This video was filmed in January. I apologize for being so late with it but I have been working on some potential big changes for the birds and I. Hopefully something will come of it. Thanks for being so patient with us. We love you all!
Thanks for the update! Sorry to hear about your breakup with Nacho (love the name), but it seems like Beatrix has really come out of her shell in exchange. She's willingly spending so much time close to you and the camera.
Beatrix has really changed since I lasted watched this channel. Nacho is a good name for him! The last few months have been busy for me as my grandfather had a heart valve replacement surgery
Birds chose who they choose but after the time from when this was shot and now things may have changed. My parrot Dobby has decided my sister is his true love and gets scritching duty. I'm protection, and walnut provider, that's just the way it is. He doesn't hate me or bite, he will step up when I ask so I'll take what I can get as long as he's happy.
Loving winter over summer all comes down to one thing: getting warm after being cold is nicer than getting cool after being hot. Throwing on a big cushy blanket after coming in from the cold is one of the best feelings in the world. Walking into air conditioning when you're hot and sweaty, on the other hand, is like jumping into an ice bath with b.o. thrown in for funsies.
Winter lover here I overheat ridiculously easy and suffer bad outdoor allergies so spring - fall is misery for me. (I can get overheated over 74F degrees) If i do get too cold in winter I can put on more clothes, but can't remove more in the summer. Yeah the brown and grey can get bad, but see alot of clear blue skies and calm lakes. When the snow happens it covers the area and you get a dramatic contrast with the brown and white that is pretty. As for the death, its a part of the cycle of life. But alot of things are just sleeping, waiting to wake up again. So a season of dreaming and before new beginnings.
Seems to me that Beatrix still likes you. I'm sure she hasn't forgotten all you've done for her, plus she doesn't rip your arm off now when you give her a blueberry, so maybe one day she will bond with you.
I'm not a winter person either. I love spring and summer. Thanks for the video, it's always great to see you and the birds! Good weather is on the way!
I hate winter too. I'm from Key West and now live in Indiana, never appreciated Florida weather until moving here and seeing my beautiful yard die every year.
The first day of spring yesterday and we get an upload today, take it you were a bit elated, now that winter is over? Jokes aside depression really sucks,I have it too. Your birds are cute and crazy as always.
Awesome aviary!! Such a joy to see them hopping around the ropes and branches. They are swift at landing from flight compared to say ducks! Hope you're all enjoying spring now.
Winter can be fun when there's sledding or cross country skiing, and the temperature is above 20° f. And it's not too warm so that it's all muddy. But I get it, winter is not fun in many ways. For those wondering at my seemingly random comment, early in the video The question was posed why would anyone like winter or fall. I dislike fall, just because it reminds me of going back to school. I don't know just the leaves turning brown, I never liked fall. Much preferred the other three seasons. Even spring when it gets super super cold, because that kills a lot of the bugs who thought the days of freezing were passed.
as a converted winter person who grew up on the gulf coast, my body just can't do heat anymore. summers are miserable and expensive. but I live somewhere that gets snow, so it at least gets quiet and pretty. cold and no snow is gross and sad.
Nacho! And I follow a couple of cats and of them is named Nacho, the other cat is Jemma :) But the pretty snow :) when we actually have snow But yea, the deep freeze was horrible. Our entire town lost power for a bit
As a Californian, I love winter because that's usually when it rains (even if it's only a couple days) and the grass grows super green and lush (even if the trees are 'dead') because once it stops raining all the grass dies and summer is just very yellow if not on fire.
Personally I hate the heat because i cant cool down as easily as i can warm up and as for humidity i don't know many who enjoy it. Depression for me also hits harder headed toward summer and into winter.
I'm feeling attacked as a autumn and winter lover lol. I love all the seasons! They are each good in their own ways, and when you actually get proper winter with snow and ice it is so many fun things to do. And since I handle cold better than heat it is so nice to be able to not be too hot all the time. Having a cycle of death and rebirth each year is a nice refresh. But I understand that someone who does not get an actual winter would dislike it. When I lived in a part of the world where there was no snow in winter it felt so dark and depressing.
you hating winter is making me laugh. i just love winter. it feels private and cozy. plus, i have so many finches that it always feels like a tropical spring 😂
It’s not a true toucan video til you hear an oh god from Brock 😆 I don’t like cold weather either. I hate snow and I’m so glad to live where there’s none!
I like spring. Summer however I do not like because it gets too hot for me. No one seems to care though lol. And no I do not hate green and weather that supports life I just hate being hot lol just wanted to say. Great to see the birds and looking forward to future videos 😊
Good to hear you're fine. The freeze Pained a lot of Folks in the South. Bittersweet you had to rewild Nacho after Months of rehab/Quarantäne.😢 But isn't it worth it?❤ He has to 2 Females to flock with, it neares Spring and you wondering he loses his Head?🤣🤣🤣 Yeah it sucks. But it isn't unheard of for Birds to get 'wild' again once with there own. Most often they tame down again after a while. In specialy when the Flock is tame, somewhat. Give him time to live trough his Hormones and surely he will remember you again. You can be proud of yourself, how far you came and what you achieve for your Birds and you.
About the seasons: yes, it is somewhat depressing, when most of the green dies, and the land looks a bit barren for some months. On the other heand: spring really gets its punch through the contrast with winter. It is absolutely amazing, when everything sprouts with fresh green, and there are many flowers that need this time, when the trees are still withour leaves, and sunlight reaches the ground. I would not like to live in a region without pronounced seasons. Plus, the regular freezing keeps some nasty bugs and parasites in check (unfortunately, there are many others that survive winter without problem.) About your plants: I find palm-trees a bit boring. There would be so many nice fruit trees for a subtropical climate: Several varieties of guavas, pomegranates, maybe pistachios. And the special of the day: Acca sellowiana = Feijoa. It's related to guavas, it's evergreen, it develops tasty fruit, but the gorgeous flowers are also edible, for humans as well as for birds.
Some of us northerners like the change in seasons for fall colors and snow that is pretty and not a problem. It’s just too much to have it hot for more than 5-6 months. February is the worst for seasonal depression.
Thanks for showing us, I absolutely fucking hate the winter, because not only does it get cold, but it disincentives me to go outside and I gain a lot of weight that I have to lose in the summer.
i dont know what kind of ants took up residence in the planter, however ive used play sand to keep ants and other bugs from laying eggs in my planters.
We would have to come up with a method to heat the area as well, of course. But even just cutting down wind-chill and rain would do wonders to keep things alive. So long as the area stays over 30 degrees, the plants should be fine. And during the day with the sun out it would probably be warm enough to keep the birds outside at least during the day for much more time than usual. It would definitely be trial and error but maybe it would get us by until we can move some place warmer.
Brock isn't a breeder and the great thing about birds is that you can just not incubate the eggs even if they DID copulate and lay, which they almost certainly won't. It's a lot easier to just put an egg in the fridge than to say, spay a female dog who might be pregnant. Unless it's held at a very specific temperature and humidity and rotated regularly for some time, there's no life inside it. Just yolk and albumin like any other egg.
Out of curiousity how can u tell the difference between all 3 keel bills? Honestly from the distance they are staying from u they all look the same :/.
Not only can I tell them apart visually, but I can tell them apart but their calls as well. I guess I'm just used to seeing them. Each of their beaks shapes/length are a little different as well as the pattern on it.
She's choosing to come near me for an opportunity to bite me. If I wasn't handing her food she'd be ready to take my hand, arm or head the moment it got close to her 😂
I noticed Brock doesn't approve of my screen name. Dude...I understand depression 100%. I also chose to keep Toupac's spirit alive to steer people to your channel. You are an amazing person! I cried with you with Ripley, Maeve, and Toupac. ❤
They're going to breed..get a hollow palm log...but be careful...the male will become exreamly aggressive..can unalive the other birds..just sayin'.from experience
