I EDC'd this knife everyday for over 3 years before I was a "knife guy" and moved up to high end knives. I abused the crap out of it, and it still looks and functions great. It's retired now, but I'll likely never get rid of it. Can't recommend it enough to someone looking for a cheap knife.

I used to have one of these SOG Trident knives. After many years of service, it gave up the ghost (i.e. I lost the darn thing) and acquiring it's replacement led me to high end knives. I still don't think I'll find better value and utility in a pocket folder than the original SOG Trident, although the modern Trident AT-XR from SOG is a fine knife in it's own right.

I had one and really liked it. I was very impressed by the toughness of SOG's aus-8. I stabbed the tip about 3/4 inches into a tree and jerked the blade sideways with a lot of force - absolutely no damage. Pried a board off of a wine crate without snapping. Why? For science, of course.

the vulcans arc lock is more like the axis lock, with so, the more you pay the better the knives get. Sog Tomcat is a beast and has great fit and finish

Hah, I was just re-watching the Knives Town review on the Fallkniven NL5 last night. Good thing about youtube is that those old reviews will still be around and useful long after the reviewer has moved onto other things.

How is the blade play. I bought eight pieces of sog gear new in box at auction and all of the arc locks had blade play. The only sog products I would recommend are their multitools.

Crazy knife regulations abound, but not in Florida. SOG gets many things right but overall still tend to fail in my opinion. Loose pivots and sharp edges where there shouldn't be reduce my overall satisfaction.

In Canada assisted knives are legal and sold in stores but if I tried to get any sent over from the US it would get confiscated any knife that can be open with one hand like a flipper even will get taken

If customs take assisted knives then how does anything ever get here? I can buy Karambits and any flick knives I want to on ebay as long as they are aussie sellers so how do they get them here?

karambits are only legal when they don't have the ring in the handle, I've had one taken at customs, they are classified as a trench knife with the ring.

Good news from the future! SOG is using powdered metallurgy these days, with offerings is S35VN and CPM XHP. Unfortunately, nothing is affordable in 2023...

What the heck, your not allowed assisted open knifes in Australia. That's just funny. I feel sorry for you poor buggers. Even in New Zealand "the land of the nothing cool" were allowed assisted openers. I'd be lost at work without it 😜🗡👍🏻

A flickknife (or other similar device) that has a blade which opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by any pressure applied to a button, spring or device in or attached to the handle of the knife. Im guessing the key words are "in or attached to the handle" which means assisteds are legal cause the pressure is applied on the blade?

But then department of immigration and border protection says this "Automatic knives such as flick knives, switchblades and *assisted opening knives* that have a blade folded or recessed into the handle that opens automatically (including parts) are not allowed into Australia"

The knife you have is infinitely better than the knife you left at home. SOG's crossbar style locks are good to 1500 lbs of force, so if you had to fight with a folder it's not the worst option.

trav v I see how that might be funny for you... We have to choose whether we want a one-handed knife, or a locking knife, the knife can not be locking and one-handed at the same time. Or just carry a 4.7" (12cm) fixed blade, because thats a lot less dangerous. And some case laws say that coated blades or tanto blades are weapons and illegal to carry. Luckily, I live in a rural area where the cops like knifes and don't give a fuck. Cops have complimented me on my Kershaw Cryo II.
