I’m still wary about them sitting on the ball, but perhaps having the players take a knee instead will suffice. I will try both.

Wow these tips are INCREDIBLY helpful. Thank you. This is my first season ever coaching and the kids are 12U. It’s been so hard to keep their concentration and focus intact and this is the first video I’ve seen with actually unique tips to put into play.

Love the tip about the coach’s board, if the kids can see your expectations they will be more likely to strive to meet them.

Most of these I agree with but not sitting on the ball. I've seen several balls eventually burst and therefore paid to replace them. Also, just because they're sat down doesn't mean they're concentrating as they could be ripping grass or looking at something else going on. Also, just before kids run around I don't think it's a good idea to be sat down. IMHO.

Just put 3 of my kids in soccer One is a pen pal with a pre pro soccer athlete I got a call the 10year olds need a coach So I’m willing but I played hockey my whole life I want to do it to not let any kids down But I don’t want to fail them either so I’m learning and going to a meeting Monday I’m happy I have the time I do to be available But I really want to do a great job since people pay money n want the best for their kids Thanks for the video

Hockey can be a great baseline for soccer! Similar movement (obviously smaller space and different body parts). Fun fact, some of the NHL teams warm up by juggling a soccer ball.

I'm about to coach a group of elementary school kids in an afterschool session, likely 5 days a week. Do you have any tips engagement-wise to connect with the kids and make the sessions interesting? I've only coached adults (16 y/o and up) who have a mindset of "I love football and want to become a pro one day", which is very different from "I love football and I want to have fun". How should I change the way I teach the kids so that they stay engaged and not stray into being too serious?

One of my favourite things to do with that age group is theme the session around a topic they might like. Fortnite, Mario kart, Fall Guys, Toy story, etc Find some themes you like and then pitch the session as a mission, level or objective within that theme. For example we do a Mario kart game where kids have to “drive” with their ball through obstacles, dribbling to avoid bananas, coaches rolling balls at them as Mario Shells etc. get creative and come up with some ideas that fit a child friendly theme
