Due to my year starting out a little differently than I originally thought it would, I have had to make some changes for the benefit of our family. Because I like to be very open about my channel and things that are going on, here is an update video for anyone who is interested. The next video will have minis!

You're doing good. I don't really like "shorts" and prefer the longer videos. Will watch whenever you post. Continue being a good mom. Those kids need you more than I need to watch videos. So I'll be here with you and prayers for the family!

In knitting we have WIPs (Works in progress), UFOs (unfinished objects), and hibernating projects. UFOs might never be finished, but projects that are hibernating are basically in a timeout. The Fairfield is hibernating, the 95 prompts were UFOs. In my mind, something that is hibernating isn’t causing stress, while UFOs hang over me like a dark cloud!

I hate the shorts and refuse to watch them, it's losing half of the screen (sort of vertical letterbox) so you can't see what's happening anyway so I think they are pointless. I love your videos, you do what you need to do, your family's health and wellbeing is the most important. We'll be here when you can do videos etc. Xx

Videos about how you manage and run your store sound excellent -- so many of the online selling platforms are just bad and/or expensive, so running your own shop out of your own website is something I'd like to learn more about. Please tell your child your audience is cheering them on. The world is hard right now and illness only makes it harder, but there's a whole big community out here waiting for them when they can rejoin.

I like longer, detailed videos for miniatures, although shorter ones have a place for quick ideas. Good luck with home schooling. Life is short. Enjoy your children while they are young. It is the only 'hard work' worth the effort. It might not always feel like it but it really is worth it. Time is the biggest gift you can give to your family.

I've found that I see lots more shorts from my subscriptions. Personally, I don't like them, and usual hide them. I think more and more creators are using these shorts and they're pretty much a recap of a longer video I've already watched. Just my opinion. Congrats to you for taking on home schooling. I don't think I could do it!

1. There are a LOT of fantastic home-schooling help websites, and some are very interactive and fun. Do some research on the subject(s) you worry about (math), and you'll find plenty of help. 2. Commission work can be very stressful for some (like me) trying to meet deadlines and client expectations. 3. I didn't like "Shorts" when they were first introduced. I now tolerate them as ads/commercials so I hit the link to the main video to see what's new. 4. All the changes you discussed here are smart, regardless of the circumstances they were born from. Healing hugs and much love to you and your family, Ara!🥰

Wasn't part of the plan, but I ended up homeschooling my three all the way K-12. Best thing that could've happened! Kids are now wonderful, grounded, independent adults, and we're closer than we ever could've been if we weren't so much together. Take advantage of your local community - there's more families doing this than you can imagine! You can outsource literally any subject that feels intimidating. Flexibility is everything, and you'll be amazed how much learning happens while you're just living life together!

While your miniatures, including all of your projects, etc. are amazing and are what brought me here, I find that the "time we spend together" is what brings me back so consistently. I'm a homeschooling grandma. Believe me when I say children are more than capable of teaching themselves. Allow them to research by themselves, they can do it. All the homeschooled kids i know are very confident and capable in their own abilities, many much more than they ever were at school. Try to find homeschool groups in your area for socialising which we found difficult at first but we now belong to groups which meet up 2-3 times a week. Best of luck, you can do it, I'm certain 🤞

You’re so correct, I was homeschooled before I eventually went to secondary and high school. Before the world had even heard of the internet. Because Mom homeschooled us both it helped me in more ways than we realised at the time. By the time I was ready to go to secondary school I was pushed forward by 2 years. I finished high school at the age of 15, I was also going to collage at the same time. I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was 24, for both words and numeric formulas concerning algebra. Words were never a problem for me as Mom taught me my a.b.c. She knew there were issues but back in the late 60’s early 70’s dyslexia was not very well known. We worked hard with it to the point I knew what I was seeing was not what was written. At the age I was I learnt basic maths to medium maths. Mom left the hard maths to the secondary and high school to teach me. I just was never able to figure out algebra drove me insane. As long as it was based in reality I was fine but algebra oh boy I grew to hate maths. I was sent on a training course after I separated from my husband when I was 23 years old we were married just after my 17th birthday. The training course sent me to have a IQ test to be done so that it would help with a new direction for training to gain employment. After I had finished the tester was surprised at my math answers, I had to show the workings of the math on how I came up with my answer, they were all multiple answer questions. I had started out showing the workings but as normal it just started to look like alpha/numeric soup. So I picked the answer which looked correct I got 80% of them correct by this method. The young man showed me from how I had started as he was able to finishes them showing me that my working theory was wrong even though I had the correct answer. It took time but he talked me through them trying to work out where my problems where, when I told him that it just looked like a jumbled mess no matter how we went at the problem, it stopped flowing down river as if I had hit the rapids in the middle of the river but off to the side was a small smooth flow and my brain jumped onto it in safety. That’s when he told me I had numeric dyslexia it’s not as common as the other forms of dyslexia. I wrote down one of the passages in the test as I see it without making the corrections that Mom taught me to do, and he was stunned. That’s when I told him I was home schooled up to the age of 8 years old by Mom who taught me how to correct my writing to the point that it became second nature to me as long as I was not tired. I was the very few who has double dyslexic who also scored an IQ of 145. He told me if I had been at school in my early years I would have been classified as unteach able but my own Mom blow that there right out of the water. I still cannot do algebra but I have never needed it in all my years in the workforce. The biggest problem with education is that they are trying to teach every child the same thing regardless of the fact that they will never use 60% of what is taught the minute they leave school. School has become a burden to children they have lost the joy of wanting to go to school. In the UK they did the 1st year of secondary school doing all subjects. From that point we than talked about our two most important passions of what we wanted to become when we left school, from that point you only studied the subjects that were needed for your number one and number two choices for what you wanted as a career. Australia and America on the other hand did not go this rout back in the 70’s and 80’s if we had stayed in the UK I would of been on track to work in my chosen field as a apprentice but because I was 15 when my parents had been given the green light to immigrate to Australia I had to go with them by law. When we got to Australia the law stated you had to be 16 to finishes Secondary school and 18 to finish high school. I was forced back into school to re-take my School certificate and my High school certificate. By the time I had finished my school certificate I was already bored of school 4 months into my high school certificate I was angry, I walked out of school and started looking for any apprentership by then, because I had been told I could not go into diesel engineering as it was a male dominated field of work. I got a apprentership as a bookbinder in the end totally left field to my dreams but I loved books so I thought it was good enough. Until that is the chemicals used in the printing industry caused major health risks and by the end of my apprentership I had to leave the industry. That’s where the IQ testing came into the picture to help with placing me into a new line of work of all places in the computer industry. Thankfully by this time mid 80’s the Australians were not as ridged as they had been in 1978 and jobs were finally open to both genders. By this time I could not go into engineering like I had dreamed of because of a motor bike accident which had left me semi disabled back then, that was part of the reason for the IQ testing. Because my Mom took the time and patients to teach me back in those early days I was never left behind like so many other children who suffered from dyslexia she gave me the passion for reading even if I still need a dictionary to read to this day, but she also taught me to never be scared to ask someone to read a word to me when I am not able to see it or understand it until I have heard the word spoken, my new husband laughs but not in that nasty way but in that loving way as he knows of my problem. I am thankful for the young man who was my tester that day all those years ago and understood so much more than any of my maths teachers ever knew. He helped me navigate maths in a way that I was able to finally follow just not algebra but all other maths started to look right for me. I’m thankful to my Mom for playing scrabble at every chance that we were together for helping me to navigate the world of alphabet soup and made it possible to love reading even if I have to re-read a paragraph once in a while so that it makes logical sense to me. And for never giving up on me in those early years that I have seen teacher do time and time again when a student is struggling with their a.b.c’s I am a number one fan of homeschooling because at home you only have those in front of you to focus on and your able to help them get through that most frustrating moment when they are struggling where as in a class of 30 students they would be left and placed to the back of the class and labeled as a difficult and impossible to teach, and that label would follow them all through school and no teacher would ever tack time to find the underlying problem. Even to this day they still mislabel students with dyslexia and never stop to see if this is a problem for them. All schools should have all children that are struggling tested on the IQ test one on one with a qualified tester as they are trained to pick up the issue of dyslexia in people. There are so many different forms of dyslexia out there some cannot even see the written word at all, it just looks like a splatter across the page. I see letters and words backwards same with numbers but at the same time the written lines are doubled up but my glasses are designed to fix that issue it was the first reason I needed glasses when I was young my Dad caught me squinting trying to read just one line lol often that I only had to deal with backward letters and words.

🥰 Take care of yourself, too! Having a sick family member, can be incredibly draining. Glad things are going better. Good luck! Thinking of you. ❤

Ara ,you are an awesome ladie .I like the longer videos. And I'm sure if you would just post videos of you and Stormy we would all watch. Your minitures are wonderful. My father built a doll house using an old TV. case and a lot of scavangerd items.Take care of your little ones, they may not remember all your work but they will remember the time you spent with them. GOD BLESS from PA .

I realllllly dislike shorts for the most part and I get SO annoyed with how much RU-vid pushes them in my home feed. There used to be one row and now there’s a row of shorts in between every row of category. Thank you for continuing to be such a huge source of inspiration to us throughout everything else you need to focus your energy on. 💖💖💖💖

100% you need to be able to focus on your family. And if that means you have to sacrifice some projects, so be it. You know we all support you. I am grateful for any projects you do and whenever they happen is okay. Take care of your children’s mother. They need you. We’ll survive if you can’t be as consistent as you have been in the past.

When I've made plans in the past, I picture God up there on His clouds rolling on His back laughing hysterically. 🤣 That's how major plan making has worked out for me. I watch whatever you throw out there. I like longer ones over shorts but sometimes a short shows a tip on how to do something in a better way. I think I'd like to see you make kits too. 💗 You are strong. You got this.

Your talent drew me in, your style and personality kept me coming back and seeing your commitment to your family first will definitely not chase me away! I can't work on miniatures much any more as a tremor has made it too difficult but I really feel like I'm still in the game when I come here and hang with y'all. You take care of and love on that baby and God bless you.

I love your channel & watching your videos and watching you create & do your thing has got me back into some of my hobbies & my Barbie sized miniature work. Your home & personal life always comes before "US" & I personally will always be here to watch & learn from you. It's been a great joy watching you be creative & just seeing all the cool things you have come up with over the years ..

This sounds like a smart plan! I’m sending love and positive Southern California vibes to you and your family. By the way, I’ve heard that the tide has turned, people are getting tired of short form content and are craving more connection to creators. Maybe longer content will make a comeback! I guess time will tell.

Yes, The Stitchery has a great video where she explains how shorts may increase her subscribers, but they aren't people who watch her longer videos and so don't help in the long run. I will remain a Patreon and am here for any content you put out ❤
