A lot of reactor seem to forget that frieren lost to 11 mages with less mana than her. And she also mentions that she would lose against a water mage if they are fighting in the rain.
Lots of ppl also think the 1 elf is Serie but she is clearly way older than Frieren so she probably has more mana making the elf that beat Frieren being Series as void.
I am surprised most reactors are not making a big deal about the revelation that Freiren is now confirmed as the last great mage because she has the holy emblem necklace.

My favourite part of the episode is at 13:00 when they said they can't dispell the binding because it's too strong. But Denken (edited: mixed up my names) says just cut down the tree. It's a throwback to episode 8 where frieren lectures the demon on not having battle experience thinking that breaking the wire was the only way out. So subtle. It's all about thinking outside the box and leads into the continued theme of visual imagination for the rest of this season.
It was Denken that said cut the tree. Quite obvious. This is a further reinforcement of the point that he is not bound by the rules and conventional wisdom and will do whatever it takes - "continue his ugly struggle until the very end" (not translated properly).

The thing about Serie is that, she COULD defeat the Demon King, but like they're always saying, magic is about imagination. You have to be able to IMAGINE something to do it. Serie likes the smoke, she ENJOYS some action, that's why she could have defeated the Demon King, but that still wouldn't be able to bring peace to the world (she can't imagine an era of peace). Frieren is not as powerful as Serie, but she has the potential to.
Serie could or Flamme could have defeated him but didn't because they born during the wars while Frieren was.on her peaceful forest... if they aren't more war, Serie will be bored, that's why she show up 50 yrs ago, she is bored and there's nothing to do because the new peaceful mages aren't as good as the old war mages

I'm not entirely sure if she could...we'd have to learn the Demon Kings actual abilities first. He could have some sort of special power where those with hatred or angry or a desire to fight in their hearts can't hurt me him or he turns them back on themselves or something. Making it literally impossible for someone like Serie to fight him (or other demons). IDK anything, just riffing. But that would explain why someone totally devoid of negative emotions like Himmel could take him down
I really like how pleased Flamme's smile was, when Frieren declared the greatest joy in magic is in its discovery. They both love magic because they enjoy the discovery journey.
Do remembee that those barriers that serie or flamme created and ordinary defensive magic are two different things. Stark may be able To overpower regular defense magic, but he aint destroying one of the barriers.
She lost 11 times to mages who have less mana than her. 4 demons, 1 elf, and 6 humans. Serie is not one of them because she has more mana than Frieren.
We only have seen 3 elves so far in the anime Frieren, Kraft, and Serie so anyone would automatically assume that Serie is the elf who beat Frieren but will eventually be debunked knowing that Frieren specifically said to be lost to 11 individuals who have less mana than her so Serie is not that elf it was someone else.

Frieren doesn't care about either the First Class mage or the Privilege because the main benefit they entailed, she was offered with it and rejected it 1000 years ago already. By the way she gave a meaningful look (which most people missed) when she heard the name Serie in the last episode. Actually someone on the internet pointed out that if you go frame-by-frame, exactly when Frieren started her magic to break the barrier, there is one split second where a black-and-white smirking silhouette of Serie appears.
One thing I do like about this series is that the magic system gets really fleshed out in a way that makes sense. It gives all these younger mages a reasonable explanation for using all these big flashy physical based attacks aside from "it looks cool", but also highlights how scary Fern and Frieren are because they're beating these guys while only using basic offensive and basic defensive magic. Also, the fact that Frieren was doing all this shit while analyzing the barrier is kinda nuts. Old man Denken was fighting for his life out there and Frieren was just casually blocking all his attacks while solving a math problem in the back of her head.
I love the concept of " you must be able to envision the result, to get the magic to do what you want " other shows do it too, but its beyond that, the reason Flamme and the other Elf can't beat the demon lord, is because they can't envision on age of peace and tranquility, all they know is war, and because they can't envision the end result they can surpass the obstacle that is the demon lord, but Frieren a mage of peace, can see herself wandering the world in a peaceful time gathering up magic, at least that's how I understood it

So, the defensive spell has high magic resist and ok physical defense, and trying to ramp up the defense (while maintaining the resistance) would over engineer the spell. So, in theory, there could be a defensive spell that has high physical defense and ok magic resist to counter warriors like Stark, but we just haven't seen a human mage fight a warrior, so we don't really know until the anime reveals
As a manga reader myself I understand that people complain about many reactors underestimated Serie. But that bc this ep portrayed it like that and they didn't read manga so I say people should give them a break, stop spoiling and let them enjoy the show they will eventually realize about Serie in the future ep. Isn't the ending different on this episode? Also, I'm thinking this more complex barrier thing is some sort of foreshadowing. Given that Fern is able to cast spells so overwhelmingly fast, it could be the case that she's able to use that form fast enough (and even if not, a stronger barrier that takes time to build could still be useful in battle on certain situations).
In the manga, it's actually said that Serie is Warmongering so she has no desire or initiative to fight the Demon King, and willing to draw out the battle over the centuries. She is only willing to get involved if it's something that greatly threatens the balance of power between demons and mankind.

Sort of a side thought here... honestly, losing 11 times to mages with less mana isn't even that many considering how long she has lived and how many battles she has likely been in. Plus, she counts having to seal Qual as a loss, which means her criteria of what is considered a loss is pretty loose. Sealing your opponent seems like a win to me. I wouldn't even be surprised if she considers her fight with Basalt a loss given it certainly wouldn't feel like a win even if she did kill him.
Not to mention the fact that these fights could have happened at any point into her growth like say 2 years into her training with Flamme and her being one to take time for granted she could have possibly rematched these mages after a few more years of growth and won but she probably forgot or didn't care to meaning that we don't know that the loss was absolute and that she couldn't have had a rematch after figuring some stuff out.... another thing being that she grows stronger with time and time has been passing

I just realized that all the characters mention how Fern and Frieren only ever use basic combat spells. They learned those basic spells by studying the demon the hero's party sealed 80 something years ago. To the humans these spells are old and common, but to Frieren they are brand new spells that she learned from her time with Himmel and she mostly only uses the basic stuff.

I just picked this up rewatching: Serie “couldn’t imagine” a peaceful world, so she couldn’t defeat the Demon King (according to Flamme) - because magic is the world of imagination.
well, if she love war and conflicts , why would she kill demon king in the 1st place. like, she has all the time to do it, and not even once went and do it.. there is basically no benefit for her to kill demon king...

I dont blame him though, being a part of an imperial mage must mean he strong af, meaning he has confidence in winning. But still though lol, at least be a bit more careful.
He was being careful. He knows she has more mana, just not the incredible amount she has. Denken was losing the ordinary offensive spell/zoltrak fight in the air and had to put more defense shields up, so he decided to try and drain Frieren’s mana but was shocked after his physical fire tornado didn't work, and Frieren appeared with a full-cover defense magic. Since the full cover can drain someone's mana in seconds, as stated to and experienced by Fern when she was training with Frieren. The Fire Tornado forces people to use full cover defense magic and lasts a whole minute and would have destroyed any normal mage, which was Denken’s plan when he said, “I’m going to settle this quickly.”, but Frieren has so much mana it didn't affect her. Then he tried again to force a full cover by using spears of light exploding on impact, which he thought would keep her from countering and finally drain all her mana. Still, she countered him with a zoltrak from somewhere surprising him and making him lose focus then rushed him, causing him to put up a defense and depleting all his mana.
“Making it quick” is really his only tactical option. He can’t tell exactly how much mana Friedan has because she is hiding it, but he knows she has more than him, meaning that he will run out of mana first in a long fight. So his only chance is to try to win quickly by overwhelming her defence with an all out attack. If it fails he’s out of mana and he loses, but if he doesn’t try that he loses anyways.
He also hit her with enveloping attacks that strike in all directions, forcing her to erect a full omnidirectional shield, which we know from earlier is the most mana draining form of defence. So Denken really hit Frieren in the most optimal way possible for someone who doesn’t know her intimately well enough to know about any specific weaknesses (if she has any). She was just that much stronger and better that even when he played all his cards in the best possible way, he couldn’t win.
17:13 i know other shows probably do it also but i always think of mushoku, how because warriors just move so fast and mages need to activate spells a mage is almost always in a disadvantage
in frieren mages have the advantage against warriors. stark gets washed against any high tier mage. also he's fast but he ain't that fast, Lugnar caught him pretty easily and he isn't even a top tier demon, people tend to forget about that.
@@boboyo3140 I mean yeah I can see mages being stronger , they don't seem to need incantations for spells and some spells seem to be more on the physical side ,but I don't think stark would get washed by just about any high mage. I mean anyone taking the test would be considered a high mage and I can see stark wining against a good amount .
@@boboyo3140 I mean I can make a excuses to defend Stark He seems more like a tank type so he's not that fast He's a good warrior but definitely not the best ( the old dwarf took him out in one hit and definitely wasn't in his prime) Demons are probably a lot better physical than humans so it's easier for one to catch him But the main point I guess is I think if warrior don't have a advantage against mages they kinda become useless
@@dragonslikebananas5486 only a few mages who took the test could be considered high ranking mages, and if we're talking about top tiers, the list goes down to only Frieren... by high tier I mean first class mages or above (great mages are above first class, frieren is the last great mage and Serie is one as well)
@@dragonslikebananas5486 warrios don't need to have advantages over mages to be useful. for instance stark was pretty useful against the dragon because solar dragons are resistant to magic so he had a much easier time against it than frieren would have. also he's the tank of the group, he's in charge of the vanguard and he's the most useful to anything physically demanding. but in straight up fights against mages, he's the one who would be in a disadvantage (for once, mages can fly..). I don't know if you're a manga reader or not so I won't say anything more, but this becomes more clear later on.

Best writing? I like Frieren, but am I the only one recognising the flaws?! Seriously, we've seen Frieren collect spell ever since episode 1. Receiving parchments as quest rewards, or books, stealing spell books from dragon nests or chests. And NOW she declines it and says she doesn't want to simply receive a spell, that the whole point of magic is discovering it? Yo, is this the same person writing this stuff?! Did the author get hit on the head and has amnesia? IS NO ONE ELSE SEEING THIS $H*T?! I feel like I'm in a crazy world!
She doesn't want a gimmie. She wants to earn it. It's like not wanting to just crack an RPG game and go straight to the ending scene. Hard for someone like you to tell apparently.
i think that you missunderstood the message. The point Frieren was trying to make is that "if i could just ask for any spell in the world then where is the fun?" She is actively doing tasks that end up with her getting a new spell. She did not decline a spell, she decline the idea of just getting what she asks for just because. give me 1 example in which she got a spell just because she asked? In every situation she helped somebody, did some chores, fight something, etc.
Every single spell Frieren has is something shs earned after doing quests or beating monsters. That's the point, she wants to earn the spell she gets and not just be given it for free.
