The third and final day.. There is not much to say other than MOMMA WE MADE IT!
What an all around great adventure! It is so very seldom that expectations brought to the trip are met and then even exceeded! Every minute of this trip was made well worth it. The planning, backpacking, fly fishing, camping, and hiking could not been any better.
But with a trip like this you need to come prepared. I hope this video will help to paint a better picture of what to expect and maybe what to bring! Planning for trips like this can be difficult and every resource should be taken full advantage of! I am nothing but an open book and would love to help y'all out with any questions!

I understand you passion young man. I lived at Vallecito Lake, about 2mi's from the Weminuche trail head, locally known as The Nuche (and yes you did pronounce it correctly), for 17yrs and those memories are at the top of my 70yrs of living and I thank God for allowing me to live there. Continue to seek out your passion in life and thx for the great video's.

This video was a great idea man! Very helpful for people who may not have much experience doing this or haven't done it yet. I agree with all your points. So important to be prepared "for everything". Two additions I would have (and if you did mentioned these, my bad).....I carry an Inreach unit as well, but I always send an itinerary of where I will be on each day to several family members. Another thing to consider carrying is a bite/sting kit. You're paranoid of bears, I'm paranoid of snakes and big ass wasps 🤣. Loving the content man.

Awesome video, Mike! A true joy to watch what you have put together. I’d be down for some longer-form adventuring videos. And that bird in the beginning is some sort of Grouse, I believe a ruffed grouse!

Thanks for the video Mike. I too am obsessed with backpacking I have spent many times five six seven eight days at a time solo I love the solitude fly-fishing 🎣🎣🏕️and it's important to get the knowledge out to people whether they be beginning or intermediate.. I too am fortunate to be the bachelor with extra money to do and chase after my passions.. Hike on!

@@FLYALLSZN well my friend you keep up the good work if I could make any suggestions one would be to think about getting yourself a dog that is very well behaved and doesn't Chase off after things mine is an Aussie to me is the best dog. can also alert you of things and most of all best friend and loyal companion and dog packs!. Food wise get into dehydrating a lot of your own things..

Just watched your video. Great job! Entertaining and informative. Felt those 10 miles rt in sandals? 😬👍 Looking forward to my next high alpine fishing trip. Usually the only time I look like a dry fly hero!🤣 I need to fish more mini leech patterns too! Thanks.

I've fished for years in the Smokies, which are known for bears; I've never had a problem with one while fishing. The closest I came to an "incident" was when I startled a young cub on a trail - he took off like a scalded pig. I had my head on a swivel for a while after that, looking for mama bear. I can understand wanting to carry the spray - there aren't too many weapons short of a high powered rifle with the stopping power to put down a charging bear. I have a .357, but it would be more to protect myself from any 2-legged disagreeable "fauna" than from a bear or other large animal. The spray is pretty much a necessity further north, in Grizzly country; btw, the last known grizzly in Colorado was killed not far from there, in the South San Juan Wilderness, in 1979 - it's speculated that if any grizzlies are left in Colorado, it would be somewhere in the San Juans.

Same for me Ian. I fish the smokies several times per year. Several bear encounters, none scary. Always carry bear spray and I carry a 10mm for the same reason you mentioned.

Great series Mike, the idea of a confrontation with a bear scares the crap outta me. Just curious, how many shots do you get with bear spray? Is it one and done? Keep up the good work.🇺🇸
@willdykema
@willdykema 3 года назад
sometimes just spraying toward the bear generally will startle it and stop a charge, but if it decides its going to attack you offensively you get one spray and often that doesnt stop them from ragdolling you a bit. Bear spray stops deaths from grizzlys 95+% of the time but about 60% of the time that bear spray is used you still get mauled/bitten/clawed up a bit. So yeah, one shot because youre supposed to empty the can until the bear stops but that can be like 8+ seconds of spraying.
@FLYALLSZN
@FLYALLSZN 3 года назад
Trust me when I say.. It is not fun.. It depends on how much you spray. If you pull and push its like any aerosol spray. I am fairly confident you could have multiple sprays within an interaction. But you would most certainly want to get a new spray after using once.
