You don't need to press the button to turn it on, just rotate the dial. The button only needs to be pressed when changing from auto to manual focusing.
Hamish, you're a nursery child, playing all along with the TVS III door mechanism. That motor drive sounds somehow afflicted, whilas doing its job. I agree with you, the TVS II is the much better choice.
The problematic ribbon cables must be taken into account (especially in cold climates). - STOP turning the units on and off (or making the lenses collapse & extend). Just allow the cameras to "Go To Sleep" - Like a 'paperclip', bending them too many cycles causes an eventual break. Replacing the battery should be the only time a lens gets tucked into the body... How do I know? - - - I'm a camera technician😎
From your written review I'm paraphrasing "it just doesn't work for me" is an overused phrase that seems to suggest that you are different in the number of joints in your fingers. Your whole job is buying cameras and writing about them, you are not a photographer, judging by the example photos that you have posted. Please temper your comments with the understanding that a lot of your audience are photographers, and ones who own and use these cameras, for more than one roll.
It doesn’t suggest that at all, it suggests that my personal experience - for the many reasons I outlined - led to me not enjoying this camera. Why should I temper my comments? Are you suggesting that if I don’t personally like a camera, I shouldn’t talk about the reasons I don’t like it? By extension, I should only say good things about cameras? That wouldn’t make for very good reviews. And, ignoring the quality of my photos which seems incidental when my criticisms were entirely about user experience, how do you suggest should my understanding of my audience change? I’d personally suggest that the audience I am talking to are people who haven’t shot even one roll - both “photographers” and people who otherwise just enjoy cameras who are looking for a range of opinions about a camera they are thinking about buying. That’s what I’m providing, a simple opinion to sit in the context of other opinions online. At no point do I assert that what I say will match the opinions of others. In fact, I actually say the opposite to that. Of course, when it comes to potential audience, I do concede that there might be some people who are apparently looking for “photographers” to validate their own opinions about camera choices they have already made… but I’m not sure why I should worry about offending them…? Perhaps they should grow thicker skin and remember that it really doesn’t matter if someone on the internet says they don’t like their precious camera - as after all, this is only cameras we are talking about here.
