Every rifle begins its life as a barrel. We build the rest of the weapon to support that barrel. The task dictates which barrel to select. Purpose Built. @presscheckconsulting3449 @SonsofLibertyGunWorks1
Everything's been out of stock on their website for a long time. I figured they were going out of business till I discovered the youtube channel tonight!
What's crazy is that these dudes are giving game away for free. With all the bad info on the web, seeing these two guys telling us what we need to know, is amazing. Good shit fellas!!
Great video series really good stuff guys thank you To those looking for Sons parts for your next build keep looking and be patient. Things are crazier now than any election year ever before.
im loving these technical videos, can you keep em comin SOLGW? love what you guys do. also thanks mike mihalski for showing up to the VA 2A protest many months back.
The introduction of the 10.3 I read come from the GOV having a surplus of M4 bbls w/204 cuts and they wanted shorter bbls and decided to cut the bbls they had down at the GL groove/shoulder ..
Was looking into getting a SOLGW upper but the new site is so hard to navigate and is way less functional than the old one. Kinda sucks because I can’t even look at the uppers I was interested in anymore. Before you were able to at least part guns out even if they were out of stock.
@@rockerdude8000 exactly! The new design is awful and arguably several times less functional, useable, and easy to use. (At least from a consumers point of view)
As far as distance shooting goes, any size AR is going to be equally accurate within 600 yards and it's your job to know your holdover. My number 1 main concern is terminal ballistics which is HIGHLY velocity based. Even though all barrel lengths from 10"-20"+ are equally accurate out to 600, "some will argue even further", it's a matter of how fast is that round traveling at all in between distances. I could get even more in the weeds about bullet design and weight per application but personally as far as 556 is concerned the 13.7" is the absolute lowest length I'm willing to even consider. I mainly run 16" because I like that I have plenty of options in multiple grain weights that will consistently travel at 3k+fps at muzzle and stay well above the magic 2200fps at practically whatever realistic distance. I love to learn and train as much as possible but I'm certainly FAR from seal or spec standards and don't need that shorter platform they now train and operate on. I can manage a 16" around my house efficiently but still gives plenty of length for outside on our ranch. I'm not trying to make a generalization or anything here but I see far too many people getting wrapped up in putting accuracy and distance of accuracy far above velocity on the priorities list.
Agree. Short builds are "hot" right now, but they really only serve one purpose. If my memory serves me correctly, a 10.5 inch barrel will only cause m193/m855 to fragment reliably at about 50 yards. 5.56 is velocity dependent and if I wanted a shorter gun I'd probably run a different caliber.
If we get an acceptable muzzle velocity from the 5.56, isn't db reduction kind of irrelevant in terms of using a k sized suppressor compared to a fuller length one? The round is still going to crack and produce a noticeable sound signature. In my mind, and maybe not in practicality, a 12.5 inch barrel with acceptable velocity and improved reliabilty, with or without a suppressor, would ultimately be preferable over moderate or negligible db reduction.
Look I have my 10.5 to 12.5 in 5.56 and 300 blk but my sweetest shooter is a bull barreled 24” AR with a rifle length gas that is so soft shooting and I reload and using slower powders Im getting insane velocities…… they all have their place. It however is a bench gun because carrying it around will not work! Fighting rifle wise Ill be grabbing my 16” 5.56 mid length and my 12.5 300 blkout with my tac tx hand loads……..
Thoughts on the statement about rifle length gas systems causing less wear? Still learning build development here lol. Im all about reliability, accuracy, and affordability without sacrificing all the other factors during my build. So when i heard him mentioned that, i knew i had to enter the lions den and ask the question lol. Also any differences as pertains to a .450 bushmaster. If ya got tips ive got my ears open
Rifle length gas systems cause less wear because the pressure at the gas port is significantly lower than the pressure at a carbine length gas port or even a midlength
@@Turambar117 so with that in mind does the rifle length system ever cause issues with cycling. I suppose what i mean is do rifle systems tend to have less wear at the expense of reliability on say a lighter pressure load. Or is the gas system such that there is enough over pressure off gassed anyways that functionality wouldnt be effected if i got a box of weak loads?
@@ryanripley3144 the rifle length gas system as seen on the M16 is actually significantly more reliable than the carbine gas system as seen on the M4 because while the pressure is lower, it has significantly more dwell time which gives it a large window of reliability
Short barrels don’t reduce accuracy, it’s actually the opposite in many cases. 11.5” mid lengths work also, I’ve been running a few for the last 3 years with all ammo types, with or without suppressors.
Yes you are 100% correct and Chuck is a 'try hard' and a 'know it all' except Mike is the one that actually knows everything. A short good quality barrel like a 10.5" or 11.5" will shoot moa all day at 100 yards just like a 16" will but just with less velocity. Shorter barrels are more rigid/ stiffer and have less barrel whip than longer barrels and I've seen short barrels outshoot longer ones up close before. I hate when people say "less accuracy" when talking about shorter barrels. I have a 10.5" POF P415 that I have hit steel at 400 yards at my local range pretty consistently and when shooting a longer barrel I don't hit it any more than I do with the 10.5" granted using the same optics comparing the 2. People are dumb and say dumb shit I swear. Everybody tries to be an expert on the internet.
My first critique would be to lay out those acronyms in long form at least the first time you use them in the video. Not all of us know what those are.
@Phillip Cameron Thanks I appreciate the response. The issue of Dwell time was mentioned in the video. Do you by chance know if an adjustable gasblock could be tuned to get a carbine length gas system to handle like a midlength system?
@@andycaldwell4828 gas block doesn't affect dwell time just the amount of gas running through the system. The dwell time is determined by how long the gas system is. I wouldn't use an adjustable gas block for anything other than a range you because they tend to get carbon locked causing reliability issues, instead I just pick my gas port size based on its purpose and ammo being used so it's properly gassed from the beginning.
Tired of seeing these SOLGW tease videos. And logging in their website and seeing nothing but "OUT OF STOCK". Born and raised in SATX, and would luv a A SOLGW upper at least. Smh
Sons of Liberty Gun Works yeah I got a real kick in the balls when y’all posted about your primary arms 13.9 thing y’all were doing and I scrambled to buy it but they sold out from under my nose. *sad patriot noises*
Chuck why are you talking over Mike?? He is the GUN MANUFACTURER, not you. How about you let Mike speak instead of trolling on his channel for subs lol
Mike on the right is cool and knowledgeable but Chuck is a "Captain Obvious" if I've ever seen one. Damn I wish it was just Mike talking and not that other doofus.
@@TheNuclearhippo1 Get my facts straight? That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. That is completely irrelevant but good for him and I appreciate his service, it's much respected but that doesn't have anything to do with what I said. He's still a doofus in the video and a captain obvious. Just because you had a lot of combat experience doesn't mean you know everything and also you don't have a clue how much combat experience I have or anybody else commenting.
