I agree, it's a random thing without engineering knowledge. And it wouldn't work, because a circle tooth shape is not circle but involute curve. The definition of the involute curve is the curve traced by a point on a straight line that rolls without slipping on the circle. If you do something else that will slip causing abrasion, and quick wearing. Engineering knowledge is necessary when you make a gear. Although this thing could be a cool ornament on the table.
