Social media also needs to have people ages next to their name so you know your not talking to kids (which soooo many are). Immature, lack of education and resect, not afraid of consequences. Companies allowing people to make money being spiteful will only push it more.
It has become unbearable and toxic to a point where the best you can do is just stay away from those channels/platforms/people ... I'm still convinced though that the mob on social media only represents a minority of football fans - the problem is that it's a very loud minority ... I personally have stayed away from Twitter for a while now and I also blocked rival fan channels here on RU-vid - I want to focus on content that's made by non-hysterical, balanced Arsenal fans like you, Charles Watts or The Different Knock
Click rate just turned it so negative. When we used to see finals it would be wow what a cup run for X they should be really proud. Now teams knocked out in group stages say the finalists bottled it. Really frustrating to see
This is why I don’t have twitter and don’t read insta comments or even some RU-vid comments cause idk if it’s kids commenting, people with agendas or people who basically don’t watch football
Yup, I came off of social media for a while in the lead up to my wedding earlier this year as I felt it was having a negative effect on my mental health. Safe to say, after three months of no social media at all other than RU-vid videos, I was happier, less stressed and was enjoying watching football so much more. Social media is ruining people’s lives, let alone football
Same. I was only really on Facebook but one day I couldn’t get into my account, bothered me for a little while but soon enough it was a blessing. That said if I’m feeling like talking smack with strangers I’ll hop into the YT comments 😂
@@sargonsblackgrandfather2072 I dread to think what your life comprised of before the internet...In fact it's actually disturbing just thinking about ir.
Context is hes played every game for his club and cou try for the last 3 years barely missing a game and consistently performing. Harry kane has been crap, belli gham foden trent walker have all been crap but you dont call them out because they dont play for arsenal. He aint overhyped because if you want to talk about overyhyped bellingham is the most overhyped by english fans and media and they refuse to give him criticism because he scored 20 goals for madrid. Ask madrid fans if they rate him they would say hes a good player but ghosts alot of games. @@JohnEllis-le9ym
@@3bladeninja21 Lol, so just because some 2 bob crank like yourself thinks Foden was "comfortably the worst attacker yesterday" it must be true? Stick to playing FIFA boy
It's always been a thing but definitely it's more tribal than it's ever been due to social media stirring up more active discussions and debates about it. The idea that some England fans actually want to see them fail because they didn't chose X player from their club over a rival is just crazy to imagine but it's the reality right now.
James, don't be naive. Joe Gomez just played half a season for Liverpool at Left back. England didn't need to play Trippier or Saka at LB. You wouldn't ask Vinicius Jr to play at LB or Harry Kane at CB. Whatever you say Saka puts up with crap no one else faces. He should do a Ben White and call it a day. Incidentally AFTV has been guilty of encouraging some very negative comments about the club, its ownership and some of its players.
Saka should never be playing left back. We can't call him one the world's best right wingers and then play him left back on the world stage. I just found the idea of playing Saka at left back a tad bit disrespectful. Joe Gomez would fit perfectly fine at left back. Southgate is just stuck in his ways.
@@cazzanchristian9715 its about the tactical setup though why saka was put on the left. the squad is extremely inbalanced, foden kane saka jude all want to go into the space between the 10 and the striker. this makes defending them extremely easy, also because the width on the left is not kept at all. putting saka at leftback means youre gonna have overlaps and keep that width on the left, meaning there is a lot more space to defend. but saka there isnt the solution, the solution would be to start with dropping jude back a line, getting him in the pivot with rice. then foden in the middle and a leftwinger who likes to keep more to the touchline, the role martinelli fills at arsenal. but imo this problem england faces is the same argentina faced with di maria, dybala, messi and the same my country the netherlands are facing with depay simons and reijnders.
I do hear that too but joe Gomez ain’t got a ping (attacking fwrd pass) like saka - that said I understand fans not liking saka playing fullback but at the top levels versatility is necessary and I don’t think you can even compare the like of vini to saka he’s the Kane of Brazil and he’s obvs earned that status though he can be p dropped and even more accomplished player than Kane/ saka ( Havertz for example) can and been dropped back to LB before and score from there this year whilst on intl duty you just stop up and help the team let his performances speaks for him not doubt or entitlement from Arsenal fans let’s let them man cool this is obvs SG’s last tourney and the like of tyrick Mitchell and Ben white will be easily called up and played the right way
rice is in the midfield with gallagher and trent lol only looked somewhat okay when mainoo is der. saka is dealing with only walker on the right who is dropping absolute stinkers he’s actually trash out of the man city system only thing he has is recovery pace
@@cerb12 Walker's been dreadful, particularly yesterday. Really wish Southgate would just bin him off & play Trent, he'd be no worse defensively at this point & far better in attack.
@Amberle73 Instead of posting your worthless opinion on online, why don't you just write to Gareth Southgate directly instead as i'm sure he'd love to know where you think he's going wrong? Also and just out of interest, how many national sides have you managed to a World Cup SF and a Euro Final?. Roughly...
don’t get me wrong I don’t mind the trolling and stuff people do on X, I’ll admit I’m one of them, as long as it is light hearted, but seeing how all national TV pundits are picking up misinformation from X is jarring and is not good for the sport and players mental health in general. Jude was right when he called out haters yesterday in his presser
Oh shut up there a clear difference between light heart banter vs just waiting / pre planning bait to chat shit on a team(country) you claim to support and back

It's funny cause i don't even want saka to play anymore cause those cheeksi lot will just blame him for everything. palmer barely affecting the game against tired legs but they'll pretend he did something saka didn't. let Palmer start, he will be wildly ineffective and get the blame for England going out. I'm here for it.
Unlike yourself i'm actually English and don't want Saka to play for my country, not because i'm a plastic Arsenal fan but because he's been absolute dogshit. But of course if you want to defend a player who hasn't managed a single effort on target in his last 5 games.... Then i'm here for it.
Football has become controlled by narratives, if the media can build a perception that Saliba is a dirty player (obviously hypothetical), this will feed to fans who strengthen this, then to refs who will give fouls for nothing and it’s snowballs. Social media and pundits have such a grip on player perception, it’s getting to the point of no return, negativity has always sold and got more views than praise, Sky knows this, TNT, BBC, ITV etc all do it.
deleted twitter last year and have been much better since, the saka-foden-palmer debate is infuriating to me and i can't imagine having to listen to that EVERY single day online, everything needs to be a debate now on there
Seeing even Arsenal "fans" on twitter trying to turn on Ian Wright was crazy to see. Wright has stuck by Arsenal through their dark times and merely making a suggestion about what England can do to possibly improve their squad at the Euros doesn't warrant the reaction he received.
Yep, and he didn’t even get the benefit of the doubt. It wasn’t a howler, but even if it were, you’d think people would go ‘Wrighty’s had a shocker here but it’s fine’ - but nah, they couldn’t
It's not social media. It's always been like this... Especially for Black players. It's just easier for folk to get away with this BS with social media
imo social media is already to far gone. got off most toxic platforms, sadly that includes some parts of aftv aswell. mostly pages like 433, fabrizio, etcetc i rly had to leave. now im not getting much of the idiocy around and it has rly helped me to enjoy the internet more
The problem is the tribalism it's like having blind love , personally I thought saka was great at lb and rwb but that shoes how good he is, gave the team balance this is a major tournament I'd rather see him lift the trophy being important to the team then scapegoated because of a poor system. Cole palmer , Phil foden , bellingham all looked poor yesterday this poor form is longer on the players it's fully on the manager and the system.
The problem is the tribalism??? Absolute nonsense. 90% of online Arsenal fans have absolutely no idea where Islington or even London actually is without Googling it and if you thinking "Saka was great at lb and rwb" against a piss poor Slovakian side just highlights how bias and deluded you are. You'll be telling us "it's fully on the manager and the system" for why Saka hasn't managed a single effort on target in his last 4 games next...
@@JohnEllis-le9ymif its not tribalism why are all your comments only against arsenal players? Saka has been avg but so has kane, foden, jude, and the whole of that england team! But people like you exist and no one can do anything about it. Hypocrisy at its finest
@@Gabrielexpress6911 "But people like you exist and no one can do anything about it" How about you just ignore 'people like me' and just stick with Ningkhan Honest, Monzz Ent and Amaury Guichon? Good luck xx
Lad I just stay off it for the most part, just unfollowed a lot of those pages even like sportbible that encourage tribalism to the extent of no actual football talk or tactics. Kind of stems from pundits who aren't up to date with how the game is played and it ends up damaging players our players (and other clubs). Just know that all those players don't pay attention to what the media says for the most part bar press conferences.
I completely agree with your comments. I think Man City dominating domestically has helped to create a situation where the other big teams are left fighting for one-up man ship. However you’re failing to appreciate that your paymaster has been the catalyst of this type of social commentary. Everything on DR is now about teams being “in the mud” (for, like, a week) and teams “bottling it”. You regularly appear on the Monday round up where this happens the most. On a positive note, nice Chisel & Mouse Highbury bookend
Not English, but #SackSouthgate is riddiculious. France, Portugal doesn't play well this tournament. International football is different from clubs competitions and managers don't have enough time and players allways ready to build their system an tactics. Southgate is not great, but why fire up "Sack Southgate" in the middle of the tournament. Media, pundits and even fan channels made this era of unpatience. Same happens with players.
With the exception a few channels and accounts ( yours, gooner talk, the athletic and a few others) I've unplugged massively from social media and football RU-vid. There's very little nuanced discussion, it's either people trolling or begging it for clicks. And its worse with England because of the tribalism associated with players and who they play for domestically. Makes it less enjoyable if I'm honest.
Mate, you can't sit in a world of confirmation bias, people will disagree, I agree with you on a lot of things but the Saka thing I do not, you have to accept that. Other trolling fans I just move on from, be like Teflon.
As a gooner, what bothers me is this type of nonsense James. Saka had a poor season, and if Palmer was our player and Saka at Chelsea, we’d be completely perplexed. Saka was our best player for the 3 years previous and now looks completely burnt out. Grow up
Didn’t Southgate play Saka in that role before I can’t remember if it was RB or LB . I remember in the next game Saka proved a point and proved his worth on the wing .
Fun, I am an Arsenal fan from Sweden and outside this '' pride ''. I told my dad that I was proud over Saka tho that he played right wing, then left wing, and then left back, all in one game depending on what England needed. How many players can to that at top level? What's to bully there?
Real genuine football discourse is in the gutter. There’s definitely a place for football banter and laughing at other teams, but there’s far too much of it now to the point where there is no actual football discussion.
International really puts things in perspective. As someone on the out looking in, Englands left side is the problem and it has been since the start of the tournament. The amount of out and out blatant racism on RU-vid comments, Twitter, etc towards him is still so damn shocking but not surprising considering the UKs current politics..
In the vid I addressed my own channel as an example of me monetising social media. So I recognise I’m a beneficiary of social media in this space. It CAN be a powerful platform that enriches the game but with X in particular it’s ruining it for me
@@TheGoonerversealso ppl are attacking Southgate but he always been this way, he probably stayed longer than he should have but that's not his fault. Whether England win or lose, he likely leave anyway after the euros, so might as well support the team, as bad as it is. However, social media needs something to talk about so they talk about it over and over. Is that really helpful
I think top footballers and even those not at the top should steer well clear of social media for their own sanity and peace of mind. Not just footballers... Social media gives a voice to literally everyone and that includes some very, very unpleasant people who just love to attack, say insane stuff and attempt to destroy other people, not only in the football world. I've never had a Twitter account for this reason. I saw it as a place for people to hurl shit at each other. All players should, for their own good stay off social media. It's just a cesspit. Well said, James.
People are heavily bias these days. As a life long Arsenal fan. I have to say palmer is better than Saka. He needs to either play left back like he did for Arsenal at first and be humble enough to do it for the team and if he doesn’t like it. Send him home. Simple. He can’t even beat his man. One trick pony. At Arsenal we need an upgrade too.
Thank you for this James. Finally someone is having this conversation. People are using social media as an outlet to spread hate because they are unhappy in real life and it sucks .
Trent is great with both feet. He’s the best option for left and right back. Even if England win the cup, Ben White was right to stay home. Saka, Rice, let this be your last England tournament. English fans/media have their favorites and will never criticize those players. Kane, Walker,Foden, can stink up the place and never get criticized to same degree. Kane is a great player but he’s untouchable. Walker overrated. Good player not great.
Ben White was right to let his country, the fans and most importantly his team mates down and stay at home after crying and leaving a WC tournament midway through. Saka, Rice, let this be your last England tournament because i subscribe to Gajan Balan, Xing Liu and Steven Ndukwu so know more about football than Southgate will ever know. *Posted on a thread about how social media is ruining football....Priceless xx
Bottom line everyone has a opinion if you dont like the opinion dont throw a tantrum and abuse that person. Football is dying before our eyes and social media is a big factor to why football is like this.
i agree that social media conversation is not worth giving attention to but i don't think the platforms need to protect people. people should learn when to take social media seriously and when not to. and also learn not to get triggered by it
The issue is a lot of those on social media aren’t England supporters, they don’t care about how it effects the team chemistry or what not most of them just push the club they supports agendas and put stuff out there to interaction farm
@snipedotgenius I didn't ask what you thought of my question that you clearly haven't got the intelligence or the balls to answer. I asked you what's your excuse for why Arsenal never won a major trophy before social media?
A fan commented that Rice has been terrible and shouldn't be starting, I asked what would be a more stable midfield and he responded Tommy Doyle and Mainoo. We're lost.
When said this about Granit Xhaka at Arsenal, i was told that i was mad. This was when Granit made himself unavailable for selection after the fallout with the crowd. I said that the fans were basically selecting the arsenal teams and i was told that i was mad. You heard about Saka playing left back from Ian Write then booomm Saka is at Left back
Peter Schmeichel is pretty thick if he thought Palmer was good yesterday or improved England. Palmer has been dog shit this tournament in both appearances, all he's done is what Saka's done to a much worse level. If Schmeichel can't see that Foden's the issue in this England side he needs to wake up.
Social media is driven by negativity. Being contentious and extreme gets attention and clicks. Talksport and Goldbridge are the perfect examples. The emotional reactions does not match the reality of the situation. But it makes you money.
I want every England player to do well but I don't want people to use their player doing well as a stick to beat another England player around the head. Footballers are human beings and since February all I've heard is abuse towards Saka because Foden's doing well, same with Palmer. Very few Arsenal fans who are supposed to be the most insufferable fanbase actually use their players to bash rivals players but it feels like nearly every Chelsea and City fans bash Saka with Foden and Palmer.
Says dry lunch who beats 18 trophies winner Foden every day like clockwork which for someone who's Dutch just highlights unnecessary hatred towards someone
@@PaulClarke-dv5sr When have I ever hated on Phil Foden? I've criticized him and called out poor performances but never hate on him and I've never used Saka's performances to beat Foden around the head with. I've criticized him, which is the difference. I've said he's a quality world class player but I think some people think he's perfect and has zero flaws.
@Ghfjgjggj123shdhfnfmdk Save you're excuses as you've hated on foden every day for the last 5/6 weeks and you can say it's "criticizing and calling him out" as much as you like but doing it every day is nothing but hate. The question is why as a Dutchman would u single out an English man who's clearly far more successful than Saka anyway?
As a Dutchman I want every England player to do well but I don't want people to use their player doing well as a stick to beat another England player around the head, especially with players like Phil Foden who people quickly forget won more trophies in 18 months than Arsenal have in the last 25 years...
great video as always james. it’s sad how petty some fans of every team are now. it’s hard to have genuine conversations/discussions when trolls are so focused on engagement/reactions/agendas
The irony of your crying about social media ruining football then blocking people and deleting their comments because you can't handle a few home truths to the reason why.....
Absolutely. He’s a terrible example of it. I’m a gooner, and there is no justifying him starting Saka over Cole Palmer based on the past 12 months. If Palmer was our player I’d be baffled. By the same token, Rice was our best player this year, and anyone who thinks he shouldn’t start is moronic
@@PaulClarke-dv5sr where did I suggest he was Englands best player? I’m saying based on form he should be starting for England and Saka shouldn’t Odegaard is Norwegian, what has he got to do with this conversation? Were you dropped on your head pal…
Saka was so poor at LB I wonder if Arteta is overcoaching players to be more safe and not lose that ball. We saw Mbappe vs Austria end up on the RW and still be able to beat a man to create the own goal.
Saka hasn't played LB for 3 years and even when he did almost always played as a wingback & you're wondering why he looked a bit lost? Seriously!? Mbappe would probably leave the pitch in a sulk if you asked him to play in defence.
