I had the Christy sole on a pair of moc toe Thorogood boots. They wore out on concrete in no time. I used a leatherman and hand cut treads back into them and got 6 more months out of them. I hope my Chippewas don't wear so fast. They were extremely comfortable though.

I kinda wish Vibram would make a gumlite midsole option. Like what I saw in their channel when I think a Sierra sole was added to a boot that already had the christy sole that was worn out. I’d love to have that option. Lol.

Between the Middlebury 1757 sole and the Roccia 528K sole, which one would you choose? I would like to customize some Thursday Rugged and Resilient Captain boots. I would like a light, soft, durable, bouncy sole with excellent grip. Thanks for your help!

I have worked in the residential roofing industry for nearly 25 years. I do removal and installations of mostly asphalt shingles. I've gone through the gamut of various boots and soles over this time. The one that seems to get the most life for me is the Vibram Christy 4014. But even with that, if I can get 6 months out of a sole I am ecstatic. Do you have any other other recommendations for a replaceable sole that could be as soft on the shingles but maybe garner another month or two of wear? I tend to walk a little more bow legged than most people, due to my body and legs adjusting to walking on slopes on daily basis. So, obviously the outside edges and heal tend to wear quicker, but that is unavoidable. I do wear safety toe boots simply to help maintain the shape of the boot itself a little longer.

I may have missed it, but what do you clean the leather with before adding conditioner?? I really love this old trade, I'm just fascinated by boot repair and the steps and products of shinning them and caring for them. I want a pair of red wings really just so I can rub some lotion on them and buffem out. Boots are pretty Kilmer looking to boot lol.

Could you compare the material used by Vibrams to those made by Crocs? A lot of the success Crocs has had was that it was as good a material for a "shoe liner" as it is as a sole as well.

So there IS such thing as a black wedge sole. I swear I always, and I mean 100% of the time see wedge soles being white and I was beginning to think there was a reason they HAD to be white (kind of like car tires MUST be black for UV resistance reasons)

So between the standard Cristi crape and the 2021 wedge, which one would you say would be more grippy for asphalt shingles, and if neither what sole would you advise?
