This week, Siobhan and the team are joined by a fantastic panel who bring us their perspectives on working in mental health settings. The webinar is made up of discussions around the role of mental health social workers, Best Interest Assessors (BIA) and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).
Our guest speakers are:
Helen Sheppard - has been practising as a social worker since 2003 and has been an AMHP. Mainly working within mental health, Helen previously worked for a Local Authority and currently works for an NHS Trust, supporting Think Ahead trainee social workers as a Practice Educator.
Megan Barnes - qualified as a social worker in 2021 and is currently working within an inpatient mental health hospital. Megan's passions lie within mental health and she completed her 100 day placement within a forensic inpatient mental health hospital in 2020.
Soyeb Aswat - has worked in the health and social care sector for approx. 25 years and is a Social Worker, BIA and AMHP. He has previously worked within both the Voluntary and Public Sector, having worked with Young Carers, Fostering, Leaving Care and primarily in mental health. His area of expertise is mental health and working with cases where there are issues around culture/religion.
Tony Deane - is a social worker, AMHP and BIA. He has acted as an external advisor/expert to the CQC and to the Royal College of Psychiatry, and has provided training and presentations at a number of qualifying courses, CPD events and conferences.

Hi, I’m writing my dissertation on the “revolving door” of mental health and found Helen’s stats at the beginning really interesting. Do you know where Helen found the info? x

all dangerous people are mentally ill but not all mentally ill people are dangerous. That is the important issue that I had with the first panelist's explanations.
