Well that seems like a delight, paddle/fish/repeat. Looks amazing in there. Does that area see a lot of canoeing or fishing pressure? As well what does the acronym KHA on your canoe stickers mean?
Thanks for checking it out. It depends on the season lots of people float the river in the summer but winter is quiet. The spring that is the source of the river runs into a trout hatchery. There is a trout park there that is popular but the rest of the river is pretty quiet in the winter. I didn’t see another canoe while I was there. KHA is the sticker/permit that is required for the lake I live on.
What a gorgeous Winter reprieve! Peaceful, nice water flow for canoeing, cool air, and quiet river banks. Nice job setting up the camera. Surprisingly nice Smallmouths. The trout are stunning with the spots, I can't tell the species. Cold camp, of course, but the fire is wonderful. Good to kick back, enjoy a good long near-solstice sleep, and revel in the joy of solo travel. I've got a 0° bag, but I do have to wear warm clothes in the bag when it gets below freezing. I guess they rate bags more on "survivability" when they say 0°. Enjoyed this video, along with the Eagles. Thanks as always.
Thanks for watching! Those were brown trout though not as colorful as some specimens I have seen. I like that 0 degree, it packs down as well as my 20 degree bag and is way warmer so I may be looking for one of my own soon!
Browns! Thanks for the identification. I love the Eagles, but Kingfishers are cocky little hotshots as well. I have a Mountain Hardware 0° bag (Bishop Pass model), but I can't recommend it. Zipper seemed to work well in the store, but it jams too much, very hard to zip the last six inches or so, darn it. Also, the stitching is ripping already, only had it for this past season. Darn it. The down fill is good, and the lining is good, but I'll look elsewhere once I get to the point of total frustration. Have a great and safe holiday and waiting for another great video.
Missouri has some if the best rivers. Current river is great. Check out Markem Springs! It has nice camp ground. Fabulous camping. Big Springs is a beautiful spring fed river, its my favorite river! Big Springs and Jacks Fork has the clearest cleanest water I ever seen. That green stuff in the water is watercress.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the sub. Yes, I used Jadwin Canoe. They were great! They shuttled my car so I was able to start my trip on my schedule. Just dropped a key off and paid in the morning on my way to the river.
Tyson, I really enjoy watching your Soloschmitty videos. The scenery is awesome and the information you provide is so informative and inspiring. Great job!
Nice trip, looks like a pretty productive smallmouth fishery with trout mixed in. Like that you tried fishing with the fly rod :) it's my favourite way to catch fish.
Thanks for watching! Ya there are a lot of nice smallmouth streams in the area. I’m a an amateur fly fisherman at best, if I can’t catch trout on a dry fly then I don’t have much of a chance. Thanks again for checking it out and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
@@DerekSOutdoors you would have torn them up on the nymph! I almost switched over to a streamer because there were guys catching nice browns on 5” jerkbaits. Just ended up leaning on the rooster tail because I know it will work. Subbed your channel, gonna watch some tonight.
