this is a really interesting video!! i had a similar phase in uni where i "converted" to shia islam because it had the spiritualism i felt missing in my practice of sunni islam but due to some disagreements with shia fiqh, i decided id change my practice of sunni islam instead
I follow sunni mahdhabs by default because I've been socialised/married into sunni communities. However I wish there was no such divisions. It's very tiring

As a muslim, I don’t think you can be happy with someone believing in wrong/false religion. Yes, to him his religion and to me mine, he is free to believe what he wants, but I can’t be happy with it, because that would mean I’m happy with shirk, false Gods, etc. And Allah ﷻ knows best.

I am a Syed. My family has been following Shiaism for generations. Then my great-grandfather left Shiaism and decided to practice Sunnism. I have gone through life with a choice of Shiaism or Sunnism. My sister is more into Shiaism and I am more inclined to Sunnism. We both discussed the topic of what happened and why it happened in the past. Who was right and wrong. I listened to her whole opinion and found it all emotionally driven. I was also emotionally touched but that was not enough for me to pick Shiasm over Sunnism. My focus was on the fiqh rulings which I didn't discuss with her. Yes, I have a love for my elders, Ali RA, Fatima RA, Hassan RA, and Hussain RA but I would not like to build my faith on emotional attachment to a wrong done to someone. The concept of the importance of Ahlul bayt is there in my family and people give a lot of time to us if they know we are Syeds. But the concept of right and wrong is more important to me which I don't find appealing in Shiaism. In the end, be a Muslim rest is not important and Allah will not ask you about history. He will ask you about you.

The sunni's are basically the muslims, the fact that we put a label was actually because the shia did not follow the sunnah of the prophet but the sunnah of their imam. Furthermore when you look at the text you will find out that they mainly follow two of their twelve imam (for the twelvers) and that the asnad (narration chain) is always composed of one of four persons described as compulsive liars, manipulators. I hope you will let this comment in the section because it is important to let people know that it is not somehow a conflict between two groups, rather it is more a comprehension problematic. Calling them reverts is bit much, Sunni and Shia are both muslims, the disagreements between them are very minor, even if some would like to pretend they're not. Changing from Sunni to Shia and vice versa is not really a conversion or reversion, is just a change in understanding these minor issues.
Nope, the aqeedah of Ahlul Sunnah is different to Twerlver Shia Islam. These differences in aqeedah are stark, you could only downplay them out of ignorance or carelessness.
Yeah I wanted to focus on people who are Christian/agnostic and go directly into Shia Islam but then I found it interesting to add those who go from sunni to Shia however I'm not sure there's a term for describing it
@f1aziz I downplay them because I was raised as Shia and changed to "just muslim", their Aqeeda is not different they belive in Allah, his prophets, his books, his angels and the judgement day paradise and hell. These are the 5 tenants of Aqeeda every muslim believes in no matter what sect and shia and sunna believe in them. Now they believe in extra things like welaiat Ali or the Twelve Imams after him, Welaiat Ali both Sunni and Shia agree on but Shia add it as part of the shahada, the Twelve Imams however is where we disagree, Imams are all great muslim scholars and Sunni muslims believe them as part of the Salaf, where we differ is that Shia think they are chosen by allah to be Caliphates after Ali . And that's not really an important enough subject to make it like Shia is a different religion. Shia are muslim they agree with us on Aqeeda and the 5 pillars of Islam, everything after that is minor.
@f1aziz I don't believe the Twelve Imams as that's the most important to being considered "Shia" , I also don't agree completely with everything Sunni muslims believe, so I consider myself neither I'm just a muslim. And as far as I know the Prophet pbuh was neither.

the division inside Islam, like the division between religions, is part of our test on earth, in the end, one of these sects is generaly right in matters of creed (preservation of Islam is the preservation of scripture AND understanding), people can claim this makes sense and that doesn't, we will always remain creatures driven by desires (ahwaa'), we accept what we like amd reject what we don't like, whether this is apparent or subtle, and that gives us the capacity to rationalize anything (hence the kind of arguments we saw in this video), yes sometimes it's lack of/mis-information, uninteligence/bad reasoning, and other cognitive flaws, which are hopefully pardonned by Allah, but it's rarely not mixed with psychological biases, Islam's creed is innate and obvious, it's hard-wired in our brains, this is why the Quran cares more about addressing our psyche than our intellect, and how much you fight your whims/desires determines how far Allah will guide you.
let's also not foget that being upset by the existence of many sects and how they deal with each others, although bad indeed, doesn't give you a green light to choose freely, or necessarily means that we should put our differences under the rug (it depends) and compromise, or affect one's certainty, or mean that we are all true muslims (some are some not), or that the drama between them harms Islam (compromising the truth does), etc ...there are scientific (3ilmi) criteria to deal with this, interest of muslims although one of them, is preceded by many others, such as preserving Islam as revealed. people who call for the reconciliation between sects without any regard to 3ilmi criteria, although their intention is generally good, are no different from those calling for the reconciliation between religions, truth takes precedence from emotions, we are in a test, don't fail it or get a bad grade for silly reasons.
Honestly, i just see it as a identity label. I don't like how we are dividing ourselves as Muslims. I prefer to call myself as a Muslim that's it. Although i do tolerate these people, after all it's between them and God. I have friends regardless of their religion, if they are making a world a better place, i am happy for them. Also i agree so much with you at the end, most of the time it's not about the text, rather the influence of surrounding people and how they present things. This can be a powerful tool which can be used for good/bad purposes depending on person. I wish Muslims represented the Islam correctly but that's not true. Many more people would embrace Islam if we present Islam correctly to them but again nowadays religion is being used for their own gains. I want to hear your perspective about this.

Belief in God is better than no belief in God, but then two contradictory perceptions of God can't both be true or equal. In the same way the divisions within Islam are not all equal and sound. Someone's faith may be a matter between them and God but in pursuit of one belief, one has to reject many others, therefore one has to deem some people right and some people wrong. By making the distinction one is by no means challenging the liberties of the others. I totally disagree with much of your insinuations in this post. Yes believing in God is better than belief in no God but the correct belief in God is better than wrong beliefs about Him. You cannot be just as good if you don't serve God as He deserves to be served and worshiped so how can all religions make you as good as the true religion. You are totally wrong here.

Quran forbids sectarianism. Sorry, but Shia, or Sunni, you are both wrong. Read Quran. Stop with the Hadith. The only Hadith you should follow is what is in Quran relating what the Prophet did. Come back to Islam. Your religion was made easy for you. Don't complicate matters with explanations and rituals and rules, that refer to, or are sourced from, other humans. From early times, many will enter the gates of heaven, but from later times, few. Don't be one of the many. Be one of the few.

You’re not telling the truth about qadr in Sunni Islam. The fact is that everything is predestined in Sunni theology, and people who use any bit of logic will have trouble with this, because a good God cannot predestine evil and then punish people for it. Sunni Islam makes God evil. This is why people who convert to Shi’ism mention this, and they are right. You’re also not quite accurately representing how Sunnis treat the “sahaba.” They are treated like demigods. They are not criticized, and the many wrongdoings, including killings, that they perpetrated are not studied or scrutinized. Instead Sunni ulema teach everyone to venerate “sahaba” and ignore the differences among them and ignore the troubling aspects of them.
