was this new distinction between social communication disorder and autism made in 2013? it really sucks beacuse scd is less recognized and therefore seems would be harder for those with it to get proper supports

I am 28 yrs old and i think i have SCD. Sad to say that no one knows this around me, specially in my family. I grow loner and all people knows me dnt like me because they see me so serious. the truth is i dont know how to communicate, Im not shy i just dont know how to react. My life goes Miserable, all people knows me are back stabbing me. But Jesus didn't leave me, Hes my savior:) I overcome all the pain I've experienced before but its easy. I always ask God what are the reason why all these thing happening to me, its more than physical abuse :( SCD Kids that have a good parents to guide them are so lucky, they will not experience SCD for a long term like me. I dont have heart feeling to my past, i accepted what happen to me and it made me strong :). Now i am ready to do the mission that Gods want me do. I had lots of up and down in life but it made me a strong. Now im pursuing my dream as Entrepreneur :) I have confidence and if iwill overcome this SDC I will unstoppable:) SDC makes me too a late bloomer but its ok, its better to be late than never :) Thanks for this video, it's help alot. God bless

Intetesting to hear yhat others have same communication difficulties I have always had. But can't do anything about it due low $ resources. Don't really understand how a psychologist could help me learn how to converse anyways.

I have SCPD and Intellectual disability. I am extroverted and people don't like me and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know and it feels good to have a name with it. Btw I can't read people, socially blind.

My 7 year old is diagnosed with pragmatic communication disorder. He was non verbal for a long time and teachers all assumed he was autistic but he didn’t display the repetition behaviors or sensory issues. He has started mimicking as young kids do when just learning to talk and will now take your hand to show you what he wants and point, he will say stop when he doesn’t like something you’re doing, he will say I love you, hug when he wants a hug, tickle when he wants tickled. It’s been an rxtrely long road and we are still marching on but we work hard with him everyday and it’s paying off.

I got the SPCD diagnosis in 2014. I always felt that it was a wrong diagnosis. I currently have and always have had restricted interests and sensory issues. I used to have restricted routines when I was a kid. Any clarification would be helpful.

Yes, I believe it is possible . Many individuals are diagnosed as teens or adults when they are able to self report experiencing difficulties in the diagnosis areas, specifically in the area of social communication. Also, even if is younger the expectations of what is considered “typically developing” for a very young child changes as they get older. The development of play and social language is very complex. For example, a 2-3 year still only playing in parallel play would not raise as much concern as a 5 year old doing this. This is just one fairly common example! So to answer your question: yes, it is possible but each child is unique and different and I can’t give you more specific answers since I am not the evaluator or therapist involved in your sons case! Best of luck! Hope this helps!

I had to get my 504 plan reset for another year due to it running out of date and when It was in my possession I decided to refresh my memory as to what is in it and basically discovered that I have social (pragmatic) communication disorder along with ADHD but I already heard and remembered the ADHD part out the first one was a new one for me bc I just forgot they had a name for what I got 😂 anyways I can say with 100% certainty that when they say people with this disorder have trouble with emotion and relationships and how to have a back and forth conversation I completely agree... I have had little to no emotions for almost 2 years and apart from very simple relationships with people from school I have no relationships and see no reason for them u less the offer something tangible... people say I seem happy and social but that after talking with me a little they realized I am a very sad and lonely individual and as that is true in some capacity I do not think it is as severe as what a “normal” person feels due to my dulled sense of emotion... it’s a double edged sword I guess 😂... if you have read this far then you deserve a Cookie becases not even I decided to read through this whole thing to spell check it 😂 bye bye have a good day

Could social communication disorder be described as autism but just the social aspects? Since my diagnosis with SCD I’ve spent a lot of time in autism groups and have profoundly related and ‘fit in’ in ways I never have before…it feels like people with autism are just like me. I have extremely mild repetitive behaviors that don’t cause any deficit in my life unlike my social skills. Somehow the different diagnosis stresses me out. Like I guess diagnostically I’m not like the people I relate to so much?
@TheGiftofGabSpeechTherapy
@TheGiftofGabSpeechTherapy 2 года назад
Yes, I think it could be described that way. If that is what it feels like to you, and that is how you can find words to describe what you are experiencing, then I don't think there is anything wrong with that! And I am so happy you have found groups where you feel like you fit in and feel accepted! That is what is most important! Thank you for reaching out!

I'm viewing this video because I suspect I have a language disorder. I often have trouble finding words quickly and constructing words into coherent sentences. I don't suspect autism because I neither seem to have sensory nor repetitive behaviors. I can also relate to other people and understand jokes and sarcasm fine. It's true that every person with autism has different symptoms, but I don't relate to the symptoms, which is reassuring.
@callme_xe
@callme_xe 2 года назад
Reassuring... It's not a desease. I believe I'm autistic and I have been told I have a higher QI by the age of 7. I can understand sarcasm and gestures very well. It's not the same for everybody. You can be low functioning or high functioning. I'm high functioning, so my biggest struggle are the social situations. I don't have troubles finding a partner though, and the biggest struggle with friendship is maintaining them. I'm also better at writing communication than face to face, because social anxiety tends to take me. But if I'm comfortable with the person I am with I'm pretty cool. Just don't believe autism is just low functioning one, or a DESEASE. It's not. We are just neurodiverse. It's fine.

That is helpful. I do apparently have specific language impairment (SLI). I was diagnosed with a language-related learning disorder as a kid in the 1980s. And I've long had some issues along the lines described as social communication disorder. But I don't have many of the stereotypical sensitivities and repetitive behaviors of autism.

I took him to get tested w a psychologist when I was told that he was autistic,but I wanted to take a second opinion and I m glad that I did,the neurologist told me totally different diagnosis.

I always thought/felt that my son had autism.. since very early on, but after several years later and seeing lots of different professionals, he was given the SPCD diagnosis.. My question is can autism be diagnosed when he's older, because for me, I still think he is autistic.... Thanks.x

The key is on the repetitive movement, empathy and reaction to change in routines when we talk about autism..My son also has SPCD and has a lot of sensory issues..But he shows empathy and more flexible when it comes to changing the routines..The symptoms of autism and SCPD may be overlapping..But the empathy and the rigidness of a person differentiate it from each other..

Hi! Thanks for reaching out! A lot of factors go into learning language such as age, exposure to words, and even personality! If your family has concerns I would recommend talking to the doctor and looking into having his language skills evaluated by a Speech-Language Pathologist so s/he can give you more specific information!

Adults have this and have gone undiagnosed for over 40 plus years and have suffered all their lives due to lack of the research that was not done to learn more about these individuals Im 51 and just have learned I have this SPCD. Why isn’t Pragmatic being used in this Diagnosis’s ? but do I actually have Autism and SCD? I’ve read that people can have both… I have all these issues that are in A and B. I’ve had all these deficits during my childhood when I was a teen and child..

What about sensory issues? Say you have sensory issues, social communication issues, trouble recognizing and understanding emotions, restrictive interests, tendency to ruminate a lot, lots of trouble with transitions, trouble making decisions, trouble with your routine being interrupted, but generally no repetitive behaviors? Would that be SCD or ASD? What about the differences of males and females.

My 4 yo son just get scd diagnose. We spent 2.5 hours with the dr. Actually she is still confuse because my son show some very good social skill, but lack in other. He also sometimes flapping his hand and swing both his hand like a wiper almost everyday. I asked her why my son is consider not autism, she said because he still share his toys without being angry and can play role (i said my son always playing like he is a fireman or policeman and caught the thief, i mean he understand what he doing), can sing almost all cocomelon show 😄. Also he is lining almost all of his toys. I mean my son has lot of sign of autism. What do yo think? (Please forgive my broken english, english is not our 1st/2nd languange)
