So, I love how you say "truth be told, I eat better out here than I do at home", so me and my dad went out to our hunt camp one night, 4 feet of snow, got stuck 5 times on the snowmobile, took us nearly 3 hours to make a 35 min journey, we made bacon/onion topped steak, a lipton sidekick, and some carrots grilled in bacon/steak juice. Man I swear that was the greatest meal I ever ate in my life, nothing tastes better than some good beef after a long hard trek into a camp. Top it off with some beers, man there ain't anything better in life.

I think it’s great that you are teaching these skills. In the 60’s, all of this was basic survival in the Boy Scout handbook. A generation has lost those skills. Thank you for bringing them alive through your videos.

hey Corporal Kelly have you done a TeePee ? I'm curious how it would do. i think native Americans had it figured out with a teepee because your fire is inside the tent and it's shape sheds snow well and if anchored well enough could probably handle decent amount of wind. i wonder if anybody makes a lightweight packable teepee?

Followed your sub recommendations. Funny story: Once in Afghanistan, my Infantry battalion was on a refit back in Baghram. As was a group of Marine grunts. Some high speed individual with more rank than common sense decided it would be a great idea to put on a flag foot ball game between Army and Marine grunts. Well, it wasn’t “flag” football and it lasted all of about 4 plays before we were all on the field whooping each other’s asses. Good times. Good video, as always, Devil Dog. Carry on!

As someone who went to girl scouts as a kid solely to learn how to camp/basic survival skills, and was deeply disappointed by the whole "hey let's make crafts, snacks, and go "camping" (aka just sleep indoors in sleeping bags) " stick... I'm so glad I was finally able to find your channel and learn these things as an adult!

I like the shelter you built and it looks good enough to last a year or more and by using the trash bag to fill with leaves to sleep on is a great idea and having leaves around the outside of the shelter is a great idea also. You have good food to eat while out in your camp and won't starve with all you have. I love your grill you used to cook on while in your camp and how great your meat tasted.

Metric is easy, Just do not convert it. Just like hand grenades and shot guns. 250 ml is 1 cup = Close enough, LOL. Go from there with the knowledge of American measurements. If you are not baking your golden. If baking all liquids are 8 lbs per gallon, that is back to American= 8oz per cup...... Chef Mike

Most shelter builds are done in warm dry conditions on yt. I appreciate that you are out there in damp cold environment, building realistic shelters. Kudos for that!!

Hey Corporal, have you ever made one if them self feeding fires? With the loges stacked in a V at a 45 degree engle so when the center log burns out, the next one falls in place.

The amount of time and work involved in constructing this shelter is an excellent testimonial to the tremendous value of carrying a 5x7 tarp for emergencies.

Another great video. If you wrapped some tubed crescent rolls dough around those sausages, you would have the military sleep system of pigs in blankets. Will definitely try this on my next camping trip. Your way of instructing is amazing. Keep doing what you do sir and thank you.

Thank you for showing your knots up close. I haven’t seen to many if any of these types of channels do this. We tent camp in the off season on the back side of YNP. We always put up a tarp because it’s MT and well snow happens anytime if the year 🤣. I always need knots to get the tarps secured. Great video thanks 😁

Next to being out in the woods, there's nothing like watching one of your videos on a cold night, with a cup of Joe warming my fingers.

I was out this weekend and got way cold in the hammock so I built a lean to with a wind block and hung an emergency blanket to reflect my heat in worked awesome and my son got to learn. Thanks corporal!

Shawn, I'm 65 Years old now. I tell people that " I'm a Cornucopia of Useless Information" as a way to get them to listen to Me, "The Jester"!!! I happen to be one of those "Crazy People" who Really Enjoys Math. I'm still bothered by the fact that when I was in High School someone shared a "Fraction Shortcut" that Everyone in the World Should Know and No-One ever shared before that day! " To find what Half of Any Fraction is, Just Double the Bottom Number" I was Furious that No-One Shared that Info. So, At the Beginning of this video you paced off the distance between the two tree's for your shelter. I'd like to share with everyone that if you reach out at Shoulder Height, From Middle Finger Tip to Middle Finger Tip will measure just about as tall as you are. So, for you that measure is about 6'-1". Quicker than Pacing off. I hope this helps someone out there with some info that they didn't have Yesterday!

I looked throughout your Amazon store and cant find the pullover your wearing in the beginning and ending of video. Which one is it??? Another very important question. I was never in the Military, college wasn't in the card so i went to trade school, CDL and Equipment Operator. How do YOU feel about guys like me wearing military logos on clothes??? I never want to be accused of "Stolen Valor" type situations. I was partial to 10th Mountain Div and have many hats n shit that never get worn. When i was young my mindset was not the same as it is now and regret not enlisting. Thanks to you and all Vets. Thank you Dad who was in the Coast Guard.

I remember well the first lean to a couple of friends and I built. It was 1983 and I was 14 years old. We were very proud of that lean to it stood up to some pretty rough weather. Thank you for sharing this it brought back some great memories of my youth.
