Just as I start to think I understand something someone throws a curve ball in there. Amazed how slow 93 MPH looks when Matt does it and how fast it feels when I am still short of it.

LOL I was thinking exactly the same thing Adrian. He has to dial back to an almost half swing and looks like he is doing a drill.

I play off 11 and have a tested genuine driver swing speed of 88mph. As part of a recent test of 9 balls across a couple of weeks, I tried the duo soft and the first glaring difference was that I was half a club longer with 8, 9 and all my wedges, and it comes off the face beautifully soft and it spins well enough to stop within a yard or two, even with a 7 iron. With my driver and woods, it was as long as pretty much all the others that I tried, so the TXG test at 95 is probably a bit misleading, possibly inappropriate, in terms of offering a proper result. I must say that I prefer to play the Titleist Tour Softs, because of better spin on my chip shots, but the Wilson Duo Softs were definitely the biggest surprise to me in my test, as they were the cheapest ball I tried (in Western Australia), and were among the best in terms of results for me. The reason I’ve offered this comment: don’t let the Wilson name or the cheap price turn you off, the Duo Soft is an excellent choice for those that like a soft feel and have more moderate swing speed. To me, ProV1s do feel like rocks, so if you have similar experiences do not hesitate to try the Duo Soft, you will be very pleasantly surprised.

BTW, I just picked up some Duo Soft balls, the 29 compression version. I have very average swing speeds, and mostly play a short Par 3 course, and often in the morning when it is cold. I was all alone on course this morning, so I played 3 Duo Softs and 3 ProV1 off each tee shot. I've never hit a ball with so much feel before. The Duo felt incredible on short 7-PW shots. As suggested by the TXG data, I actually gained a little distance with the Duo. I was consistently 3-5 yards over what my Arrcos data suggested playing more normal compression balls, over 250+ rounds on this course. A higher launch with less spin was pretty obvious. And something I never thought about, but what a difference off the putter face too. Much more of a soft thud versus a hard click. After testing for a full round, I played a normal round with the Duo, and shot a personal best at 4 under.

I’m a 4 handicap. My driver speed is 105mph. Played this ball this week rather than my normal Srixon Z star. Tied my lowest round ever, 73. Loved the feel of this ball! In fact I laughed out loud after the first ball strike. Slightly less check up around the greens, but not enough to effect scoring as long as you’re playing for it. Full swing 7 iron stopped on the greens perfectly. I believe a lot of good players would be surprised trying this ball.

Finally somebody makes a quality review on these balls. I play two golf balls, tp5 and these guys. I tend to play these balls during morning rounds and colder days as I am usually a little more stiff and the compression helps. I love the feeling smashing these with short irons though, feels like you are crushing it :) I do tend to see the lower / straighter ball flight like you mentioned. My swing speed is around 107 and for me I don't notice a big difference with driver, a few yards less maybe. I think for the price you honestly can't beat it. I score just as well with these as i do tp5 and prov1 so why spend 2x as much :/ FYI guys, I don't know if this exists, but I would love a breakdown of Matt's swing. I really like the look of it, seems patient and powerful :)

Played 4 rounds with the Duo Soft + and been very impressed. Picking up extra yards (in particular the driver) with all clubs with minor loss of spin with mid to short irons. Normally use Chrome ERC. Play off 8 with a swing speed of < 100mph. The best thing about these balls is the feel around and on the greens. The soft feel gives you confidence to hit it firm and get it close

Nice video. I've been using the dou soft since last season and I live the way it feels. Tried the prov1 and they felt like a rock compared to dou. I'm not a fast swinger, but I couldn't tell much difference in distance between the two. So the dou soft is my new ball. Just love the way it feels, and I'd personally prefer a good feeling ball over what might be a little longer ball that feels like I'm hitting a rock. Just my opinion. But that's what I prefer.

I always enjoy your videos. I play the Wilson Duo Soft. Combined with my Wilson FG Tour Forged or my 716 MB it is an odd feeling to have no feeling on the strike. Regardless, I have told everyone I know they are simply longer. I do not know of a reason to not play this ball besides ego. I am 50-years of age. As with most golfers, I have played great golf in my life and terrible golf. I shot a 31 the other day (par 35). Besides making putts, the difference was using a 5 iron with the Wilson Duo Soft on two of the par 3s that play 182-190 or so. I have played those holes a million times. I think I gain 5-6 yards of carry with the Wilson Duo Soft. A 5-iron becomes a choice for me. That helps lots at least mentally over should I use my 4-iron or my 4H. I am sports psychologist, so I need all the help I can get.

Interesting coverage. I play the duo and I like the ball in terms of look, feel, sound and price most certainly. It would be interesting to see an actual slower swing speed player test the balls with you guys. As far as the driver goes I’d be interested also to see the slower swing speed player use an appropriate driver for them fit for them. Maybe a less stiff shaft and a 10.5 degree head. Or something there a-bouts for the “Everyman” out there.

Great comparison review. Still too many golfers who this ball is targeted at will thumb their noses at it. I play with many people that can't really take advantage of the Pro V1 but still insist on playing it. One lady golfer who is at least a 35 handicap says Pro V1 helps her game and won't play "cheap" balls. All in all play what you like in the price you're willing to lose. I (15 hdcp) play the Wilson Elite Fifty, mainly so I can easily identify my ball amongst all the Titleist played in my group and that ball is fine.

There are a lot of golfers, i.e. everyone retired in Florida, where this $20 is a perfect golf ball. Their 65-90mph iron to driver speeds will not over compress this ball and they never generate enough speed / launch to get peak heights of 33m with 45 degree land angles on any club except a teed up wedge that this type of ball will give them 2-3 yards longer per iron and their driver distance will not be affected. It's a perfect senior's golf ball and new player ball that probably 50% of all actual golfers can play. The AVX is just a better version of it made with more premium materials designed to more serious 90-100mph driver swing speed players. The challenge I personal face when I occasionally play the AVX is remembering that I have to remember all my irons fly 5 yards further.

Would be interesting to see a slower swing speed with a 12-13° driver. Some one around that 125-130 ball speed with a 17-18° launch and 2000 spin would produce ideal carry numbers for average joes.

Duo's are my go-to ball when the temperature drops below 10C (in late fall or very early spring). I play Z-Star and Pro V1 during the summer but don't like the feel when they are cold. I played earlier this year at just above freezing with a Duo and Z-Star (had the course basically to myself) and the Duo performed better. I don't get that crazy side spin with it so it ends up on the short stuff and the carry is the same. Its not as good a ball on the green but that time of the year the greens are a crap shoot anyway. And it comes in bright matte colors (red is my choice) for those low winter sun days.

I play with Wilson staff Zip. I get plenty of controllable spin around the greens. Less than prov1 but I can still control it. Sometimes I prefer slightly less spin. Descent angle helps. I do see a gain in most yardages. Now if I am warmed up good and striking good with a driver. I do switch to a prov1 just because I know I’ll get more out of it. Just really depends on the hole I am playing. I am using rogue driver and Wilson tour V6 irons, and Ben Hogan/ Cleveland wedges.

At $20/dozen vs $44/dozen for the average golfer I think the test was superb. A 100 mph driver swing was equal in distance in both balls but on lower irons if you can pick up 8 yards per club it makes it a no brained. A thousand rpm less doesn't mean anything from 100 yards out. We are not trying to spin the ball backwards and off the green. I'll take an extra 8 yards off my wedges at 8800 rpm vs 8 yards shorter at 10,000 rpm. Both balls will stop but I may be able with 8+ more yards be able to hit a PW vs a 9 iron and increase the backspin.

I did this test lat year with the Bridgestone Tour B X and the Tour B RX. (Swing Speed is right on the cusp at 105mph per their ball fitting.) Findings were very similar. Was easily and consistently a club longer on the irons with the B RX but lost that distance off the driver. Liked the feel off the RX a lot better and home course is soft and fairly short that doesn't require the bomber drives but does have a few long par 3's. It was also a club longer then the B XS but I think that difference is do to spin as compression between the 2 balls is very similar. Essentially I have realized that I could game any of the Bridgestone line and a lot of it comes down to the course I'm playing as conditions on public courses seem to wildly fluctuate. Soft and slow I game the RX. Hard and fast I game the B XS. Side note: It's not fair that Matt looks like he is hitting a short pitch shot and drives it 250. DEMORALIZING! Lol

I tried the Duo Soft last year. I didn't experience significant distance gains (senior swing speed of about 85 mph). The real down side of the ball to me was chipping around the greens. Great video guys. I’m playing the Taylormade project S and I’m thinking I’ll give that Wilson a go. My swing speed is in that range and I’d like the extra few yards on my irons and the lower spin. A quick question on the mattyboi lower speed test. Would it be more beneficial to do the test with a standard flex S or even R flex shaft and higher loft at those speeds. Better simulate what the average golfer does and uses.

Today I played a Wilson i wound golf ball and WOW. It blew me away. It kept up with my Bridgestone Tour B X. It did not spin as much on the greens but absolutely has shot stopping abilities. Do you guys know any specs on this ball? Any information would be hepfull Thanks.

I am a big wilson fan. I have a set d7 irons. Only question is how durable is this ball?

Matt's 90's swings look like a chip and run when compared with his normal speed! 🙂

I would be intrested in the difference of these on a higher lofted driver that ametuers would be playing. 10.5 or higher. With Ronny hitting the shots.

Wilson makes a 50 compression ball, the fifty elite. I would like to see the numbers on that as well since it's got twice the compression rate of a Duo.

Could you loft up to a 12° driver, or higher, and utilize the lower spin to increase distance?

Tywithay absolutely you could. Increase spin loft = increased spin.

So on carry alone the Duo Soft is shorter by 1 yard. BUT in total carry Duo Soft 4 yards longer than PV1. ( duo soft total carry: + 6yrds wedge + 6yrds 7i - 8yrds driver)
