the outer part of the prostate and no tumor. You could go with radiation treatment 5 days a week, half hour per day for 9 weeks? No way I would go with that. I’d never see 71 !👽

The MRI does not replace a biopsy. As long as your PSA stays high or grows you will still need a biopsy.

My advice is do not get a biopsy unless you are also willing to have your prostate removed should the results be positive for cancer. A biopsy can damage your prostate or cause a life threatening infection. Do not listen to those that say a biopsy is a benign procedure.

No you don't 'take it as a given' for that magic number 4. This number was arbitrarily made up. There's no scientific reason to say that above 4 is a bad number. That aside, the information looks like good advice :)
