In my country, the Netherlands, stores are not allowed to give free plastic bags anymore since 1,5 years. Now everyone takes their own bag, so simple. But still there is a lot of work to be done.

That is a tiny progress! How you guys sell detergent, shampoo or anything that requires a bottle? Plastic needs to be biodegradable and not produce in massive amounts and for that we need to stop overpopulating the world! Nobody wants to talk about the real issue.

I was introduced to this video as an ad and I felt compelled by it. Yesterday, I read a National Geographic article talking about plastics in the ocean and I have to say that banning plastics could go a long way.

It's so sad seeing the animals, ocean, and environment like that. I've been working on being zero waste. I'm halfway there but food (frozen fruit/vegetables in a bag, bagged salad, etc) is challenging for me to replace. It can be done and will be done very soon, I got my partner on board to being zero waste, now it's action. Blessings 🧡💛💚💙💜

I agree with everything that was said in the video. Disposable plastic is a big problem and we can handle it. We can start now, replacing plastic packaging with glass packaging, for example.

No solution banning things, such old school thinking. We have these things for a purpose. Make it from other materials. Hemp biodegrades after a year, easy solution for many plastics

How does that much plastic end up in our oceans? The only thing i can think of is cruise ships that could possibly generate that much. I have heard they dump all their garbage as they travel. We should come up with some creative ways to repurpose it. Also just going back to using glass for milk jugs & soda would be helpful as u can re-use glass like we did in the old days + it taste better too. Yes its heavy to carry & a hassle to clean to reuse it but worth the effort.

Barbara McCoy Yes, glass is the only solution. Extremely easy to clean, just run hot water, and it will shine. They should pass a law ,banning plastic, with violations ticketing.

You can distill the plastic back to diesel fuel. 8 pounds of plastic will make 1 gallon of fuel. There are many solutions and hemp is one. The petro dollar will not let that happen.

Wow great idea to distill plastic into diesel. This is off the subject but i also worry about all the oil being taken from the earth & i think thats why we are having so many sink holes. My mother needs her roof patched where the shingles blew off & im wondering if it could be patched with plastic? Does anyone know if that would work? I was thinking the thickness & flexibility of a 2 liter soda bottle cut to fit might work?

it is amazing how people some throw their rubbish everywhere without thinking and it is not like can't be recycled it is easier to do so than glass. the problem is many throw stuff on the floor and thinks at that point it is somebody elses problem, the second you do that you have made it every bodies problem.

i am seeing this in action already mcdonald's India now give uncovered coke cups with cardboard straw. It's not as convenient but the right thing to do. If people stop demanding the cheap convince of plastic slowly all the sources will stop using plastic. The vegetable vendor near me also stopped giving plastic bags as people started bringing their own bags.

What about Oxo-biodegradable plastics? They are completely absorbed into the environment to no ill effect? We have to make plastics work for us. Not the other way around.

I think a big problem is simply that people who do use plastic do not dispose of it or recycle it properly. I bet most of the stuff in the oceans is simply from littering, not wind blowing bags or bottles off of landfills or recycling areas into rivers and oceans.
