Some Reasons Why You Shouldn't Degree Your Camshaft

I degree every simgle one. I assemble dozens of engines a year at minimum and I find a few errors here and there. Recently had a fancy timing set that was not only way out, but 6 of the indexing notches gave me the same reading. It got to the point I asked another builder I know quite well to come check it out and tell me if I'm just going crazy today. He got the same damn numbers. Glad I checked that one.

Like you said, probably rare that anything is wrong, but if anything does happen to be off, the last thing I want to do is two consecutive LT1 Fbody cam swaps! I degreed my camshaft when I installed it and everything matched the cam card, but I did receive incorrect pushrods. The bag was labeled with the correct P/N, but the pushrods in the bag were not as advertised. Now, I’m very keen on checking every single little thing that I can.

that is exactly what I wondered about because all the videos I saw on cam degreeing never said if it is necessary, if a camshaft is just being replaced with a new one. I want to know if it ever became necessary to replace the camshaft in my v8 2001 dodge ram, if I would need to degree the cam? I'm learning and I always have plenty questions.

Why do they always make a simple thing sound so complicated to the point that you are more confused than ever ?

What if am getting a long block and I want to put in a cam?

You can always do the Keith Black method of timing a cam, with no tools and no extra room needed.

Degree them all!

97 + 117 = 214 not 224 as in the video

Cam card specs are overrated by the cam maker

224÷2 = 107 !!!!! Dude go back to school !!!! Its 112 !!!!

Because you don't have the tools is NOT A REASON not to check your cams position. Absolutely WRONG by ignoring the many varibles that can locate a cam in the wrong position. My video will HELP guys. Yours does not in this respect.
