Mimicing production workflow, we will assign our texture maps on our rest pose mech, using a Material Library LOP, Karma Material Subnet and then finally with a Material X Standard Surface. Then we will bind the material to our mech geometry. We'll do the same for the terrain environment.

Hey! amazing explanation, very concrete! I hve a question, if i imported to Houdini and FBX object, and the object has 2 different materials from Blender how can i apply 2 different materials in Houdini to the same object, i can't seem to work with the material IDs workflow for a same object, thank you beforehand

Hello Adam! Awesome guide here. I have a quick question. My Mech goes totally black once I assign the material. I have double-checked and it's the same thing,,, could there be a difference in the Houdini 20 version approach to the "assignmaterial" node? Thanks!

It is very common that a new version of Houdini will break something. IIRC when I went through this tutorial there were a couple of things that were not exactly the same. I HIGHLY recommend that you run through every tutorial you find with the same version they are using at first unless you're really familiar with Houdini. The frustration and time wasted troubleshooting what isn't right is painful. IIRC there was a need to create a subnet input connector that was not in the default node that Adam was using. Anyway, good luck with whatever your issue was. Oh, sometimes it's a good idea to just scrap everything and start over. Repetition is really good anyway.

@@CanalDoClaudin Hope I'm not too late. For me what made it work is just by turning Karma XPU in the viewport. With HoudiniGL it wasn't working (sometimes black, sometimes grey). You can even turn Storm render so you can see the textures in your viewport without Karma rendering. It works both in Karma Material or USD MaterialX Builder as well.

Maybe consider removing or updating the "A Beautiful Game" Playlist for karma, it's highly out of date, with many explained things like materials not working since things changed. Had to watch this to apply materials.
