This video is from a quick overnight in to the Tahoe National Forest where I was just trying to get a feel for the area in the early season. I was expecting a lot more snow on the trail but was surprised with how fast the snow is melting in California. Join me while I explore around Lake Spaulding and Fordyce Creek.
Leave No Trace
Easy out and back trail around 7 miles long, great for an easy overnight.

Cool! The rocks were high enough facing the lake to hide it, but don’t get caught with a campfire. They REALLY don’t like that up here. 👍
@NickInNature

Really? According to the Forest Service website there is no fire restrictions in place across the national forest at this time. I hope I'm not mistaken as I always try to follow rules and regulations. Thank you for your comment I'll look into it.

@@NickInNature It’s a standing order in TNF, year round. Were you in a yellow post site? If so, I didn’t know they had them up here, but other than designated recreation sites with fire rings, it’s a huge no no. I personally don’t mind, I was referring to the rangers not liking it and citing all who disobey. There’s a bunch of details such as equipment with a shut off valve, jellied stoves, etc., but open fires in rock rings have been prohibited for several years now. 👍
@NickInNature
@NickInNature Месяц назад
@@garygolfer3243 Well I gave the ranger station a phone call this morning. They said that might have been the case during drought years. However, the fire order was dropped in October of 2023 and hasn't been introduced again. He advised me that fires are allowed at dispersed camping sites as long as you have a fire permit. Happy hiking!

@@NickInNature HA! More Government crappy information! I’m not surprised 🙄 The supervisors office says they were lifted in December, someone told you October, the website still says prohibited year round, and to top it off my friend Jeff was cited in late November of last year! The old right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing syndrome. So, by trusting the good old internet I’m four months behind the info loop. I’ve got my permit and heading to Bowman next week before they change again as fire danger goes up this summer. Have a great summer, maybe I’ll see you out there 👍

💛...beautiful site/sights...i've always heard it called 4-dice creek...also, try to keep a lower profile when casting...i've camped (minimal hike-in) at blue lake (shallow, no fish) which is above the north end of spaulding ...it was chosen because one of the guys in the group couldn't hike far and he had a dutch oven he wanted to try out...let me tell you, peach cobbler (among other things) is outstanding cooked outdoors...
@NickInNature
@NickInNature Месяц назад
Truly was! Yeah I may have pronounced it wrong, never been to the area! Good tip! I saw that lake on the map and was interested, no fish though that's upsetting. I've had it while camping, I'd imagine cobbler backpacking would be delicious! Thanks for watching and commenting!

You are welcome for the table ! We set it up last year. FYI, in the summer that spot has a surplus of spiders that come out at night.

@@NickInNature Took my boyfriend on his first backpacking trip and some point while we were hanging by the fire at night I needed to use my headlamp and as soon as I shined the light THOUSANDS scurried away. Needless to say my boyfriend was done hanging out and wanted to go to bed immediately. There are some other really incredible spots out there to camp, our group goes out frequently. Have you checked out Island Lake further up Bowman rd in the Grouse Ridge area? HEAVEN. The road is pretty rough but highly recommended! Great video, I’ll give you a follow.
@NickInNature
@NickInNature Месяц назад
@eleanorgene_wanders That's actually terrifying hahaha. I went a litte further upstream and there seemed to be a nice camp with from what I could tell far less spiders. Yes, I have been up that way a couple times! I love Island and Penner Lake. Although I normally start out of the Carr lake trailhead never been up to grouse ridge.
