#everydaycarry #sogknives The SOG Kiku XR is, in plain terms, beautiful. CTS-XHP blade steel with a gorgeous compound grind, Micarta scales, and the stellar XR lock, make this a tough and interesting knife.
I can only agree entirely with you. This knife looks so attractive, balanced, and yes, a lot cooler than Spyderco models with same size. Thanks a lot for sharing such nice video. I need to put my hand in one. Now hard is to decide the handle color as they are all so cool.
I loved the look of this blade so much i ordered the green and the black. Can't wait to fidget with the xr lock. I wish they didn't assist the flash because i love the look of those too.
Thanks for the review! I'm late to the game on this one and my only hesitation is the length of the blade. Wish this had a 3.25-3.50" blade. I still may pull the trigger anyway, it's even on sale at the moment. Definitely a cool looking knife!!
@@ATherapeuticEdge Yes, I have been looking for a beefy 3 inch legal blade for CA. I also like the weight for self-defense. A solid XR lock is an additional plus. I also fell in love and bought two !
@@mrmaxx4400 you can have any blade length in CA, as long as it isn't an auto, gravity knife, or butterfly knife(those have to be under 2 inches). But length limits can vary by jurisdiction(I have yet to see a cop give a boomer a hard time for carrying a buck 110 where I live, I've seen a lot of buck 110s where I live and those knives are definitely longer than 3 inches).
Excellent walkthrough! Thank you! Any chance you could put this side by side with the Kiku Assist? Maybe a 3 way of the whole Kiku line (XR, assist, 4" fixed)? I'm in love with all 3 of them and am trying really hard not to purchase all 3. Tell me why I should stop fighting the urge...besides the price tag.
It’s good to see SOG starting to address market demands. Still, the competition is not standing still either. SOG is still not on any of my shopping lists, even as a maybe. I would only consider one of the new improved at a DEEP discount. SOG, you did us wrong for too long and you better have hat-in-hand when you come home.
I bought the Terminus Xr and its pretty sweet. That's only because of the hype and my ever evolving curiosity of the "new" SOG blades. Its not the best new blade on the market but its definitely not the worst.
Wtf?! Just because you bought the Walmart plastic bargain models don’t mean this company did anyone wrong…lmao! You US customers and fanboys are easy to manipulate and Sog just don’t engage in that market. Stop buying junk and then blaming your tools. I have 10 sog knives that are all going up in value..
I love it except for the recurve. I am not fond of recurves in most all cases. At that price point, I could not justify the purchase with that recurve. Straighten out that recurve or offer a tanto and I'm ALL in.
Hey man, i know this vid is a year old but i really need your help on this one, i got a sog kiku XR recently and i see in your vid that you seem to able to spydie flick it open (although it looked kinda hard still lol) but mine is damn near impossible... is it cause your XR lock is broken in on yours and mine is still too new or something? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
SOG pissed in my Wheaties many years ago by taking a year to fix a Flash, so I sold the hand full of Sogs I had then, Almost same thing with Gerber. Lets say that had a different name on it, than I see just fine. Looks great to me and like it allot, and the price is right in the middle of what a lot of people spend, 60 up or down, just like you said about Spyderz. Ask Christine if she'd dye it purple if I sent a bottle of RIT, next time you leave it unattended...
Lol.. no purples.. and yeah, SOG spent a lot of time and energy making themselves a bad reputation. These XR knives, and the new AT knives, are a solid step in the right direction but SOG has a long way to go.
I just made an executive decision! I'll buy one of these when someone makes a video on how to sharpen it. That hollow grind recurve is beyond my capabilities. I may need one of those new-fangled sharpener's that hold the blade constant in a jaw. Now were up to $400.
I guess you’d have to use a rod or something like the spyderco sharpmaker. I suck at sharpening too but that one definitely looks like more trouble than it’s worth.
@@whatfreedom7 I got the Kiku, and all I can say is it's absolutely worth it. I haven't stopped smiling since it arrived. It's a friggen great knife, at least IMHO.
If your sharpening stone has good edges you can turn it on its side and drag it backwards at a 25 degree tilt a few times and that’ll work great. The tip to recurves is sharpening with the blade backwards. Elevating a sharpening stone helps get the angle and elevation needed to get it flat against the stone as well but I prefer the edge method.
I have 2 0350's, because I love that knife. The Kiku has a much more complex grind and that XR lock, which is likely where the additional cost comes in.
Completely correct. Local police requested assistance from Benchmade. Police use facilities to destroy (melt down) confiscated firearms that they have held for specific periods of time. Happens all the time. Benchmade got a bad rap for helping law enforcement.
Well, I completely understand. However I've got a ton of knives in the $200 range and the Kiku is on par with most in that range. Not as good as a few but better than many.
