After watching this video I decided to give U1 a try. It’s been my bedroom remote since December, a simple setup with TV, soundbar, Roku and BD player. You have to use it until switching devices is second nature but then it works very well, especially for $40 or whatever. The only button I couldn’t find is the Eject for the BD player. Pretty sure I could assign a color button to do it but most non-streamed movies we watch are on a hard drive. Retraining your brain to operate it can take a while but the scroll wheel totally makes sense to keep the price down. It will pass muster for you, too, just give it time.
@@hatoraidcowboy ps, All my devices were in the database, including the upgraded soundbar I switched to last week, so no problem there. With the gaming systems gone I guess the TV room isn’t any more complex than the bedroom with TV, receiver, Nvidia Shield and BD player. Good thing, the downstairs Harmony is dying, too, so that will also have to go soon. I’ll always miss my Harmonys, though.
Just got mine this week after my harmony elite died… Some comments… my Cambridge amplifier and media player were not in the DB. They fixed this through my message in the app within 24 hours👍 I use macros as a substitute for activity but in every component I can still adjust the volume control to my receiver.
@@hatoraidcowboy Your comments are helpful! Everyone says the X1 has better physical production (though it should at 5x price), but in terms of ease of use: changing activities quickly, and adjusting volume without changing devices/activity - is the X1 still better in those terms? From video reviews, it kinda looks like U1 might work better in these terms. Since you have used both, any opinions w this? Sounds like you did NOT need to switch devices to change volume w U1 or both?
His criticism of this remote is not correct. He says that you can turn on the receiver and the blu-ray player at the same time, using a simple macro. Which is correct. But he goes on to say that to control volume (or other things) you have to scroll away from the blu-ray and select the receiver. That is incorrect. Set up a simple macro on the blu-ray page so that pushing the volume up/down buttons will control the receiver's volume. No need to switch from device to device.
Yep. This guy needs to know what he is talking about before he reviews something. It is easy to make the volume/mute buttons control the audio amplifier of your choice no matter what device you are scrolled to.
Just a tip, anything that requires a long press won't work because it don't hold the button. It sends quick, repeating signals that similar short presses.
True. The Harmony remotes have decades of industry leading technology. I hope somebody can match if not exceed their remotes. Until then I’m keeping a death grip on mine
Just got mine. Hooked up Fire cube, Roku, Sound bar fine. TV has IR and was able to connect but remote only works about 4 feet away. I'm sending it back.
@@hatoraidcowboy; I think this is where the confusion lies; I believe what Harmony called (activities), everyone else calls “macros” & my understanding is that both the U1 & X1 can, in fact, accept one-button (or screen) selection to power-on the req’d devices as well as selecting each’s proper input…(accomplished via macros).
I definitely agree. He’s very misinformed. All the features that he said that you cannot do with this remote I have done them in my remote has done them flawlessly
I like my Elite in theory but man its been a frustrating experience with the constant disconnects from the hub. Its such a hassle getting it to connect again. Maybe its just my unit but I gave up on it years ago.
@@harrystamas8728 Really? It definitely can be buggy sometimes, but I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with it disconnecting. For me its been pretty solid even still now.
The thumbnail says Harmony killer? No, Logitech killed the Harmony remotes themselves. This is no where near as easy to program as the Harmony's were. But since they want a fortune for a used (or new) Harmony remote I may try one.
Yea really wish Harmony didnt stop making them. People loved them so not sure how they came to the decision that they werent making money off of sales.
I have never found a remote better than the Harmony One, the newer version never had numbered buttons. I want to use a remote without looking at the bloody lcd screen, any ideas if there is anything out there? it must have activities as manually switching between devices is also annoying and defeats the object for me.
Unfortunately I dont think there is much of what you are looking for out there. Everything is gonna have an lcd screen. I actually prefer a screen with touch
Ok, I’m trying to replace my Harmony 700, I don’t need a hub, but I do want one-button push for a specific activity, like “watch tv?” If not, this remote is useless. At first, it sounded like you said this remote wouldn’t do an activity, but then later, you said you could set up macros to do this. That’s actually the same thing; it’s just that Logitech gave that the name “activity,” whereas others like SofaBaton call it “macros.” But that’s been my question; will the U1 allow me to set-up “one-button push” (activity) to say, “watch tv” or would I need to go up to the X1?
Sorry for the confusion….Yes you can setup macros and you should be able to setup a “one button” push. However, it’s line of sight whereas having a hub the remote talks to the hub and then the hub sends out the signal to your devices. I wasnt very happy with the U1 but if you dknt need a hub the U1 should work fine, but it has some bugs and is limited to what the X1 can do.
That’s what I’ve been hinting at; I simply wanted to know if either the U1 or X1 remote would accept (1) button push to accomplish what Logitech termed “activities.” If neither will (at least as smooth as Harmony), maybe it’s best to wait until certain bugs are worked out?
Again, sorry for the confusion on the U1 remote….Yes both remotes support Macros, activities…..The X1 has more features, and a hub and is less buggy. The U1 will need line of site if bluetooth is not supported on your device. But both the U1 and X1 both support activities for one button control.
Honestly I’m not sure on that. You can email Sofabaton and they can tell you for sure. If not, they are really good about adding remote codes very quickly.
1) Not sure that's true. 2) Even if it is, the only access it asks for is location WHEN YOU ARE USING THE APP! 3) So once you've setup your devices, you can disable all access to the app OR just delete it. "Issue" solved.
@@hatoraidcowboy stupid question perhaps: looked like you entered Playstation for company and 4 for the device model. DId you try Sony and PS4 respectively?
I could not get the remote to work with any of my devices. A Intel NUC HTPC, Samsung TV, Sharp Aquos TV, and an Akai AV 5.1 receiver. It worked with none of them.
@@hatoraidcowboy i think there is an option to learn IR code from the original remote? suppose to be there when adding a device in the options, you tried that?
@@berj79 Yup I tried that too. It didnt work too well with my Anthem for some reason. Hopefully the X1 works better. Supposed to get that one in for review in April.
@@DCurt2287 Yea I wasnt too impressed with the U1. It leaves a lot to be desired in functionality. If you’re only using a couple devices at a time then it’ll probably suffice but not for a home theater setup. I should be getting the X1 to test in a few weeks. What issues do you have with yours?
