All the downed trees are from a windstorm a couple of years ago in December. Red River registered a wind gust of 102 mph, so higher at altitude. Estimates were 300,000 trees downed. We arrived about a week after. It was major devastation. Questa is pronounced Kwesta.

Enjoyed the video! Going to Red River next week. Last time there was 31 years ago. Camped near the Midnight Mine in a small ground tent. Great experience!! Columbine is by far the best of the developed National Forest campgrounds in the area. If your not looking for the solitude Greenie Peak or the top of the old pass road, then Columbine is a gorgeous spot with a roaring creek and a wonderful trail for some serious hiking.

so on my way from Louisiana to Colorado i was driving hwy 40 through new Mexico from Amarillo tx and seen a trail off the hwy with a sign that said good night loving trail, i looked it up and showed it was an old cattle trail that went to Colorado and to Utah areas. was wondering if you know anything about it. i been looking to see if its open for overland rides. think it be a good time to overland it . but below is the information i found on the web. The Goodnight-Loving Trail began at Fort Belknap (Texas), along part of the former route of the Butterfield Overland Mail, traveling through Central Texas across the Llano Estacado (Staked Plains) to Horsehead Crossing, north along the Pecos River and across Pope's Crossing, into New Mexico to Fort Sumner. The trail then continued north into Colorado to Denver, and was extended on into Wyoming.[1]

Note to self; when traveling in treed areas bring the chainsaw. Ignore if desert bombing… Do you have any experience with the smaller electric rechargeable chainsaws? I’m a landscape photographer and I’ve never really enjoyed visiting the known photo sites. To many people and congestion for my liking. Been thinking on a Jeep for several years as a means of getting further away from pavement to improve my photo subject matter, just haven’t had the means to afford one yet… Great that you’re traveling solo, so many RU-vid channels seem to feature groups of off roaders. Do you prefer the Gladiator to a closed Wrangler?

At 10:40 why didn’t you use your winch and pull it down? I’ve pulled many a tree out of the road with a chain or my winch

I’m glad you mention the sway bar. I’ve been meaning to ask you since i recently got a new rubicon gladiator. Do you have a tazer z or do you just drive in 4 high on these mild trails to unlock the sway bar?

Matt could you have used a bottle jack near the bottom of the tree or pulled it out of the way with the winch? Only asking for learning purposes.
