SureStart is legit! Got my pro yesterday, engaged over 30 times, and not one false start. I can't tell you how many times I got left behind or looked stupid at a stop light because of my replacement GT footpad. Now I can fully enjoy my GT. Thanks TFL!
If I was future motion, I'd be tempted to sue these guys, from the moment you mod a safety measure, modifying proprietary technology you endorse the responsability in case of accident, lets say this delay in front sensor results in board crashing on the road killing few people driving a car, who is responsible? As much as I agree to right to repair, this is something else.
@RusticRaver Sounds like something FM would say. Doesn't matter because FM has gone and implemented a similar feature in their new firmware update. Personally, I don't use FM Posi and keep it disabled since TFL Surestart has AirSense, a feature that FM does not.
Adding a tip.. When programming the two features via the left and right sensor, you have to program both before power cycling. Otherwise the settings get deleted and it revert back to stock when entering programming mode again Steps should be: 1. Enter Programming mode 2. Tap left sensor however many times to your timing preference 3. Press both sensors simultaneously to lock in left sensor setting 4. Press right sensor however many times to your timing preference 5. Press both sensors simultaneously to lock in right sensor setting 6. Power cycle the board and it should now have both settings saved Repeat steps if unsuccessful
We should be able to use the footpad as a password input to have the Onewheel lock and unlock after power cycling as a safety anti-theft measure. Could you add this feature?
@@destruxandexploze2552 Definitely a way for sure. Just if people really want something, they can and will do it. Yes, deterring the desire is good and effective. I think the idea to have this option is fantastic don't get me wrong. Just a pessimist at times.
I've got about 300 miles on since I installed my Sure Start GT and it's by far the best upgrade you can make IMO! Makes drops, bonks, sketchy trails so much better with the consistent and reliable engagement 👌👌
Plz look at one of my videos in my channel I have a onewheel pint,I have a problem with it when I turn it on it has red lights and unable to ride a long time plz help, what do I do?
The install mechanism is so clever and the ease of installing is amazing! I'm no stranger to tinkering and soldering sensitive electronics but this is just great engineering and makes it super accessible.
This is so sick 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 False starting or the board disengaging when shifting weight while idling can be dangerous for city riders, I'm glad that'll become a thing of the past 🥳
I think I can hear some angry noises coming from Santa Cruz, which makes me happy. What an incredible product and great engineering! Especially for such a seamless integration for such closed source product like the OneWheel
I really love my standard SureStart! Going to buy a Pro model as soon as they’re out. Also FM sent my board back from repairs once with the gasket stretched and pinched so I’m rocking the badger gasket on that board now😎
This is UNREAL. This thing seems like a necessity for even basic riders. I ride pint and I have put TONS of little felt furniture feet all over my sensors to stay active. It works really well actually. But I'm always seeing that blue line when dropping. That drop timer is a genius idea my friends. Love you guys
I picked up a PintX with 17 miles for only $750. With accessories, their receipt says they spent $1850. 13 miles later I'm getting the orange light of death which I suspect is a sensor code. I disconnected and removed the front foot pad and it boots up fine, no orange light. With the PinX still on, I proceeded to connect the sensor, the light then indicates the left sensor is engaged without me pressing it; when I press the right, it free spins. Should I remove the extra plastic on the sensor against the wishes of Uncle Sam and Aunt Karen or just install a Sure Start? I already have 4 XRs, one of which will become a VESC; so I need another OneWheel money pit like I need an extra hole in the head. I see you have WTFs, Kush, and Enduro available for the PINT also but I don't know which is more viable financially. A kitted out PintX, a GT with GT-S $850 Hub or just get the GT-S and throw bangs and dubs on it? Obviously I need the PintX functional, but if I throw a grand at it, I'm less likely to get a GT-S and just kit out a used GT instead.
@@TheFloatLife I sent a video of it to a friend in Oregon, all of a sudden, it fixed itself while filming. Initially, it booted orange. I disconnected the sensor, then rebooted. After 10 seconds, I plugged in the sensor and all of a sudden its a solid light instead of the "left pad activated" light. Free spinning off of my workbench, when released, it now stops, when prior I had to hit the button to disengage it. That's only because I connected the sensor after booting initially. The only way to shut off the board after free spinning was with the button. Since rebooting a dozen times, it seems to be fine, but you and I both know that after I screw the pad and bumper back down, it will turn orange again, sooner or later. At least I know what it is and I can now justify dropping money on rails, tire, front/rear pads, etc. You know how it is... Then again, of course you know how it is. All drug dealers know how it is. The difference between having this conversation with my Stoke Dealer vs. my Drug Dealer; at then end of the day, I have something to show for my expenses from my Stoke Dealer, and my stoke addiction funds the Float Ranch. Circle of life... 😁 Edit: Fully assembled and working for now... Is there an aftermarket alternative for the PintX front foot pad? I have the platypus front pad on an XR. I've ridden enough to know how to dismount without the heal lift.
My Pint X left sensor is stuck again. I know because if you connect the sensor after turning on the PintX the left light is locked on. When I briefly tap the right sensor it goes "full tilt" if you are a GenXer, "full send" if you are a millennial. I don't know how it knows but it does... 😂 Then you have to disconnect the foot sensor cable or press the power button to get out of Ghost Mode. I think it's a factory settings... 😅 Anyways, should I replace the whole footpad sensor, with the new FM wooden one they recently released, install a Sure Start P®O, or both? I have already removed the extra sheet of plastic when it locked up on me months ago. Thanks again guys!
Clean/simple design, straight forward directions, and easy install. Though I wish that where Jeff says "... and once thats done, your bumper goes on.", he instead says "... once thats done, your stock bumper goes in the trash and your new BANG bumper goes on."
So I own a SureStart standard. Unless I’m missing something it looks like today’s firmware update with custom shaping added to the Onewheel app has made the standard SureStart no longer necessary since it gives the option to make the footpad single zone?
Not really. It depends on what features you're looking for. The new custom shaping has a permanent posi setting, but there is no time out to switch back to two zone so you either have to choose between a two zone with a heel lift or a posi with no heel lift. Sure start means you don't have to choose
If you watch the Onewheel video explaining it and test it out as I have your reply is not accurate. Single zone does have a timeout and heel lift/simple stop still works. Custom shaping also has a setting to change the reengagement timing like the sure start does. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not knocking your product. I have loved it, and you guys are always great. Reason I ask is that since I no longer need the sure start with the new custom shaping it would be in my best interest to remove it. Nothing specific to your product. It’s just best and safest practice to remove any unnecessary mods when it comes to electronics. Additional hardware and software just creates a larger risk of failure, which of course in the case of a Onewheel could lead to injury. If I’ve missed something please let me know
I can’t believe how good this is! This has changed my board so much and it’s made riding so much more fun! Without you guys one wheels won’t be the same. Thank you so much for what you do. ❤
I CAN JUST GET ON! I CAN JUST GET ON THE BOARD AND THEN IT GOES! I DON'T FALL OFF WHILE IDLING ANYMORE! THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER! (I shoulda watched this first tho, picked up a gasket AFTER the install 💀)
I almost got rid of my GT because of the awful sensor engagement. I decided to give the SureStart a try...cannot speak highly enough of this product. It is a night and day difference getting on the board. Everyone with a GT needs this.
Just snagged one! I have a pair of shoes that activates my GT pretty well but not always and any other pair it’s frustratingly bad. This might be the most important mod available for a GT.
Pretty cool, Still on my XR, but that wheel is really nice with all the little fine tuned settings. Good job on the chip creation, electrical motor control has sooooo many options coool guys
Tony says boards will ship out third or fourth week of the month, and that shipping will take around month. So people will start receiving their boards near the end of March
Will it work for my pint. I have justva pint and have spilled so many times. I actually just got out of the hospital from fractured my arm from It deactivating. Wasn’t even going fast was right outside of my house check in the mail. Will this work on the plate as well as it does the other ones?
17:06 Ehhh it kinda goes back to stock. Diagnostics mode reverts everything back at zero but factory disengagement delay is around 1-2 milliseconds. Try doing a drop with the disengagement all the way at 0 😂 it’s not fun, I spent a whole day messing with it
I just ordered a surestart. I hope the update did not bugger this out. Been needing to get one for a while now. Tired of having to wear specific shoes to ride the board lol.
@@Da0yster That is an excellent point, and I should have been more clear. It is important to know the exact formulation of dielectric grease in use, because there are many different kinds. Usually silicon based dielectric is fine for use on silicon rubber gaskets and o-rings. Compatibility of use information is usually found on the tube, but if not, check with the manufacturer before applying. Don't want to be like that guy from onewheel riders, sealed up his controller plugs with a liberal application of blue loctite. 😬
Yes, yes I do need this...especially after getting dumped multiple times on those flat kick footpads. BUT, I also WANT those rails... couldn't stop staring! 😍
Seems like this will be my next purchase for the kids’ GT’s, however I do have one question: I’d think this would void the Ow Warranty however besides that, if we do install this mod is there anyway that OW would know this was ever installed if we had an issue w the board and it had to be sent back for warranty repairs, obviously we’d uninstall this mod before sending it in for repair!!! But if we uninstalled the mod, sent in the OW, would they be able to tell the mod was ever installed, meaning within their software?? Be nice folks, not everyone who owns a OW mods them like crazy and hacks the software!! This just seems like a mod that’s worth installing especially for a newer rider!!! ^now to save up some moolah so the Mrs and I can get our own GT’s!!!!!!
Just bought a gt after recall today, as a newbie rider I fell hard due to nosedive at lower speed. Would a flat footpad+surestart fix the sudden disengagement while moving forward? Thank you for saving my life!
I don’t know how I missed the boat on this amazing product but I am buying this today. Stupid question: does the scraper and alcohol wipe come with the Surestart Pro or do I need to get my own? Thanks TFL, as always your shit is the best shit.
Man I wish this came for the XR too, or some way to add simple stop to the XR. Too bad onewheel doesn’t keep the XR and just call it a classic and just update the guts
Would this fix a pint where the temperature sensor prevents the board from starting? Diagnostic reads 60F but then flashes yellow and gives the temp alert on the phone app.
Installed originally a little over a month ago. Initially had to remove the coating and clean really well but the first install worked fine. Tested with light procedure. Rode it for about 25 miles. Took a break. Now I’m trying to ride it again and the front Footpad is now NOT one sensor and I’ve turned it off an on numerous times to test but yeah it’s not working now. Took the board apart , currently cleaning it heavely again. SureStart is pushed all the way down to connectors, wires are correct. I’ve cleaned this thing as good as it’s ever going to get and scraped the coating. I feel like I’m just scrapping the blue Device provided now. What do I do cause it’s not working??
Working on trying to remedy this same exact issue. It’s most likely due to your controller or more specifically your foot pad pins. I’ve emailed TFL, they gave me a return label to send SS back for them to inspect. They ran it in their shop board with no issues and tested it saying it all checked out good. I too scraped and cleaned my pins vigorously. I’m now adding a small amount of solder to the foot pad pins to hopefully extend them and make better contact. Just email TFL. They have great customer service. Commenting on RU-vid isn’t the most resourceful way of getting help.
