I have been looking forward to getting this Automatic Chicken Coop Door. There are nocturnal goings on in my area, so I need to lock down the coop door every night and open it again in the morning. Not a huge hassle if I am home but a hassle nonetheless when I am not home and one less hassle I could do without. This Automatic coop door, by JINORTUA, is economical and what I was looking for. I wanted an aluminum roll door, not the perforated type that raises up. I assume if any nocturnal critters can enter the chicken yard, which will take them a lot of effort, it might raise more interest in what is in there with the perforated hole doors. Solar power is a huge plus, even though I could have powered a door as I have power in my coop for 16 hours of light, so they will lay all year around. Nights get long here in Northern Michigan. The solar-powered battery means it will work of power failure. Amazon's description indicates “over a year of usage on a single charge”, so even long winter nights in Northern Michigan or even Alaska shouldn’t hinder operation once it is set to go. The door opens and closes automatically either in timed mode or light sensing mode. You can also use the buttons on the back of the control unit, or the remote control included. The ability to set the door to a timer is also extremely helpful. The first night after I installed the door and had the door set to Sunset and sunrise, all the chickens were in when the door shut about 12 minutes after the designated sunset. It opened in the morning at sunrise, no problem. Night two wanted to watch and check again before letting it go and half my flock got locked out as they hadn’t bedded down for the night in the coop, at 12 minutes after sunset. I let them in manually. The control allows for sunset/sunrise or timer setting for opening or closing. The timer setting is not a clock, it is a 24-hour timer. Turn it on at 9 pm to close and it will close every 24 hours after that or every night at 9 pm. It is plenty dark at 9pm this late in the Summer and will be until Springtime next year. I have the open setting set to sunrise and the closing setting set to 9pm timer. I didn’t sit out there at sunrise to watch it open, but it was open when I checked later in the morning, so it is working as hoped. Watched it close via the timer at 9pm, so that is good to go also. My existing coop door was what I would call unique, so after cobbling a panel for the new Auto Chicken door to cover up the original door learning the control operation was necessary. Directions for the control unit are pretty straightforward and easy to follow, but you do need to read them to understand how to adjust the settings on the control unit. Suggest not tossing directions so you have them for future reference. I included a copy of the directions at the end of my review video. It is a good door and works as advertised. I would suggest purchasing this unit to a friend if asked about it.
FYI: When you receive the Door the control unit battery is discharged. USB charges the control unit battery as soon as it is received as you need to do so before using it for the first time. It only works off the control unit battery, not USB power. USB power only charges the battery.
