I have had mine installed on my 2021 rav4 hybrid for a little over a week so far. I've only actually used it for about 80 miles so far.. pretty happy with it. However, during the day I have to wear my sunglasses because it apparently has trouble seeing my eyes and yells at me for it. Yes, I verified that I'm being seen with the camera just fine, and it works perfectly at night.

Whatever you DO NOT waste your money on the comma!!! I'm sure it's just as cheap and nasty as the Comma 2 which started failing just after a year. 2kAUD down the drain 3kAUD down the drain if you buy this one. Plenty of other people with the same issue on reddit and discord. Crappy 1 year limited warranty with barely any support. Even their support page says we won't help you if they think it's something you should be able to fix yourself. Their online help they refer you to is a discord which has a similiar mindset...smh
Hey there, I got all the help and support both from Discord and via email, no issues there, took few days. Comma promises the new Comma 3 is more reliable vs previous model. Comma 3 isn't based on phone, custom built hardware But YES, like I said in the video, at the moment for 100% tech illiterate person this product is not suitable. Glad they offer 30 days full refund.
@@LetitDrive I got useless support from both email and discord. I mean who uses discord for support for starters. It's a joke. I work in IT and even updated their software to include my cars fingerprint but there's not much I can do about all the software and hardware issues this thing has. If you're going to sell a 2000 product you can't just expect people to work it out themselves and ignore them half the time. Also needs better warranty because it's the cheapest possible hardware which multiple users complain about. SMH
@@andre824 For me they are outrunning big car companies bigtime and its fun to see how they are growing. But true, for new users lack of information can be an issue and it may be confusing to track down every little detail. Luckly they are hiring a head of communication. As much as I understand G.Hotz's gola has never been to get mainstream.
Correct me if I’m wrong but as I research I’m reading there are affordable vehicles with all the full self driving features as say the Tesla for 20k as technology been available since 2016. The question I’m asking myself is why would I buy comma ai if you still need to purchase a vehicle in the 20k range to make it work for the open pilot features. so far as I can tell just buy a 20k self driving vehicle with all the features installed instead of the comma ai plus the vehicle which will add to same thing right?
Hey, If we compare Tesla Autopilot Vs Comma.ai Openpilot, then both of the systems have pros and cons. Tesla Autopilot is ready to use and user-friendly but for "self-driving" experience Openpilot does better work IMO. Openpilot installation is not suitable for non-tech user and software is still experimental. Driving is not a game, like with Tesla Autopilot You really need to understand system limits to prevent having a fatal accident. In all systems You, as the driver, are responsible for driving the vehicle. All vehicle features are assistive! For all Comma.ai supported cars Openpilot provides a better experience than any ADAS stock system. Here's the list of supported cars: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md#supported-cars
Oh ya, I definitely had the "dashcam mode: car not recognized" when I first started it on my 2021 Rav4 Hybrid lol. Just took some unplugging and plugging back in (even had to flip the USB C input 180*).
In your case, it was because the ECU f/w info (aka. FPv2) wasn't making it through to the final "OBD-C" connection... "empty carFw", which is different than the usual missing fingerprint scenario 😉
I used an early model for about a year or two, I stopped using it because it was messing with my car battery and I had to replace the battery several times over a 2-3 year period. I liked using it but I don't really miss it.

Thanks for the video man. I have the same car as you. Do you know if they have VOACC for our cars yet? I have been holding off buying one for this reason.
If I buy a Comma 3 for an electric MG4 in the UK - is there any guidance on how I can get this car supported, is there a "todo" list of things that I can follow to track and trace CAM codes and map them.
Hey Kevin. Thanks for watching. Openpilot works both in city and on highway. Driving in city takes extra attention - more cars, pedestrian, bicycles etc. Openpilot is not replacing the driver and system has its limits. For best city driving experience I would recommend car which has Openpilot ACC, No ACC accel below: 0mph and No ALC below 0mph. Check this link: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md I would pick Toyota Corolla :).
Hi, just curious that do you take to comma down when you park your car in the public parking lot? Do you afraid that someone may break your window for this expensive 'dash cam'?
Hi, sometimes I remove it, but depends where I park. There are some acasion where user got they comma stolen. My rear and back windows are tinted, gives little bit more safety because car interior is darker. (Some companies offer security film for car windows, takes more time to brake in.)
@@LetitDrive I still waiting for my car! Because of openpilot, I decided go with the corolla hatchback lol. But due to the chips shortage, the car may take 2-3 months to arrive :(
Rather hardware issues. My Comma 2 is no longer working. I'm thinking to get Comma 3 but first I need to buy car what works best with Openpilot. List of supported cars: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md#dont-see-your-car-here
I see that you have blind spot monitoring on your 2019 Civic hatchback but this is not part of the original honda safety to my knowledge. How did you manage to get this?
Best cars for max openpilot* experience are here: ACC: openpilot No ACC accel below: 0 mph No ALC below: 0 mph Steering Torque: ⭐ github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md *Also check the required safety package "Supported Package"
It basically is auto steering control. Even if you have a fully compatible car, it does not do blindspot monitoring, slow down for traffic lights/stop signs, or make turns onto other roads along your route. Its best use is on the highway. As far as I know, you generally need a car that already supports lane detection assist (if you drive over the road lines, it beeps and tries to center you). Most of these cars don't have lane centering, so you can give them that ability. And, for cars that already have lane centering, from what I've seen on youtube, the comma can make them better.
Without Openpilot cars stock lane keeping assist would just ping-pong between lane lines. With Opnepilot its not ordinary lane centering, it can handle the roads without lane lines and the system tries to estimate where the road goes etc. Road without lane lines: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvlyDWTFOVc.html I don't get Openpilot ACC (longitudinal control), Gas and brake are still controlled by car stock radar. But Openpilot adds ACC auto-resume, when driving in traffic jams / stop-and-go traffic.
@@LetitDrive any idea if open pilot now replace the civic adaptive cruise control? Also, are there anyway to make the lane assist resume from a stop? I'm planning to buy a 2018 Civic or the KIA Ceed as we don't have much open pilot supported cars in the UK...I'll appreciate your response...
@@oscarobierefu9660 hey. Check the list here: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md For best OP experience I would go with Toyota Corolla or Camry. My Civic 19' is mostly good only for highway driving. :)
Why is Honda Accords not on that recommended list? I have been saving for the new 2.0 turbo version for a while with the intention of adding Comma 3. Can you explain why it’s not ideal?
Hey David. For highway driving Accord would be great. But if to max out Openpilot experience for mid-sizs vehicle I would pick Toyota Camry Hybrid 2021-22 - much better steering torque - stock Acc is replaced with Openpilot Acc (pros and cons) More info about each vehicle Openpilot limits/capabilities: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md Toyota/Lexus github.com/commaai/openpilot/wiki/Toyota-Lexus Honda/Acura github.com/commaai/openpilot/wiki/Honda-Acura
