So beautiful! As we all know Black women have been heat straightening their hair since the early 19th century; so why not occasionally straighten it with heat protectant. It adds a layer of versatility to hair styling. Growing up it wasn't the heat styling that caused my hair to break off or to become damaged it was my mom putting relaxers in my hair, something I never asked for as a child. I love learning about the protectants and styling tools that you share with us. Thank you!

I think you did a good job on your hair and it looks beautiful. The only concern I have is applying the castor oil before the flat ironing process, as the oil could potentially fry the hair strands. I think it's important for us to really enjoy our hair, especially when we're doing everything right; i.e., safe hair practices, protective styling, etc. You've absolutely earned the right and privilege to do so. Really enjoying this video series. Thanks for bringing us along on the journey. Blessings ❤

I use very minimal product when straightening 1. Because you're not actually supposed to use as much product with the revair, and 2. I'm of the opinion that TOO MUCH product will cause the hair to burn. I just can't get my head around oil as a heat protectant when throwing grease on a fire just makes it worse. 🤔 Plus, then I can use higher heat but only one pass. I also don't do the comb chase method bc my hair and combs while dry are not friends, so I wait until after it's fully straightened to detangle again😅. That soft press is really pretty on you! I'm a soft press person myself. I think bone straight silk presses are where damage occurs. I know you said you're going into a protective style, but while your hair is straight it might be fun to play around with some more heatless(overnight) styles😃 I like that we as naturals are getting to a place where we feel more comfortable using heat/colour etc. As long as the curls stay healthy, it's so much fun to experiment with styling. 😊

Thanks for all those tips. good point about too much product burning the hair. maybe I can force my hair after heat because I just can’t risk dryness😅. this is the super conservative natural talking. definitely not used to having almost product less heat styled hair 🙆🏽‍♀️. Especially that I naturally don’t plan to increase my cleansing frequency. am taking notes though

The castor oil is to go on after you have silk press your hair not before flat ironing. Castor oil is a heavy oil it fry’s the hair and causes a lot of friction to the hair. Redken frizz dismiss or Aveda heat protectant are awesome for silk presses. only one pass with the flat iron will needed. At the root of the hair maybe 2/3 but not the length of the hair

You did a good job. It looks gorgeous! IMHO there is nothing wrong with using heat to straighten natural hair. It's your hair and you should enjoy it however you want. I think it's a bit sad that the natural hair community is wound so tightly that you, as a content creator, feel the need to explain yourself when making a choice about what to do with your hair.🤷‍♀

Tis so beautiful! I understand why you didn't want to fully straighten it. I had my hair blown out for 12 days recently and it was bliss having that change. But then I washed it because it was itching and I missed my curls! Sometimes, heat isn't the enemy.

I'd love if you try being a straight natural for at least a year, as you're very thorough and detailed in what you do and what you learn along the way. I have 4b+c mostly c fine strands with medium density, and I'm afraid to flat iron my hair. I've blow dried halfway before to do a stretched twist out, and I think for my fine strands, that's all the heat I will use. At least until I reach my hair length goal of 22 inches. (Currently at 18 inches, 4 years past last relaxer! Yay! 🥳🎊)
