Welcome to the Let it Drive channel. I'm interested about self driving cars. Especially Comma.ai and Openpilot. Please subscribe, share, and comment!! :)

You're able to access your drives. Online, once they're uploaded - either via wifi or if you comma prime and upload a low quality version through LTE or by pulling the files right off the device itself. It's a driver assist/autopilot first, but some video features are just side products of that. The video itself is just that, only video. No audio, no MPH, no timestamp, no GPS indication. If you're okay with just video, and accept the limitations of that and its access, I'd say the Comma is okay by itself. C3 will not do parking recording.
Hello All, I am new to Openpilot Community. We have a 2023 xl SLT Yukon. Is there a possibility that Comma 3 could be installed? It has LKS and ACC, 360 cameras and all. I am mainly looking for Lane Centering
The metric isn't "better", it's "cost effective". 40,000 people die on our highways every year and we don't care enough to save them because it's not cost effective. We already know how to let people survive bad wrecks (see NASCAR). Until self-driving technology is cheaper than just replacing the people who die on the highways, it will continue to be a niche product.
@@LetitDrive It's not real self-driving. If you've got to be alert enough to take over, then you're not saving any time. Not cost effective. If you could spend an hour a day doing something else while the car drove itself, the feature would pay for itself in a month or two. As is, the level 2 self-driving that Tesla (for example) offers is a mere toy, a curiosity that saves neither time nor money. Waymo's auto-taxis are level 4, but you can't buy those yet so there's no way to measure cost vs. utility. We'll know the feature is worth having when the feature can actually save time (level 4 self-driving minimum) and when insurance companies start giving rate discounts for cars that have it.
Cmma openpilot is an open source driver-assistance system. Currently, openpilot performs the functions of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Automated Lane Centering (ALC) for compatible vehicles. It performs similarly to Tesla Autopilot and GM Super Cruise. openpilot can steer, accelerate, and brake automatically for other vehicles within its lane. The driver must always be able to immediately retake manual control of the vehicle, by stepping on the brake pedal or by pressing the cancel button. When openpilot is engaged, a driver monitoring system actively tracks driver awareness to help prevent distractions. The openpilot system disengages if you are distracted. Drivers must keep their eyes on the road at all times and be ready to take control of the car.
@@alexgameplay3300 Installed device has eyes monitoring system. For safety I keep my hands on the steering wheel all the time. These videos are for demo only.
@@LetitDrive any idea if open pilot now replace the civic adaptive cruise control? Also, are there anyway to make the lane assist resume from a stop? I'm planning to buy a 2018 Civic or the KIA Ceed as we don't have much open pilot supported cars in the UK...I'll appreciate your response...
@@oscarobierefu9660 hey. Check the list here: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md For best OP experience I would go with Toyota Corolla or Camry. My Civic 19' is mostly good only for highway driving. :)
If I buy a Comma 3 for an electric MG4 in the UK - is there any guidance on how I can get this car supported, is there a "todo" list of things that I can follow to track and trace CAM codes and map them.
Drives needs to be ready to take over all the time. Its rather Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Please check the comma.ai/faq and "What are the limitations of openpilot.."
Nice to see openpilot/comma working in Europe :) Greets from Poland. For now too expensive for me to buy it (taxes, fees, bleh). Maybe someone want to sell/re-sell this hardware in EU in the future.
Hey, thanks for Your comment and hello from Estonia. :) My Comma Two broke down and at the moment I drive with Chinese copy of it - Mr. One Kit. It was around 300-400€. When I get more compatible car I'll order Comma Three. Their new lower price is 1499 USD. comma.ai/shop/comma-three
I've owned my Comma 2 for over 3.5 years. In year two, the fan went and the unit shut down. I removed the factory fan and installed a small 80mm computer fan wiring it direct to the car's 12 volt power. I also painted the exterior white which cut down on the heat absorbed from the sun. The second problem was the GPS system went on it. While not needed for the Comma 2 to operate, it does give a green box error message that takes up most of the lower part of the screen. For over a year I ignored the message and the Comma 2 worked just fine. When Comma AI announced the Comma 3, I was hesitant as the price of $2K was a bit much. When George Hotz left the company for Twitter but came back and cut the price to $1400, I ordered the Comma 3. I understand that future firmware updates will allow for stop sign and stop light abilities. I also hear that the GPS on Comma 3 will allow the Comma 3 to self drive routes chosen. I hear that as it is an open source firmware, people are working to increase the abilities of the Comma 3. Was the Comma 3 worth getting after having the Comma 2? ABSOLUTELY. The video capabilites of the Comma 3 will allow for future updates. The Comma 2 is no loger supported by Comma AI...which is to be expected. It will still work with the final firmware version. The Comma 2 fan will eventually go on all the Comma 2's out there and the GPS shutdown is also a well know fault of the Comma 2. I use my comma's almost all the time. Best purchase other than real estate that I have ever made. Highly recommended. Thanks George Hotz!!!!!!
Automatic distance, gas and brakes (Adaptive Cruise Control / ACC) are Honda's stock system controlled. Openpilot only takes over steering. Depends of the car make and model if Openpilot can take over control of ACC, please check the table and "ACC" (my Honda Civic is "Stock"): github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md
Stock autopilot should get some improvements from FSD beta sometime later (not sure when that will happen though). At least that's the plan since Autopilot is still using a production version that hasn't been updated as often as FSD beta.
3:45 This is not legal driving in most states. The guy has earbuds in. Having any kind of buds/headphones can distract you from hearing other sounds, as a driver. (Not sure if you were just ignorant of this when picking video clips, or maybe I have found some kind of easter egg you intended to be funny? 😁)
You can make it yourself: github.com/commaai/neo/tree/master/car_harness Comma.ai:"Buy it here or build it yourself. Harness connectors are open source."
Hey, thanks for watching! At the moment I think not, same with pedestrians. I wouldn't relay 100% for Openpilot. Driver must always stay focused and be ready to take over.
I have a 2021 Honda Civic Hatchback; do you recommend this product after your fair use of it? I've been following Openpilot and George for a while now, but hesitated since my car model doesn't utilize the full functionality vs. the 2022 model. Thanks again for your detailed vids!
Hey 👋, Thanks for watching! It really depends of your everyday commute, if it's more highway driving I would say go for it. Also Comma.ai dropped the price, Comma Three now starts for 1499$ + car harness and they have 30-day return policy, You can try it out. 😉
@@LetitDrive Thank you for the info. Yes, I read about it also when I was doing my research. I was going to wait for the support before I purchase a Sienna, but It's been two years, so I decided to buy a 2023 Sienna anyway last month. I'm still hoping that OP will be able to crack the security key in the future. At the moment, I am using Toyota's Dynamic Cruise Control and LTA stock software. Below, is a video to try the stock Toyota software, and it's not too bad as a stock. So last week, I took it for a road trip, 1000miles total . I probably used it for about 65% of my highway drive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pqT-zX0cl9o.html
From comma.ai/shop Vote for making openpilot support Toyota Security 100$ Comma.ai: "Once we get 500 votes, we have 6 months to figure it out and open source a solution." At least Toyota's lane keeping assist is much better compared to stock Honda Sensing
@@LetitDrive " At least Toyota's lane keeping assist is much better compared to stock Honda Sensing" . I totally agree. I have a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid that came with the Honda Sensing package. It is 100% useless. The ACC is limited, it has to be above 50mph, but the camera is pretty much blind. So using it at over 50mph and it can't even detect lane markings, is an absolute accident risk. To make things worse, the steering torque is very limited too. Highways has to be straight, or I'll end up on the other lane.
@@mc333777 Did you attach a weight to it to not get any steering wheel nag? I was wondering why it wasn't nagging at all until I saw the attachment lol
Comma.ai: We make the comma three devkit and develop openpilot, an open source advanced driver assistance system. We're bringing Autopilot like abilities to cars on the road today like Hyundais and Toyotas (200+ supported cars). openpilot enables your car to steer, accelerate, and brake automatically in its lane. The comma fleet is thousands of drivers and over 90 million miles driven with our hardware. • Over 50% miles are driven by openpilot. • 50 million miles driven engaged. • Completely free and open source. • The only thing you can buy today that stops at red lights and stop signs besides Tesla FSD (costs 10x more). comma.ai/
I have a stock 2018 Acura RDX Advanced and just testdrove 2022 RDX. It did exceptionally well on gentle interstate curves but just like my 2018 RDX tends to drift over lanes on main street, country and state roads when curves are sharper trying to drive me into a ditch and kill you. I was suprised that 2022 did not have it fixed. Do you experience across lane drift with OP on your Honda?
Hey, steering torque is limited by Hondas/Acura EPS software and Openpilot can't over run these limitations, it's same with my Honda Civic, I have accepted it and always be ready to help car out with sharper curves. Example Toyota/Lexus will perform better with these road conditions.
Hi thanks for the informative video. Could it work with Mitsubishi Outlander 2023 SEL at Canada model. it doesnt have LKA but LDA is present along with adaptive cruise !
Rather hardware issues. My Comma 2 is no longer working. I'm thinking to get Comma 3 but first I need to buy car what works best with Openpilot. List of supported cars: github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md#dont-see-your-car-here
With good conditions it can drive hours but the driver must always be able to immediately retake manual control of the vehicle, by stepping on the brake pedal or by pressing the cancel button. When openpilot is engaged, a driver monitoring system actively tracks driver awareness to help prevent distractions. The openpilot system disengages if you are distracted.
