The comma three is 4th generation custom hardware designed to live in your car. It has dual cam 360° vision, plus a narrow cam to spot objects far off in the distance. The three 1080p cameras have 120 dB of dynamic range, two generations ahead of a leading electric car maker. It's as connected as a cell phone, with WiFi, LTE, and way better high precision GPS
Comma Three is a piece of aftermarket hardware that plugs in to your car and is mounted to the windshield. It runs Comma.ai's custom software, Openpilot. Openpilot is easy to use and works similarly to your regular adaptive cruise control. Simply press a button on your steering wheel and It enables your car to steer, accelerate, and brake automatically within its lane; and it does all of this much better than your car's default stock system. Openpilot is similar to Tesla's Autopilot.

Openpilot does not make my car fully self-driving; I am focusing on driving 100% of the time and ready to take over any time.

Their driving visualization approach is so much better than Tesla's FSD, imo. I wish tesla would do something similar instead of having to recreate the whole world around itself once more with visualization. Wasted GPU resources.

So cool man. I can't wait to get it on Monday. I sent it back during my 30-day trial in 2020, but with the improvements, I can see the price justification. Especially for the comma 2.

@@LetitDrive Honda Civic 2020. Openpilot was worth It even back then with version 0.7.7 I believe I was running. I kinda regretted sending it back but was didn't know about the low torque issue. But now I get to experience the excitement all over again haha. Cheers!

Thanks for the information. Is 2021 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid a perfect car for the Comma 3? I don't know anything about the torques. What is the minimum torque for the maximum use of the Comma 3?

Hey, Rav4 would be great choice. But please check compatibility before purchasing the device and car harness.

Two questions: 1. How does the device handle hot climates? It gets up to 110 deg F in my area for days on end in the summer and I don't want to have to pull it out of the car every day. 2. Can it function as a dash cam at the same time? I have a dash cam mounted in that spot and would not want two devices there.

Hmm just bought a Honda Odyssey touring 2022 , do you think comma 3 will be a good idea with it? I've used the stock ACC and it's fine, but I'm sure it'll be a nice upgrade with the comma

think of it as Honda Sensing on Steroids', it gets annoying for you to keep your hand on the wheel, just pay attention ready to react if need be, and chill.

Driving highways you'll get best out of Openpilot. Thanks to improved automated lane centering it's really relaxing and satisfying drive. But You need to check from comm.ai if the C3 is compatible with 2022 Odyssey.

Does the device also record, allowing it to be used as a dashcam if needed?

You're able to access your drives. Online, once they're uploaded - either via wifi or if you comma prime and upload a low quality version through LTE or by pulling the files right off the device itself. It's a driver assist/autopilot first, but some video features are just side products of that. The video itself is just that, only video. No audio, no MPH, no timestamp, no GPS indication. If you're okay with just video, and accept the limitations of that and its access, I'd say the Comma is okay by itself. C3 will not do parking recording.

i'm in the same boat, i have 16 civic sedan. i heard the steering torque is weak, but can be hacked. i'm clueless when it comes to coding. right now i don't think i drive on the highway enough to make the comma 2 purchase. definitely would be useful in my college commuting years

Regarding the stock ACC question, the Comma team is developing a vision only adaptive cruise control, which hopefully means that we will eventually be getting Openpilot ACC for cars which aren't yet supported. I was going to buy a Honda Civic but changed to a Toyota Corolla Hatchback as it is the most compatible with openpilot. I hate that Hotz refuses to have a trade-in option for comma 2 supporters like me who installed just before the comma three surprise announcement. :(

Openpilot is Level 2 driving assistance. The driver must monitor the driving and be prepared to intervene immediately at any time if the automated system fails to respond properly.

Until comma launches the new features, buying the new model is not a good move imo. The way autonomous driving technology is developing carmakers might themselves bring in these features in next couple years like we saw a smartphone boom 2008 onwards. Comma should have launched the features first and then revealed the product

I think they need to collect more data with the Comma Three. Then they can train new models and give out new features. I have read new comma three owner experiences and they see overall better driving performance compared to comma two.

@@LetitDrive If they want to get more data, i think they should not have priced it double of comma 2. Comma is a fledgling company and they could have focused on making their product better first. They aren’t too far from carmakers new lane centering and ACC. Tesla has moved way ahead by introducing full self driving in city. No doubt comma is an excellent product but the launch of comma 3 with no significant feature compared to comma 2 doesn’t warrant its price. Rather it deters people from buying except enthusiasts.

custom hardware is not cheap and i honestly think the value is still there but you are right in part that it is a bit of a gamble buying the product without significant features already released or demonstrated.

If this is a better system than Tesla's or Cadillac's, it is not still very safe to rely on as self driving sytem. I 'll wait for improvements.

Drives needs to be ready to take over all the time. Its rather Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Please check the comma.ai/faq and "What are the limitations of openpilot.."
