I'm so grateful for these videos! I'm a newbie hiker trying to learn everything & a MD section hike is my first big goal. Thanks for the great content and for sharing your journey!
I am so happy to help! Especially help other women who are trying to get out there and do this on their own like I did! Thank you so much for stopping by my channel and checking out my videos. I appreciate your support. Best of luck to you on your MD section hike.
Hello, I like your bottle holder. The one I have is a plastic holder that only fits on the Smart water bottle caps and doesnt fit my usual flask bottles. Also keeps dangling like crazy once the bottle is empty.. Can you share what type it is and where you bought it from.. TIA.. Love tracking all your hikes.. :)
Hey there sure happy to help. I use adjustable shock cord water bottle holders. I have them on both sides of my backpack. I got them from ULA. www.ula-equipment.com/product/water-bottle-holders/
Great travelogue. I'm doing this section hike from HF to Pen Mar this Father's Day weekend 2023. Getting dropped off at that bridge and first day goal is Dahlgren's Campground, 18ish miles. Got plenty of daylight to get there.
Thank you! Back then my pack was too heavy and my gear was not dialed in. 😜Hope this info is helpful in this video series. FYI, that 16.5 mile day on day 3, that stretch at this time of the year doesn’t have much water. Most of the creeks are bone dry and we haven’t had much rain lately. Just know that before this hike so you can plan ahead. MD is such a great section of the AT. Have a great hike and have a blast! ~RVA~
What an awesome first day on the trail! It looked like you were filtering the water, is it not potable, or were you just being cautious? Def understand the scheduling/planning...myself and a few other guys are starting to plan a motorcycle ride to the arctic circle in 2022....exciting!
I filter all water whether it's from a spigot, spring, creek, etc unless I am getting it from a kitchen sink or out of a bottle when on the trail. It's not worth getting sick especially being solo on the trail. Your trip sounds exciting in 2022!
I really enjoyed your first day. You rocked it! We just Hiked Keys Gap through HF to Weaverton Saturday. I plan in doing this section the same as you, NOBO, so loving your video.
Thanks Nick! Thats a steep lil hike with 12 switchbacks up from the C&O to Weverton! But when you have fresh legs its not so bad. Good luck to you on your push nobo! You got it!
Doesn't work! I have had so many people try to help with this pack. It is shoulder heavy. All the weight pulls on my shoulders and won't sit on my hips. It just doesn't fit me right. The shoulder straps are just too big, meaning I can stick my whole hand between my shoulders and the strap. I can't tighten them anymore. It's impossible to get that 45 degree angle on me with this pack. I know several ppl with this same bag, but they are all guys and the packs work great for them. I just don't think the women's version fits women right. I had REI measure my torso size and I am a small in GG 15" to 18" so I need a new pack! LOL thanks for trying to help! Have fun on this section!
Oh wow, that's amazing! It's the perfect hiker pit spot for sure! Ya'll stay tuned to the next video (Day 2) where Charissa Hipp (Hippy Hiker Gal) & Pigtails make an appearance to bring me some trail magic!
This video inspired me to take the same journey but I did it southbound instead. It helped me feel comfortable to try Backpacking for the first time ever. On my trip I felt more comfortable because I saw the same things as you video taped. I didn't feel alone on my solo journey thanks to you and this exact video. Thanks Again!
Aww, this is so wonderful to hear! Yes, most ppl get the hard part out of the way first going sobo, then it's smooth sailing about 1/2 way thru. Your kind comment is why I vlog my journeys. To help others get out there and feel at least a little more comfortable knowing what to expect. Thank you so much for coming back and leaving your comment. It means alot!
Thank you so much Jennifer! It was an incredible 4 day journey! Appreciate the watch. I have day 2, 3 and 4 videos of that if you haven’t watched to finish the story, lol.
Yeah, I am a perfectionist so bugs me when its not quite right. But I have learned with this tent, that its often not right unless you are on perfectly flat ground which with stealth camping, is rare. This video was a year ago, so I have learned to relax a bit more when it comes to the pitch ha ha!
This seems like forever ago but it really wasn't. All the things I didnt know then that I do now. Whew! Ya gotta start somewhere though! I have finished all of WVA and 1/2 of VA now and continuing to head south. Very special memories for sure! Thanks for watching this one. BTW this is a 4 part series of all of MD, just in case you were interested. Happy Turkey Day! ~RVA~
Yes! I tried to avoid that at all costs if I could. Day 2 and Day 3 coming up in my next 2 videos were my longest hikes ever so I knew I wanted to have plenty of water heading to camp if at all possible!
Watched the first part now. i'll try to watch the rest as well. I like your style! So I'll sub. I'm a planner too! And also started doing solo trekking recently. I really enjoy the fact of only having to worry about myself! Cheers and looking forward to see more! 😁
Oh great! I'm glad you found day 1! I have 4 days total (4 videos of this trip) Next one comes out on Wed and then last the following Sun. Wed is my normal day of the week when I always release a video. Thanks for checking out my vlog!
Thank you for taking us along with you. My old knees are keeping me off trail this season. I do have one suggestion: When you are walking and talking, instead of pointing the camera at you, have it show us where you are going instead. Then we will be able to "hike" along with you as you narrate. Happy Trails.
Thank you for watching and for the suggestion. I don't personally like watching other people's videos were 95% of the footage is a green tunnel or the trail in front of them with shaky footage because you are walking and climbing over rocks and videoing and the stabilization of the videoing device can't catch up. I'd rather see what the person is feeling at the moment and connect with the hiker. I enjoy the creativity of making videos/editing process. My video style very much like a thru-hiker and section hiker style with good combination of the views, the trail, wildlife and flora, myself & what I am feeling and experiencing in the moment. After all it is a video vlog about my journey while on the trail. But I appreciate everyone's perspective and input on what you the viewer likes.
I'm thinking about a Cumverland Island, Georgia 3 night 4 day hike sometime in February 2021. If interested stay in touch. Send me your email and I'll add you to the group list.
@@SeniorHiker77 I watched a previous Cumberland hike your group did! I think Icebear, Crow, Follow Walkers World might have all been with you. Of course I would be interested! That area looked so beautiful! Keep me in the loop!
