Lol. I swear you eye rolled at “what do we do to make sure our kids are socialized”. Lol. And if so, I agree so much. My kids are often more polite and able to socialize than their public school peers are. 🤷♀️
Oh my. I didn’t mean to if I did. That was involuntary 🫤 However: I agree with you 100%. I’m leaving the High School right now after subbing for the day and these kids lack social skills on a grand level. 🙁

My little dude is only 4yo, and I remember everything falling into place when he was only a baby about how we should 'let him cry,' comments from my in laws, who then started to say how he doesn't tantrum, or he's so polite -- like which is it? How do you think that came to happen? 😆 He's not demanding, because he hasn't had to be. He communicates, because he's been given the freedom to. And I take that perspective as we prepare for the antagonistic onslaught when we broadcast that we will be home educating.
Thank you so much for this. As the mother of a 17yr old public HS Senior, you couldn't be more accurate about the ways in which many public school kids socialize being not what we think it is. For instance, our daughter has terrible self esteem even though we have always gone above and beyond building her up in anyway we can. It's extremely disheartening to see your child succumb to the negative, unnecessary, "social" pressures public schools offer. For many years I have felt that public school has undermined my husband and I which has been a complete disservice to our child's mental well-being. Books are uncool to mamy public school kids. All that matters their social media gods and other nonsense. Many can barely write in manuscript and dont know cursive at all. If I could go back in time I would have 100% homeschooled her.
I feel like there is a difference in socialization and friendship. Socialization is ridiculously easy to get but friendship is more tricky. This is year 3 of homeschooling for us and i just finally feel we are finding friendships but it has taken trial and error to find our people. If you are struggling keep searching out groups and if all else fails start your own group. I guarantee there are others in your community that are seeking what you are seeking.
Your experience with having an introverted kid really hit home with me. My kid is 11 and up until now I have been trying to push him into activities, homeschool field trips etc to have him interact more with his age group. Every time, he sticks by my side and just doesn’t want to engage. He just isn’t interested in big group activities. When he is with one or two of his close friends, he doesn’t have any problem interacting. I really need to realize that he is just like myself and his father. We are both introverts as well and that’s ok. I guess I worry that because I am an introvert, maybe I naturally restrict his social options and then try to overcompensate. If that makes sense. I need to just let him be himself. Anyway, thanks for giving me something to think about.
I love all your shorts!!! We are in 4-H GirlScouts and Play group!! I feel like my kids are social! We get more criticism from the homeschoolers in our area because we are Christian, but we are secular homeschoolers
@@HomeschoolHappyHour yes I wish we could all just support each other too because I live in a very small town of like 2000 people in my church alone. There are three Homeschool families the other two are doing classical conversations and they kind of act like snobs anytime I mention us going on hanging out and letting our kids play
Maybe try start ur own Co ups together with other moms who have the same beliefs you do). Man the socialization thing was crazy). I was barely allowed to socialize with peers in public school ). Special Ed stunk ). No I am not crazy one of going to the homeschooling bandwagon when I have kids of my own). Within 4-5 months I fond friends from county homeschooling group I was part of. Geography bee, spelling bee, 4H One year YMCA swimming lessons, swing dancing, comuste party, teen homeschooling group, square dancing, felid trips, special Olympics, art class gym class, youth retreats, Apple picking, peach picking, georcy store, played with neighborhood kids as well they were homeschooled as well. Horse back riding, church youth group, Sunday School, going to the mall, going to camp, I did see a Secular homeschooling mom with her daughters I did suggest she should start her own homeschooling group she did eventually start one up! I was doing early morning walks with my first dog 🐕 or early afternoon walks. Gone to BBQS. Just had issues with cliquces with adults not my peers very instretting in public school peers & adults were cliquish. My deceased grandmother didn't think I was socialized when I was not in public school anymore ). I have trust issues cause of cliquices & had unknowling child abuse done in the school system years ago. CPTSD. Anxiety disorder, bipolar dyslexia I ll keep an eye on signs for dyslexia when I have kids of my own I don't want my feature kids go through what I went through years ago. My boyfriend months made the decision to not put our feature kids in public school. With the bullying I keep hearing & cyber bullying, no thank you. I ll know how to solaize my feature kids.

I am grateful to you and the rest of the parents that took the time to share 😊 Edit to add: I appreciate the comments about realizing if your child is introverted/extroverted... I've never even given that any thought.
