It's important to say that YOU SHOULD NEVER USE those mylar glasses behind a telescope, behind a pair of binoculars, or behind any kind of magnifying tool; always use mylar as a FRONT lens filter!

I think another important tip is to be mobile and flexible in your location. Even if theres not clouds in the forecast its gonna suck if theres one cloud passing in front of the sun during totality.

I have one of these zoom lenses I used to use it on my iPhone 7 and then XR But not sure any will work with a 14 pro with 3 lenses

I have a filter for protection. Will use liveview anyways. Shot some nice pictures with 6000 mm from the mercury transit

I tried a bunch of tripods with this setup and hand holding just worked better. The lens just doesn't attach well. The tripod they include is too small.

Yea, the mini tripod sucks in that case, I use a big tripod with the phone mount, that should do it

Tony & Chelsea Northrup I would like to do a time-lapse of the solar eclipse. I have a GoPro Hero 5 Black and an IPhone 7 Plus. Which one would be better for a time lapse? Would they capture the detail of the eclipse? What settings would be best to use for either? Do I need solar film for doing a time-lapse of the eclipse with the GoPro or the IPhone? Thanks

I would build my own out of pvc and whatnot... Don't forget the whatnot. I'm sure you could build some sort of tripod rig in under 30 min.

I plan to use my 1 inch sensor point and shoot on a tripod with the glasses taped, and control it from the smartphone to avoid camera shake or looking up.

Why don't use a tripod with the phone and lens ? A phone tripod mount is super cheap and will help a lot with the shaking.

Don't these clip on telephoto lenses have crappy glass? And if I'm zooming with my fingers on a phone camera, isn't that using digital zoom which will degrade image quality even further?

"don't try to do this at home" - i had my experience in 1999 (eclipse over europe). maybe you have the chance to see a total eclipse once in your lifetime. it will only last for less than a minute. i wouldn't waste this precious moment with a ridiculous optical-mechanical crap to get eventually poor result, nothing or a ruined sensor. the chance that you'll come out with the greatest picture of all is almost none. the chance that you'll miss the show is immense. i suggest that you come together with good friends, maybe a good wine, don't forget your eclipse glasses ... and enjoy the moment! P.S.: here in germany, we had an overclouded sky. we saw the daylight going dark and the street lights switching on. what an experience.

schmoldovia guter Tipp. Will auch vorher das gesamte Setup stehen haben, dass ich vom entscheidenden Moment Bilder habe, es aber nicht unbedingt durch nen Kamerasucher sehen muss. 2015 hatte ich mir extra Urlaub genommen. Man konnte nichtmal die Straße vom Fenster aus sehen, so dicht war der Nebel hier.. 1999 war ich auch dabei. Sind von der Schule aus extra hin gefahren

I watched from Austria. It was also partly cloudy. I am very thankful that my dad used a Sony Handy cam on a tripod to film the event. During the event my Opa told me I would be able to see another eclipse in my lifetime near my home in Seattle. I'm not going to try to film or photograph. My best memories from 1999 are hearing the cowbells stop as the cows laid down to sleep during totality.
