Out of all the various camp stoves I’ve tried, Solo Stove is the winner! You can burn anything in it. It’s not dependent on gas or anything that could run out. There’s different sizes, light weight, cools fast & takes a beating. I use it all the time. I put fire-starter in a baggie & put inside so it’s always ready. They had a BOGO sale one Christmas so I got a few. LOVE SOLO STOVE!

The silver part of the lid on the alcohol stove pivots and can be used like a damper on the stove--as well as a snuffer.

First of all, Alan and Jason, you guys are doing an outstanding job. Secondly, I just checked and yes, TOAKS makes a titanium stove similar to the Solo Stove for around $40 on Amazon.

I like it, it's like a mini charcoal chimney. Seems to have better airflow than most hobo type stoves I see on the market.

I bought an Ohuhu stove some time back, and it's a gassifier stove like the Solo is; secondary burn of gases, and very efficient. It comes with a small pan for alcohol if that's what you need to use. I tested it on about a pint of water with some Sterno chunks (I didn't have any denatured alcohol) and it boiled in about five minutes. The day I tried this was a rainy day, and my fuel was wet. It still burned, but it needed constant attending, as you stated before. I was feeding it so much I didn't try a pan of water on it. I need to get that little stove out again some time. I purchased a SRO alcohol stove and it works very well. It does fit in the large cup I have, or a billy can. It seals up and will not leak, even with a full can. Great product.

Nice setup. I have tried many but now I go with the Firebox Nano stove Titanium. I have used it with twigs, esbit tab's right on a removable plate and even my trangia fits inside of it. If I wanted to I could also use a butane stove made to fit inside of it as well. Even works on the full size Firebox stove. Throw on a grill and cook your steak. Great vid guys!

This is exactly my setup. I primarily use the Solo stove with sticks, but I carry the alcohol stove and a small bottle of denatured alcohol as a backup for wet wood situations.

You guys produce great videos! Thanks! You had great twigs! Some other thoughts on the Solo: Like any fire, start with tinder and dead dry softwood twigs like pine. Once you get your stove started with soft woods, add dead, dry hardwood twigs and shavings such as oak, maple, etc. until the rocket stove is operating primarily on hard wood with occasional addition of softwood twigs. The bigger (finger size) hardwood sticks will burn hotter, less smoke, and make the gasifier / draft work much better and the fire will burn much longer without maintenance. Also, with dead, dry hardwood your boil time, once the gasifier is fully functioning, will be greatly reduced - 5 - 8 minutes. An added bonus is less tar on the outside of you pot. Remember, rocket stoves burn from the top down - not bottom up. Thanks! David Presnell, Author "Survive Until The End Comes" and "Sudden Survival".

I started canteen cup cooking with my daughter, during the plaque, just to spend time. We moved up thru the ‘jelly’ cans and Esbit to denatured alcohol. I tried the simmer/snuffer cap but ditched it. On or off is fine. We carry in haversacks so for now it’s Military type canteens, cup, and grill. I might try cylinder setups later.

In reference to 3:38. Yes there is a titanium version. It's called the Una Stove, made by Suluk46. He makes a mini at 1.96oz which is $190 and the standard at 2.8oz which costs $200. Yes, I have been eyeballing the standard Una for several months now. Currently in the process of getting the credit card paid off from other purchases. #priorities

Been waiting on this! I have the Esbit alcohol stove but I really like this for when/if the alcohol runs out and I’m in the woods. Sure, any of us can make a fire and cook with it, but for speed/low signature and convenience I don’t think this piece of gear can be beat. I see Alan upgraded from the flask to the MSR bottle haha, guess it’s time to up my game also. Now I want to see an off the land recipe from y’all cooked in that, maybe squirrel stew with some wild edibles?

Refill a Heat bottle w/denatured alcohol....it will hold 16 oz. no problem and is lighter than bottle shown. I keep 2 Esbit tabs in the alcohol stove for emergencies and the heat bottle in the pack/water bottle pocket.

Toaks 750ml pot with a bail and lid. Inside of that the Toaks wood burning stove, the small version they have two. Inside of that the snow peak h200 double wall nesting cup for you hot beverages and inside of that the Toaks siphon alcohol stove. All nests together in one pot the size of most nesting cups that fit your standard nalgene bottle

The "snuffer" is a _simmer ring._ You push the top sideways to choke down the size of the opening at the top to the right size to simmer.

What about anodized aluminum? I hear they are lightweight and can survive the heat?
@alexandergutfeldt1144
@alexandergutfeldt1144 3 года назад
The pot can, since it is ~cooled~ by whatever you are cooking. If you built a stove, like the solo stove, from aluminum, it would get destroyed by the heat when burning wood.. it would survive being used with the trangia clone.
@melissahoffman4687
@melissahoffman4687 Месяц назад
Don't put sticks, and pellets passed the secondary combustion top holes, or the stove won't burn as efficiently with smoke, and soot. You'll have a cleaner burn keeping fuel below the top holes. Pouring denatured alcohol is another way to start the fire with wood on the very top.
