Solving the Costco YELLOW GOLF BALL MYSTERY!

I cut into a yellow Costco golf ball and I couldn't believe what I saw... The core and mantle were different from the white golf balls!
Was it simply a factory color mistake, or is there a performance difference in the yellow golf ball vs the white golf ball?

Just a pure guess on my part (maybe a Costco associate can give us some inside information on the sly). Costco goes to third party product manufacturers. They may have used a different manufacturer for the yellow ball. Since these were released well after the white v3, that would be my guess for the differences anyone may be noticing. Great video. Thanks.

It would help if you alternated yellow and whites while you hit and then grouped them by color, so in case there is swing degradation from fatigue, it would be reflected in both balls.

Espon salts to examine the core position, but must be a system to test each balls compression. Some form of hand clamp you apply compression to a pressure then check using calipers. I would love see what the true out ofthe box compression is? Kirkland should be 86 comp same as prov1.

The molding department where i work uses different color cores in items that are marketed to be the same. The different color cores are so we can keep track of which machine (out of 4 machines running the same exact part in different colors) the cores were made on in case one machine starts cranking out defective units.

Maybe yellow uses the older version urethane outer cover, based on comments about significant scuffing. I think Costco fixed that issue on the v3 white ball, yes? A thinner or softer outer shell that might lend to the slightly softer feel of the yellow one…

I play a lot at a rough little muni where it can be easier to lose a ball, so the lower price of the Kirkland's suits it well. I got the yellow in hopes they would be easier to find. To me, it seemed like the cover showed damaged quicker than I remember of the white.

Love your content Gabe. As I was watching your video, I was wondering if you could ever do a video where you compared your GC4 with a Trackman and talk about the differences and why one might be preferable to the other. Depending on who you listen to, people strongly prefer one to the other. Also, it always seems to be one or the other when you go to the big shops. Example: Golf Galaxy - Trackman, PGA Tour Superstore - GC4, 2nd Swing - Trackman. I trust your opinion and would find that content super interesting. What do you think?
@LetsPlayThru
@LetsPlayThru 8 месяцев назад
If I can get my hands on a Trackman then I would absolutely love to do that. Both have their advantages and drawbacks. I like the portability of the GC4 and the trackman is great when you’ve got enough space. GC4 has better simulation option, Trackman has better stat reporting. Both extremely accurate.

I was very excited to see your review as I just bought the Costco yellow ball last week and I have played a couple of rounds with them. I prefer yellow for some reason I see them better. I have always said if Costco come out with yellow balls I would never need to purchase any other other brand for my skill level. That being said I think the balls are a bit to green I prefer the color of Sirxion and Calloway but not enough to pay the difference. Also they did to seem to scuff easily. Of course that is due to the urethane cover I' sure. Performance was great! So yes for me I can't see any reason to use anything else. Thank you so much for your channel as I really enjoy and value your opinion. keep up the good work. One question. Do you have a way to actually measure compression? those numbers really just show that they are probably the same ball.. 5 shots a piece is no where near the data to see a real difference. Those numbers were all so so close .. same ball. Gabe, soft compression = lower spin. That is why the Callaway super soft golf balls are one of the lowest spinning on the market. So your hunch about the yellow balls being softer seems to be borne out.

Wow I’ve been strictly playing the new kirkland v3 balls both white and neon yellow and had no idea they were different! I thought I was only playing the neon yellow because of the color but now that I think of it, I definitely subconsciously preferred the feel of them too! When just messing around at the house and juggling them around or what not, the neon yellow always felt nicer. Makes sense that they are a little softer. Now looking at both in front of me, they forsure feel slightly different. Very interesting observation, great review.

Thank you Gabe for doing this review and clearing up the matter. Basically unless you have a robot hitting the ball for consistency, the numbers that you showed are absolutely normal for a human testing and it depends on where there was hit on the club face as well as another guys swing could produce either more or less spin and produce even different results possibly some of them identical with both balls. So any differences were so minimal for the average golfer I would say with robot testing there likely would be almost spot on the same. Is nothing to worry about here, there’s no point in people being critical about splitting hairs. It’s a great product and for the price if it bothers them… Let them go pay for the pro V1 or something else that breaks the bank

Sounds like they had an accidental upgrade haha. The firm feel of the white ball has always been the one thing i wish they would soften up a touch. Also find it interesting that the internal coloring of this ball looks almost identical to the Titleist yellow AVX, which is coincidentally just a touch softer than the Pro V1, which the white Kirkland is always compared to. PS, softer compression leads to less spin, so your assumption there was backwards, which is why you were surprised by the reality of that in the results.

Nice test and review. But…. I no longer use Kirkland golf balls. I stopped using them for over a year now. Reason: they will not last a round-not even a 9 hole round. The surface gets damaged too easily and the ball has to be replaced, even twice on the same hole sometimes. People offer me found Kirklands or I find them myself. I just throw them back in the bushes. There are plenty of more durable golf balls out there that still have the soft feel and control that we all like.
