Awesome salmon fishing trip. It is great to see Alaska in all it's beauty. The fresh salmon are so amazing to eat. I do miss that. I once helped some natives pull 85 silver salmon out of a net in one go. I enjoy your adventures with your family and seeing how your children are so excited to experience Alaska with you. We just went to Whittier on our boat using snag hooks. My 2 teen kids my husband and myself got 13 sockeye salmon and 22 spotted prawns was a great day.

We fill our freezer with sockeye in Seward every spring. Enough for a year’s worth for both us and the dogs. If you’re here in June to early July, definitely give it a try! To clarify for non-Alaskans… all sockeye fishing is snagging. Even the flossing technique we use in freshwater to protect our trout. Sockeye eat plankton in the ocean and stop feeding entirely once they hit freshwater. So the only way to catch a sockeye is snagging or a dip netting.

I used a snagging hook 40 Years back in Indiana where its illegal to snag. Well we wear doing our thing and somebody yelled game warden so I dropped the snagging hook in my wadders and it got hooked on my _____ and well it hurt and there was no game warden what a experience I will never forget ..... Don't snag your Ball _😮😮😮 in Indiana .......
