The roots tell you a lot… you just have to know what to look for. When I buy healthy plants, I don’t typically repot right away but when it’s a rescue I bring it him, let it acclimate for a few days, and then get in those roots to see what’s going on. Soft, mushy, and smelly roots tells you there’s root rot. Dry and brittle, tells you that it’s been underwatered. If you are JUST starting with plants, I would purchase plants that are overall healthy and gradually move to rescue plants. It can be so rewarding but even more challenging when you are still getting to know the different challenges of plants.
Girl I just got this plant, it looked like yours very sad. I cleaned it up and repoted the plant. Now do I let it dry out completely, does it need full sun, etc help with its care please
I need help!! My Thanksgiving cactus has gotta soft & wrinkly. I know I havent over watered, if anything its not watered enough. Could that possibly be the problem, not enough water? Even tho it's soft & wrinkly?
@@sarahsharp8595 yes it likely needs water! With succulents like thanksgiving cactus, the leaves basically hold water, making them full and firm. When the leaves get soft, wrinkly, bendy or squishy, that means they've used up a lot of that moisture and could use more water! I got so confused with this too at the beginning lol cause I thought soft leaves = too much water, when it's the opposite! Hope that helps 💚
They should have classes in public schools where kids are taught how to properly take care of plants, and they could use it to teach things like biology.
Or... Hear me out here... Parents could start teaching their children again! You can literally teach them anything and everything and not wait for a stranger to do it for you! 🎉 I'm not being sarcastic though.. 😂 Seriously, teach your children stuff they need to know for the future.
@@AmysAttitude a lot of parents do not know how to take care of plants either… I’d argue that they are worse since kids probably look it up on the internet when their plant does weird stuff
We learned in 3rd grade in the early 2000s at my school, they taught us how to grow beans in sandwich baggies with damp paper towel, and I've been growing my seeds like that ever since ! :)
I keep my Starbucks plastic cups from my cold drinks and use them for plant pots lol love that they are clear too I even save the plastic pup cups for small baby plants and succulents and I keep the lids too put a little piece of tape over the mouth hole and you got a humidity dome lol 😂 makes me feel better on spending so much for a drink lol when I remember how expensive clear pots can be lol
I love my Swiss cheese plant. Last summer I had to chop it down into parts as the mother plant root got some rot. But now those individual parts are thriving.
I would love to have these plants, but my cat won't stop playing and eating plants so I am forced to have a pet safe collection. My main plants consist of spiky cacti that my cat and dogs learn to not touch.
@@FreeElf023 hmmm, my cats tend to leave the plants that could hurt them alone. Except for poinsettias but I stopped buying those bcuz of the cats. However, they have not bothered any of the three I bought that day. They don’t even smell them. So maybe you’re cats will be ok?
Would love to see more posts about pests! I felt like my plants were always getting infested… and sometimes hard to catch when you have a bunch of them. And keeping them isolated for weeks meant having them in my bathroom with no light. Such a struggle!
Interested to see your update!! I got one super similar, but leaves were actually rotten in the stem of the adult leaf they developed in. I cleaned them all out and have 3 leaves with new growth that look like they might be ok. She's due for her second watering since arriving and I plan to put her on a plank once I see the new growth is healthy!
I was too scared before to try and take care of plants much less propagate because I had no idea how to even do it..I had a plant start dying on me which made me really sad, so I took some cuttings and now I have 2 babies that are propagating in water and I love them!! Thank you so much for all you do and all the helpful info you share with us! 🥹💖
God it never gets old watching your videos! I’ve learn so much from you it’s crazy! Just about to make a big batch of your soil mix to try can’t wait to see how my plants like their new soil mix!!!! Xoxo❤
i love seeing them in nature. My home town have them in the rain forest, massive leaves that are 1-2 ft wide, and they crawl up large trees. They love water, or hanging from trees. When i see these at the store, they look like baby plants.😅
@@mlane8560Make that hydrogen peroxide mixed with water, right? I don't think you're supposed to use it full strength but I could be totally off there.
You are incredibly excellent at giving all that information in a short! That is wild! I used to not rescue plants because I thought it would just die at the crib! However, I have learned from watching videos (yours) and experimenting many can be saved! I think it works best during the growing season!
Hi Krystal! You and your videos are amazing and have helped me a lot in trying to develop a green thumb. I recently got a croton, not knowing how fussy they are, and apparently they require bi weekly fertilization? But I don't even know where to start on that. I would love some advice! (I know I can just use Google and I will, but I like your plant tips best haha)
I'm giving my first attempt at the clearance section. Even went bold and got an orchid. I took all the moss off and did it in a vase with water. It's in pretty good shape just without flowers and a bit of soggy roots. Wish me luck!
Everytime I look at my Swiss monster I wonder how it’s still alive… but when I see a baby leaf I think I’m a wizard… she just keeps growing and I literally forget about her since she’s on a really high shelf but I changed my potting mix to yours months ago and just.. leave it. Gets watered when we remember that we have actual plants in the house that aren’t just fake. So it’s not me that’s the wizard. It’s you! Thanks for saving my plant babies ❤
Im addicted to the Lowe's plant clearance section.... I've just rescued a 5 ft tall White Bird of Paradise $15.00, and a Monstera Delisiosa..$7.00.. I sometimes can't wait to get home and cut all the dead leaves off in the parking lot..
I just took in a lot of plants that someone left behind to die. I'm a little overwhelmed and excited. I don't even know what all of them are yet. I know several have root root. I'm so glad you share all these tips!
I always wonder why some new leafs are growing brown- have this for my normal monstera and also monkey monstera . Entire plant is healthy, no bugs or anything yet still new leaf growth is damaged 😢
Advice welcome/needed! I have a monkey leaf which looks exactly like this one that keeps developing yellow leaves! When it first started, I repotted it into a bigger pot and it was happy, the yellow leaves stopped. But they’ve started again and I don’t know what to do!it’s only been 2-3 months, there’s no way it needs repotting again!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos. You've taught me so much about caring for plants and my houseplants thank you. What store do you normally buy your plants from?
Bought a mad looking completely droopy plant for 99p from Waitrose, leaves are green and banana yellow, the guy serving me said it’s dead. Three bowls of bottom feeding with water later and it sprung up faster than anything I’ve seen before. Am so smug. 😊
Woah.... I finally got to learn that water part when my plant's leaves start drying and i just cut that dried part to make it look fresh but after few days the whole leaf dries
I work at a wholesale plant and flower company in the plant department and Krystal has helped me save many plants for myself and loves ones and actually SELL two of my planty rescues 😊
Yaaay my monstera finally looks amazing!! Thank you so much!!!💚🌱, btw that Castile soap is that specially for plants or is it the same stuff from Spain? I mean human soap haha 😆 have a marvellous day or night hehe 🖤
I have had many adonsoniis and I love them, so beautiful but I can NOT keep the pests off them no matter how hard I try. So unfortunately I have decided (just like alocasia amazonica-Polly) that plant is just not for me and can't live in my home. I definitely admire them in everyone else's collection and when I see them though !! So pretty
My adansonii has yellow leaves and I'm still trying to figure out if it's underwatering or overwatering. Also still trying to get rid of whiteflies in the house which doesn't help the poor plant
