SOLO SKIFF, My Designed loading and unloading system

This is my designed system for being able to load and unload my Solo Skiff at the beach for surf launching or at boat ramps. Using my design means not having to remove the outboard, fuel tank or any other items except what would not clear a truck bed rack such as I have. It was very inexpensive to build and I can winch the fully loaded Solo Skiff onto the bed of my truck just using one hand. Many friend and others who own or are on waiting list to get a Solo Skiff asked me for assistance in how I set up my Solo Skiff and how my ramp and winch work so they can make one for their Solo Skiff. Many trips to La Jolla I would just get to rapped up in unloading or loading after fishing that I was always forgetting to film the process so I finally did it at home since the bad weather conditions that have been around and worse coming, kept me from getting out to La Jolla for more than a week now. That sucks! My driveway has a slant for water drainage and it made it harder then when I do it at the beach. I think that I was able to show what was most important and it there are any questions, please ask then in the comments. If you haven't already please, LIKE and SUBSCRIBE. Thanks for watching. Tight Lines! Here is the link to the Deckmate seat and the link to the swivel base. www.deckmate.com/collections/... www.deckmate.com/collections/.... UPDATE December 2023. the current San Diego Solo Skiff Distributor is California Skiff, contact Mikey throught an email at CALIFORNIASKIFFS@GMAIL.COM

Hi, Mark, Great video. Great Solo setup. Question did you build or buy the sun visor for your Lowrance? I don’t have that nice a Lowrance, but hard to see on sunny days….what kind of material? Thank you in advance.
@markr9312
@markr9312 2 года назад
Thanks, I did both, I had first made one out of an old snow tire cable chains plastic box. Then after about 7 months I broke down and bought a Berkly sun visor, they are a bit better designed. I just took some $.

Yeah the Solo Skiff is a blast and total game changer. As to purchasing one, there is a back log of order and some like our local shop has stopped taking deposits, because the manufacturer is having problems trying to increase production. Possibly used, i have seen some listed in Florida and Texas before. Check for local owners club, they would know if a member is going to sell. Tight Lines.

Hey mark I had a question. So the closest to the solo skiff I’m that’s available to me is the hoodoo hero 130skiff. What’s your thoughts on this skiff it comes with 6hp motor. I wanted to get out to fish oil rigs and jetty’s and break walls harbors in ocean? What’s your thoughts?

@@freshsaltyfries5078 I have not seen one in person. I have questions about strength of the hull since it is 42 lb lighter. Does it have the foam inner layer throughout the interior. The front hatch and possibility of lave well. Here is a utube video link from a Professional Kayak fishing guide that actually owns a Solo Skiff and in this video checks out and gives his opinion on a Hoodoo Hero 130 that a friend bought. This should help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vfosw1cJsrU.htmlru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vfosw1cJsrU.html

Thank you mark. It’s made with a single Piece Rotomolded Polyethylene and there is 2 or 3 foam blocks inside the haul when you open seat/storage. Video was informative👍

Great review. Can you add a link to that swivel seat you have? I found it. DeckMate per your video.
@markr9312
@markr9312 3 года назад
Correct, I think I had found it on Bass Boat Seats .com, but when I tried to search I found a better selection and price at the Deck Mate web site it's under folding bass seat and available in different colors and combinations. Like everything because of Covid19 the price is higher. I found it from as low as $40 which was what I paid about 1 year ago and other sites had it for $60. The plastic swivel / detachable base is $10-$20 depending on which site. It's awesome because it's lighter and less bulky than a lot off Bass seats and much better for the elements on getting wet often. Here is the links for the swivel base and the folding seat. www.deckmate.com/collections/boat-seat-pedestal/products/plastic-seat-release . The seat www.deckmate.com/collections/fishing-boat-seats/products/rt3?variant=30946774155339. One one site the seat is $10 more but the swivel base is $10 less. So it ends up the same and this base has an easier release for removing the seat from the base.

@@markr9312 Looks like a great, lightweight option for the Solo Skiff. I have a Solo on order but Austin Kayaks has no idea if they will ever get more. I might buy the seat just in case they are discontinued while I wait.

Hey what setting you find works better for your motor
@markr9312
@markr9312 3 года назад
@@fernandoamparano7984 Thanks for asking, I realized too late that I had forgotten to mention that. I have tried it on multiple settings since the first time I used it. I found that for me, the best on the Tohatsu 6hp outboard is the 4th hole from the transom is the best. The 3rd can work, but what I found the hard way, is that the closer to the transom the more likely the sharp lower edge of the bow will knife when hitting a small wave or chop. The knifing effect can sometimes cause the Solo Skiff to make a sudden change in direction, that can be very dangerous. On my second trip out, I was coming back in the jetty in Mission Bay here in San Diego and as I'm going 15 mph full throttle, without realizing, it knifed a small swell and literally made a U turn. I almost fell off, because the sudden movement pulled the tiller out of my hand and I was almost falling off the side. I managed to stay on and as I try to reach the tiller, I looked over my shoulder to see were I was going. At that point I see I'm now heading to the big boulder on the jetty and they are maybe 25 yards away. There was no space to turn back, so I kept turning to the right and back towards the center of the jetty. It was scary because I got as close as 10 yards from the boulders while still going full speed. That was a real pucker moment. I had the GoPro on and when I watched the video, there was no warning before it made the sudden U turn and I could see the wake the Solo left and could not believe the it had made a U turn as tight as 10'-15'. I talked to another Solo owner that had a Suzuki motor and his outboard had one less number of holes on the trim adjustment. It would depend on how flat the water is were you use it. I would recommend try the 3rd and then move it to the 4th in the same area so as to see how it works based on your weight, seating position and amount of gear you carry. I much prefer that it planes good. When I come back in to the surf zone and have some following swells gaining and passing me that blade part of the bow can still catch some as it speeds up down the front of the swell. Tight Lines.

@@markr9312 ya i fished with you and nick and we both have it on the third pin but im curious to the second pin but i might try the 4th pin im about 220 so curious to get my top speed out of it
@markr9312
@markr9312 3 года назад
@@fernandoamparano7984 Yeah, I tried those different settings to see if speed would improve. What I found is it has more to do with the water surface condition. It is slower when it's calm and flat and faster when it is slightly choppy. I think it's because when it's choppy it's skipping over the top of the ripples and when it's flat it displaces more water. Also thought that maybe a change of propeller pitch/size might help, but they cost like $90 and not having an accurate tachometer makes it hard to know if the engine is actually reaching full rpm. Also it might loose power on take off, so I decided it just wasn't worth the hassel. When we fished SD Bay it looked like we all had the same speed on the Solo's.
