Alot of haters. Plenty of Tesla's that burnt years before the Bolt. He bought the proper car for the correct purpose. Perfect car for a teen to learn the EV principals in.
Hi, just watch your video and concur with its a great little car. I hav a 2020 LT and we love it but can't wait for my replaced batteries, it as been a year and still waiting. thank again for the video. Roy
I've had a 22 for 2 weeks now. I have 100k+ cars that I don't enjoy as much as this thing. The turn in and handling are mind blowing. Can't say enough good things about the Bolt EV.
I like my '22 2LT. I do a combination of highway and city driving with a 60 mile round trip commute to work. The only hassle getting it was getting the home charger since the tax deal ran out. Chevy made it sound like they cover all of that, they don't. The contractor HUGELY oversold it, and the estimate with my out of pocket was $3k(!). I rejected it and my price was came down to $674. They make it sound like the charger will be in your garage by the end of the week. It won't be. It took about 3 weeks from purchase to having it all up and running. I live in Virginia Beach, and when you look at the map of chargers in this town, you think your app is wonked. It isn't. There are very few places to charge, and about half of those chargers are actually working. Youngkin needs to wake up and smell the 21st century.
I just took a look at a 2022 Bolt EUV and seriously considering swapping my 2021 Kia Sportage. I'm not as concerned with the slower fast charging speed since I'm primarily a city driver and don't do road trips. Things to consider... Thanks for such a great review.
For 90% of your driving charging over night at your house in a level 2 charger will be all you’ll need. Most likely you’ll only need a public charger if you go on a road trip. Bolts can get a range of 250+ miles, which is more than enough for a day full of errands.
I agree with EVERYTHING you say. I tell people the exact same thing. The only thing I think you missed out on was upgrading to the premier. Big mistake! Yes, it’s $4k extra but it’s WELL WELL worth the money. You truly don’t know what you are missing with the 360° camera and rear view mirror camera. Having the rearview camera is a huge game changer. It gives you a far more expensive view than you get with regular rear view mirror. The view out back is like driving a convertible! It’s a huge safety feature. Plus, if you have tinted windows, or people or boxes in the back, it doesn’t matter, you could see perfectly behind you with the camera. Having boxes or people, or tinted windows, would really inhibit your view without this camera. Another huge plus is that the nighttime view is far better than what you could see with your naked eyes. The image is corrected, and you can see if our more detail. It’s like having a color night-view camera. When I first started using it, I wasn’t sure I liked it, then I realized the tilt was slightly off, and I was getting reflections from the regular mirror, mixed in. after proper adjustment, you can’t believe the image quality. It says if you can almost avoid using your side mirrors. By the time something disappears out of the rearview camera, it is right in the your side vision of your eyes. These are all extra safety features that I would absolutely spend the extra money for a new driver to increase awareness and safety. I’m not a music person, but I truly appreciate the boast sound system when I want to turn it up. I think it’s comparable to Tesla sound system. It has the subwoofer, so you really get that extra base. Just like people, don’t realize what they’re missing until they get an EV, you don’t know what you are missing until you get that camera package. The 360° top down camera allows you to pull within inches of a curb, or vehicle without ever touching it. Here in Arizona, allows you to park perfectly below a shaded spot, and center your car exactly where you want it to be. I would never get another vehicle without these two cameras.
Success is not built on success. It's built on failure. It's built on fraustration. it's built on fear that you have to over come. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life
Success people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance-wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time.
I wouldn't think too much longer. I can't imagine Chevy keeping the prices this low for much longer (especially since their inventory is dwindling because of the microchip shortage.)
I have a 2023 on order and found this video very informative. The fact you would buy another is all I need to hear. I made certain to subscribe so I can follow your Bolt progress.
I may have missed it - sorry if I did. Did your insurance premiums drop much going from the Tesla to the Bolt? Especially with the teen driver? We have a 2020 Premiere and love it.
Thank you for your video. I am a proud owner of a 2019 Chevy Bolt Premier, and I am currently working with my teenage daughter on driving. The 360 camera is absolutely fantastic when attempting to parallel park. She enjoys driving the Bolt better the Equinox, and I agree with you that I feel safer for her with all the safety features. All the best with you, your son, family, and your new Bolt. Be well and be safe.
You missed the BEST feature of your car: Driving in "L" mode!!! If you haven't done it, try it for a day or two, and you will never drive in D again. Especially fantastic on windy roads, or in commute traffic. You may never need a brake job. Seriously. I'm on my second Bolt in 5 years. I drive in L mode 100% of the time.
Great video Just subscribed love the gray color I’m considering buying a Bolt but still on the fence on that .. Great video thank you for all the information
I am not surprised that you swapped the Tesla for a Bolt, but I am surprised that you didn't mention the extensive options you have for controlling various functions using buttons on the dash or on the steering wheel. I drove a couple of Tesla's and found it frustrating and distracting to manage the car through a touch screen. I also found the Tesla to feel more cramped with my 6'2" frame, and harder to see traffic lights when stopped right at an intersection without leaning forward. I've put about 20,000 miles on the Bolt, and enjoy driving it every time. I wish I could limit max charge to 80% rather than 90%, but I can control that pretty well now by setting the "charge by" time to later than I leave in the morning.
Nice review. We looked at Tesla Model 3 but bought a well-optioned '20 Bolt LT instead. (We have a '13 Volt that has been amazing; this influenced our decision.) Price was certainly a consideration (ignore the sticker), but my wife would have chosen the Bolt even at price parity. She prefers the more conventional displays and controls, and she loves driving it. I'm 6' 3" and my petite wife is 5' nuthin'. We both love the driving position. Great visibility, easy to get in and out of, bright and spacious interior. We agree with the author's comments on the safety features and how well it handles. We've heard complaints about the seats but find them comfortable-although not quite as good as the front seats in the Volt. This is a great time to pick up a new Bolt. The '22s will be on the lots soon, and they have the same batteries, motor, and drive train as the '20-'21 models. Thanks again for a great revew!
New subscriber. We just got our 2021 Bolt premier about a month ago. We had a 2013 Volt and was so impressed by it that we moved on to the Bolt. Videos have slot of good info and you are right the Level 2 charger is a game changer.
Great review, thank you! I've driven my 2019 Premier since brand new (including 4 Canadian winters) and it's by far THE best car in my life. An incredibly reliable, low-maintenance, quiet and powerful fighter jet. A true friend that gives you a lot without asking too much in return.
Paid $16k for a Bolt Premier 2017 with 39k miles a year ago. Love that car. Nice utility car and good for trips short and long. Drive 300 miles to my mothers and make just one charge stop. A tip from your previous video on charge stations. About half charge stations will require you to use their phone app. I thought it was annoying till I could see the app lets you track your car's charge status. So you can walk to restaurants/stores while it's charging and keep tabs on your car. When using L mode for regen braking you can use the paddle on the back left of the steering wheel to hard regen break if letting up on the accelerator pedal will not stop you fast enough. Heat is the fastest killer of any battery. If your car will sit in the sun for a while try and park it in the shade if it's available. Set 90% max charge if not driving long distances. Avoid going under %50 charge when you can. I keep mine in a garage (previous owner did too) and it's sitting at less %1 battery degradation despite the age. These cars/batteries can last a LONG time if well cared for. For those who want faster charging you can get an inexpensive 32A L2 charger, wire, plug and a 40A breaker for just under $300. Hire an electrician (unless you or family have experience) and you can charge in a few hours most days (if you don't fully drain your battery).
Electricity costs include both delivery and electricity charges. 11¢ sounds too cheap. Here in NJ I have a bolt 22¢ per Kwh. Didn't the Tesla have regen braking?
some states have 10-15¢/kWh the Bolt regen braking one pedal driving is much better controlled with taking foot off accelerator pedal or pulling steering wheel regen paddle for more regen, and can fully stop the car easily in most circumstances, and in city driving give 5-10% miles range back free. Tesla regen braking is much milder.
Bought a 2020 Premier in February of 2020. List $45. Saw a dealer a state away advertising online at $29. Sent screenshot to my local dealer and they matched. 2 years in I love it. Great value, efficiency and fun to drive. Zero issues.
In October 0f 2020 I bought a 2020 Chevy Bolt LT from North Park Chevrolet in Castroville, Texas. I paid $21,499. The window sticker said $21,999, but they took off another $500 because of my military service. I used my VA disability to pay it off in less than 5 months.
Subscribed! I'm trying to get my daughter to drive my Bolt more since I'm work from home now. Her 2010 Mazda 3 has been rock solid but she works 1.5 miles from home so most days the 12v can't recover from from starting the engine so that has to be trickled charged every 2-3 weeks. The oil can't barely get hot nor can the exhaust so that tends to rot out sooner. Although we can charge at home so once she moves out and kids always spend several years in apartments, it would be pretty tough to easily manage with an EV. I think it will be a few years yet before that gets better.
Subscribed. Very intrigued by this car. Currently have a Prius Prime plug-in and would love to make the move to full EV. Sweet deal for you in the level 2 charger!
Great video, I have owned two Tesla's Model 3 & Model Y, first bought 2017 Bolt Premier, not impressed, just bought 2019 Chevy Bolt Premier, love it !!!
My local chevy shop just put a 2020 (new) LT for 19,995. It has every option EXCEPT DCFC. I bought a used Premier. I hate the review camera. I use the 360 camera on the front about half the time when I park and I love it. My Premier does have the DCFC on it, I have used DCFC 4 times in the two years I've had it. I have an L2 charger at home. Sometimes I have seen 6.2 m/kW.
I totally agree with you, I sold my Model Y and bought Chevy Bolt premier 2020 with 19,000 miles $ 17,000 bucks, I am so happy with my Chevy, happier than with my Model Y, range is 212 miles 80% battery charge, I love it roomy for my wife and I 👍👍😀😀
The Bolt is a great car! Bought ours to try out electric car ownership - like it more than expected. My one caveat: it's a terrible road trip vehicle; it's a fantastic daily driver though.
@@co2free9 Yeah that's the main issue. The Bolts Fast charging peak is 50 kW, which is around 4x slower than Tesla (depending on supercharger). Charging network is also a lot less reliable. I've had not just stalls, but entire stations down when I showed up. Also, those seats are a literal pain in the butt after about an hour lol On a different note - you may already know this - but your car should have a "Teen Driver Mode". Basically you can set one of the key fobs as the Ten Driver key. When that key is used to drive the car it'll do stuff like: auto engage safety features, mute stereo until seatbelts buckled, etc...
I hadn’t ever considered a Bolt until I watched the video. I had been interested in the Volt, but am not finding any in my area, though used Bolts are available. I!m going give this car a look-see. Thanks.
chevy volt lol. got mine for 6000. saved 1500 in fuel this year and has no downsides of a full EV like loss of range in the cold or waiting to charge. best car no one ever knew about
Nice choice. I also have a teenage son who's about to start driving. I Picked up a "20 Bolt-EV Premier back in November because the discounts let me keep my 2013 Volt for my him. I have to say it feels pretty good looking out at my driveway and seeing two electric cars. I do wish the Volt had some of the Bolt-EV's safety features though. Maybe we'll look into getting the B-EUV next year.
I just subscribed. I bought a 2020 Bolt LT in March and I like it more each time I drive it. I just did a road trip from Tucson, AZ to Kanab, UT and back with an overnight in Kanab. At 460 miles each way, DCFC is a must. I found D with regen pedal is better than L for highway speeds and cruise control. I’m 6’3” and have plenty of room. I find the seats to be pretty comfortable. The car is just a blast to drive up and down winding hills and mountains. Thanks for a very informative video.
@@co2free9 The first charge away from home was in Anthem, AZ, 34 minutes for 26 kWh. That got us to Flagstaff, AZ. We had lunch while charging for 1 hour, 31 minutes, 58 kWh. That was enough to get us through to Kanab, about 210 miles. We hooked up to a ChargePoint level 2 charger overnight. It was a short walk from the hotel at the town office complex. The return trip included a stop in Page, AZ, where we jumped on a Tesla destination charger (I have an adapter) at a hotel while we did an overlook of Glen Canyon. Another lunch stop in Flagstaff for an hour, then a short stop in Anthem got us home.
@@jbwaterman I live in the East Side Tucson as well, and I have a '20 Bolt from Oreilly. Thanks for the story on where to Recharge I have Plug Share and Electrify America, Evgo and Charge Point cards. I have done that trip to the North Rim quite a few times in my ICE cars. You give me the confidence to try it in the Bolt. Do you remember the cost of the Tesla Destination charger? I wonder if the Grand Canyon has CCS chargers available?
@Ron Carguy the Tesla destination charger was free! It is located at the Homes2 Suites in Page. Right next door at Baymont is a Charepoint level 2 for $2 an hour.
Subscribed! I purchased a 2019 bolt when they had some really great deals at the end of the model year. I debated getting a Tesla model 3, but in the end spending (at that point) $10,000 more did not make sense to me.
Well then you didn't really do your research LOL but at the end of the day it all boils down to what you can afford because yes the bolt is going to be a hell of a lot cheaper than Tesla but it's not because you're comparing Apples to Apples the Tesla is in different animal all in itself it is the world's safest car with every single safety feature including Lane keep assist with the autopilot the Chevy bolt might have Lane keep assist but unless you compare them back to back you'll never know how horrible Chevys Lane keep assist is
I have a question. If you purchase a used Bolt. How do you know if the battery has been replaced or not? How do you know how much warranty is left on the battery? Thanks
I believe most newer bolts 22 for sure, all had a battery recall and replacement. When in doubt have the service department run the vin for warranty repairs.
$21K OOTD??? Bolt's cost so much more around here. Lowest I've seen before tax, title and fee is about 25-26k and that's with 12K off MSRP - albeit in the middle of a chip shortage.. I did see a 2020 that was $20,000 AFTER the Costco rebate was reinstated but it's already gone.
Leased one mid April and Love it more everyday. Did not think I would like it this much and in hindsight should have bought, either way excellent car. Subsribed
I live in a high-rise apartment building. Until they put in charging stations in the parking lot, I can't even get a Changli. The nearest fast charging station, either Tesla or EVGo, is miles away.
There’s also the fact that my M3 DM eats expensive tires for breakfast, and I don’t track or race it. The cost of tires destroys the economy of electric power. I’m going to get a Bolt EUV. Done!
I drive by Lakeside Chevrolet all the time. You have made very wise decisions. I have been on the fence about ev’s but as you know commuting in DFW is a gas killer. Thank you for the informative video
What do you think of the stock tires on the Bolt? I have a '22 euv and find the stock michelin energy savers spin out fairly easy, thinking about swapping into some crossclimate2's or pilot sport all-seasons...
Hello from Kelowna BC. Subscribed. I have a 2020 Chevy bolt. It’s not cool like a Tesla, but I still love it. Most people have videos showing why they traded in their Bolt for a Tesla, so it was interesting to see your perspective
I LOVED my Chevrolet Bolt. I had a 2021 Bolt on a lease and I absolutely loved it. There were 2 big reasons I traded it in an got a Tesla Model Y instead: 1. Bolt is WAY too small for my purpose. It’s an incredible town car. However, if you ever need to load it up, it is very small and fills up extremely quickly. Model Y is WAY bigger and this was a huge reason for me. 2. If you need to do any kind of long distance travelling, or are unable to charge at home, forget it. If you don’t know, charging is garbage for most vehicles with exception to Tesla. The Tesla charging experience is completely night and day difference. Other chargers like Electrify America are complete garbage and broken ALL. THE. TIME. Like it’s shocking how broken they are. Tesla on the other hand? Never broken. They work flawlessly, and WAY faster. So if those 2 issues are not a problem for you, the Bolt is a perfect car for you. I highly recommend the Bolt. Oh also if you are one that hates Tesla because of all ‘tech stuff’ but want an electric car that just drives and feels like a regular car, then the Bolt EV is perfect for you. Put it this way, I wouldn’t recommend Tesla for your mom or grandma, but I would absolutely recommend the Bolt. Easy and fun car to drive.
Hi there, new viewer to the channel, I have been referred to this channel because you promote an alternative to using gas just like my channel has been putting out solar array information. Greetings from East Texas. New subscriber here. The Tesla Model 3 is really fun to drive, I agree with you on the safety for the teenager with a chevy bolt. At half the price compared to the model 3, it looks like a great deal. Looking forward to more of your content.
just got my used Bolt EV at 27000 miles but a new battery changed in August 2023, so it's basically a new car. Compare to a normal Model 3, same 250 miles practical range, but only paid $15000 out of the door (car price + registration, no tax in WA state), $540 insurance per year....I mean come on, for a commute car, better than Model 3 for me.
I bought a '22 2LT Bolt about six weeks ago, driving off the lot with $25k in my pocket from not buying Tesla. The 2022 is an improvement over the last gen BTW.
In Virginia, EV drivers still have to pay gas tax for the gas they are not using. And that tax is calculated from a gas car, not the "MPG" my Bolt gets.
I’ve had my Chevy bolt for two years, it’s a 2019 premier, every time I get in this car I smile, it really is a fun car to drive ! My only issue with this car from the beginning has been the seats, I never found them comfortable. But that has been the only issue with this car, so I thought since I’m going to keep this car I’m going to fix the seats. I took it to an auto upholstery shop in my area. And now I have very comfortable seats, this was an easy fix !
I have a 2017 Premier. Might point out that Sport mode just remaps the accelerator pedal response. Won't make a difference in 0-60 times since stomping the pedal to the floor takes no significant time. Otherwise I think your review is spot on.
I have a 2020 Premier. I only use sport mode to show others. I actually find myself trying to squeeze the best mi/kwh on a daily basis, almost like a game.
Sorry brother you missed the big sales but I believe the Costco rebate is back on. Here is where I bought it www.lakesidechevrolet.com/VehicleSearchResults?search=new&year=2021&make=Chevrolet&model=Bolt%20EV&cs:a:i=chevy_tier3_2021_Bolt_EV_June21_NTL_Hero_05
We have a 2020 Premier and just love it! We wanted to “dip our toes” into the electric vehicle world and see how we liked it. It is great for driving around town in. The L and sports modes rock! It is fun to take off really fast at a traffic light and leave everyone behind. It is quite roomy for a small car and we like the fact, that you sit up a little higher than a regular sedan. The 360 camera is awesome too. There is an annoying glare on the white parts of the dashboard from the sun and it makes it hard to see the traffic in the side view mirrors. We live in Southern Arizona, where it’s sunny almost every day! Other than that, can’t believe we like this little but roomy Bolt so much!
So what was the 0-60? You never said? And why is your chick so hostile>? Lol She should be timing the run! Im renting one for a month to see if i want to buy but the worst thing ive found is it's limited to 92mph!?? And thats just not fast enough in California. But gret video and subbed!
The L mode is way better than the regen button. Sport mode rocks. Burn outs at 20mph when punching it is awesome. The Giant screen is awesome, the lack of built in navigation or any sort of charger routing is unbelievable, the lack of charging location routes or a GM network for DC fast chargers is unbearable. Don’t get a Bolt without DCFC.
Glad you heard that, it kinda surprised me too. I’m like you and wish they would have incorporated a mapping system in the display. The charging bothers me when thinking about road tripping. I’m use to the supercharging network and it’s been great.
@@co2free9 - if your smartphone is plugged into the car, apps such as PlugShare can be displayed on the center screen. Even Google maps is showing EV charger locations.
glad i came across this video you are a great dad i also did not buy a tesla because of the speed issue and in a few years time my boys will also be driving. no bolts here in hong kong so i brought a eniro been driving it around a 2 months now only grudge i have with EV,s is no one told me the aircon eats the battery more than driving does great video✌
Love the vid can’t wait for gm to replace the battery in my 2022 bolt 1lt I bought so I ça. Take delivery. Hopefully soon Big change for me going from a 2017 Kia Soul luxury ev 27kwto 66kw battery Look forward to more videos
I'm wondering when the car companies are going to figure how to get more service dollars since they can't ding us for fuel injector cleanings and oil changes!
My Chevy Bolt is super fun to drive. Unfortunately I barely remember what it was like because I had the damned thing for less than 3 weeks before I put it in the shop because the heater stopped working and it has now been in the world's worst Chevy dealership (celebration chevy in Colorado) for over 2 weeks. I have fond memories though
I couldn't agree more with you I am on my second one I just traded in my 2017 for a 2022 they've lowered the price quite a bit this car is packing with good stuff same model you're driving once you have one you'll never go back no more oil changes no more 50 bucks a week for gas I plugged the car in after 6:00 p.m. it cost me about $5 a month in electricity to drive this I guess electric rates depend on where you live much lower rights after 6:00 also Saturdays and Sundays are very low kilowatt rate cost the biggest question I get asked how do you charge it you have to pay at a charge station no this will plug in on a standard 110 household current if you want a faster charge you can upgrade at your own cost I'm getting between 2:59 and 300 miles per charge depending on your driving habits I tell you the truth if you ever buy one of these you'll never go back to gas
Question about the bolt. Is a surge protector recommended once you do the 240 outlet installation in your home? Anyone that might know any info is greatly appreciated.
Yup so imagine my surprise when I decided to sell it for this Bolt! I still can’t believe I did it. However I do have a Cybertruck on order so I will be back in the Tesla family eventually. Good memory Jaime and thx for watching.
I sold it to a dealership in Atlanta that found my listing on Facebook but Lakeside Chevrolet agreed to take it on trade and then sell it to the dealership in Atlanta. It’s called an “in and out.” I was able to save sales tax that way.
I subscribed even though I already have a Bolt. I likewise drive mostly in sport mode. That's a good deal on the dealer paying for your charging station. I got mine when I purchased my last vehicle (2018 BMW 530E).
