Almost 100% agree. When looking at this AI question though, I try to ask myself "what would Eno do?" And I think he'd use it in order to get it to do things it wasn't designed for. That's what I'm trying to mess with. But to copy other artists, create hokey songs about erections and pb&j sandwiches? No thanks.
It's insane how close this comes to replicating his voice. There are parts which were a bit of a departure from his vocal personality too, but for the most part it did the job. Even the lush harmonies at the end, I can tell this program has pulled anywhere from the early 2000s to just the last few years for reference. The chord choices, structures, and voicings are certainly in the same vein. It's cool, but that's as much as I'll give it. I don't want to support this, but it's a nice little experiment and should remain as such.
Some of the generated lyrics were very weird, and often the quality of the vocal was odd as well. Also, i just didn't enjoy it at all. It is obvious that it is not written by SW, and is just a crappy copy of a Steven Wilson song.

a long-time PT & Gavin & SW fan since 2003 from Taiwan here, i have to say, this song successfully capture some iconic characteristics of SW's work, the melody / harmony / chord progression, some arrangement like the slide guitar, drum part also sounds something like Gavin would do. i'll easily believe that this song is some SW's DEMO that never publish if you did not tell me it's an AI piece beforehand. this's a good song and a good question, help me to find what exactly i love about music.
It wouldn't be disturbing if it was easy to tell the difference, or if this wasn't a really good song. I'm not sure what to think but it was an enjoyable listen, undeniably.
AI music is an intersting point of debate. What if it becomes SO good, that it actually produces high quality music with depth and feel? When listening to an absolutely astounding piece of music, Is it suddenly crap when we learn it was made by a computer? Is abilty (to compose) more important than the actual music itself? I dont know. Anyway, I've always found solice in that only I can make the music I make. In this case every human being is unique, and nothing can ever take that away

This is bringing US to the edge of danger. What I mean by that is that even what I write now could be turned into a song. I am a die hard fan of Stevens work since I've heard "Open Car". Great , now everyone will start making Steven Wilson music. One of the few things in the world that is special, unique and exclusive is gone. Feed some goddam AI model and it will spit out music. No matter how well it can replicate, you will always know that there is nothing original or inspiring about it.

I still think this is a hoax and SW is really singing the song... Lovely music too! I like it better than the majority of the tracks of his last couple of solo albums. Yes, the music was also created by AI. So as the voice model of Steven Wilson. I guided the whole music by prompting. That's how most AI tools work. It needs a person behind the system to know how to guide its features. The process definitely took me time and energy with a lot of trials and errors and I don't think a lot of people can prompt very well or else the internet should have been full of original AI music from famous people.
I admire the exercise in demonstrating the advancement of AI. However, on a philosophical level, I think there needs to be a striving to develop and create something. It needs to be borne out of strife, trials and adversity. Otherwise, what is the purpose of creating? Just to enjoy it? It's like taking music into the realm of consumption for the sake of consumption. Fast food. The commodification of music. I think the only proper way to use AI is to abuse the hell out of it and create something nobody would ever be able to create because the AI wasn't expressly designed to create it. Other than that, it can all burn up.

well I'm just happy to be able to make music that I really want to listen to. Aside from this one that is highly inspired by Steven Wilson and his music, I'm making really awesome original ones as well. I might share them in the future.
I have to admit: great song. BUT: Where is humanity going? A human being is an individual being, so is music - a NATURAL force. A computer and technical evolution is NOT. Simple as that.
Music is being created with the help of computers for years now. Almost all the instruments you hear in the new songs are digital recordings from virtual instruments or samples. The same amount of digital processing is being applied to vocals as well. This right here I think is just a step in the future in which all of the process is being made easier by computers. Isn't that the whole point of technology? To make things easier for humanity...

And your point of "technology makes things easier for humanity": it already leads to this that children/teenagers don`t even start to practice on an instrument..And believe me it`s true, i`m also an active music teacher. We know that it is human nature to have completely different arguments/perceptions over certain matters but technology doesn`t just do great things for sure....And now i`m back to practicing dude;-)
@@feelxmusic I can see your point but I don't think people would stop learning different instruments. Virtual instruments are there for quite some time and a lot of them sound quite real. But people are still learning instruments. Also let's not forget about live music. People like to see their favorite artists perform live. That's something AI can't replace. At least not anytime soon.

Whilst I might listen to or tap my foot to EDM I consider it to comprise much if any musical talent. Ditto for almost anything created by AI - it lacks talent.

wow this song is better than most of the steven's songs. but very good analysis because the rhythmic values, chord progressions, vocal usages and everything is just like his work. i would definitely believe that it is an original song by him if it wasn't mentioned that this song belonged to ai. wilson should definitely listen to this work!
