Propaganda has no place in the Democratic Republic of Somaliland. Somaliland knows how to solve its own conflicts unlike the so called Somalia. There has been peace and stability in Las Anod since 2007 when Somaliland recuptured from the tribal built state of puntland in Somalia. There has also been development in every side which has been carrying out the Somaliland government such as building hospitals, schools, infrustractures, over 100 sweet water wells, stadium, police stations, prison, and a lot of local and central government offices. There is a big difference between the Las Anod in 2007 and the one at this time. Anyhow, the Somaliland government had already declared that it's not foghting with its citizens, but is always attacked by armed militias and terrorist groups who came from different locations like the somali region of Ethiopia, puntland and Somalia. As Somalilanders, we don't agree the government to kill its people and that will never happen. Dhulmahante, the majority clan in Las Anod, has different settlements and divided policies. Apart from Somaliland, some are in puntland, some are in somalia and some are in ethiopia. Finally, it's good for puntland and Somalia to not interfer Somaliland interior affairs and stop attacking Somaliland forces who has accass to keep Somaliland borders based on international frontiers law.

I am not one of those people like Cambaashe and the Minister of Information Saleebaan, who are used for the massacre of their people. You are all well aware of the violence that has happened in the region, starting from the murder that occurred on the 26* of December, followed by the peaceful protests by the civilians and the unfortunate violence that has led to the deaths and injuries of civilians. This chain of events has consequently triggered the chaos we are currently witnessing. I was leading a delegation from Somaliland, which came here to Las'Anod (to resolve the matters]. I want to let you know today that the President derailed every step we have taken to bring peace. On the 6° of this month, a conference for the Garaads (traditional leaders), the 33-member committee, and the community leaders was to be concluded, and a communique on their stance on resolving the standing issues was to be released. However, a fight started that same day, and the whole matter was managed poorly. I, for one, was not convinced that this was the way to reach the right solution. On the second day, with the cooperation of the Garaads and the International Community, we started to work towards bringing the two sides to the table. We recommended the president, with the support of the EU and Finnish Foreign Minister's Special Representative on Peace Mediation, the implementation of a ceasefire and the retraction of the [Somaliland] armed forces back to their bases. Both the Garaads and the International Community agreed to these recommendations; however, the president sabotaged this effort by accepting only the ceasefire. Everyone can imagine that a truce will not be effective if the forces of the opposing sides are a mere hundred or two hundred Meters from each other The second thing to note is the issuance of a press statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that the people fighting in Las'Anod are terrorists organized by the Garaads; this has exacerbated the situation. War crimes were committed starting from the 27" of December when military forces were used against peaceful protests. The governor and the region commander are responsible for the first action. I, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was in the city when the indiscriminate bombardment by the Minister of Interior Affairs, his delegation, and the Commander of the Military was carried out on the second day. I believe this bombardment was carried out on the orders of the President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Army. I want to clarify; the president sabotaged everything we tried to restore peace. For example, when the first recommendation failed, the European Union and I agreed to get the traditional leaders from the western parts of the country to communicate and engage with the Garaads to resolve the standing issues. The same day this approach was agreed upon, the president organized a meeting at the Presidency and unilaterally declared that he would send traditional leaders to the town of Yagoori and that all matters would be resolved peacefully. There were many talks regarding my staying Las' Anod, and I want to make it clear to everyone that I was elected from Las'Anod and elected by the people of Las'Anod and represent Las' Anod in my Speakership of the House of Representatives. Therefore, I am with Las'Anod in both its quest for peace and if it has to defend itself. ENDs
