Same here I had a disordered eating thought process. Layne blew my mind made me realize how much straight out manipulation and lies people are willing to tell you just so they can make money off of you.
I think Paul got the taint thing from the book "Countdown" by Dr. Shanna Swan. She wrote about the correlation between shrinking taint size and the increase in phthalates from microplastics entering our food/water. SHE'S the taint-measurer! lol
@@kylleepstein6954 She goes over many causes ( studies) or suspected causes. Really good book. Like Paul perhaps gets a little to pointed at times. It Certainly did not all boil down to Spinach, or Plastics. Many causes. Also not just about taint size. That is just one example of changes.
@@kylleepstein6954she literally repeated the study and found the same results. It has to do with plastic contamination messing with hormones while the fetus is developing
If you feel so better on carnivore it likely is from it being an elimination diet. You took out something that your body has problems with. The trick is once you have a good baseline you bring other things in one by one to find out if things then cause you issues then you know what to keep cut out. Everyone is different and has different food intolerances which is why you should customize your diet to what works for you not off what works for someone else.
Listening to fear-mongering content creators led me to dealing orthorexia symptoms for over 10 years. We really do need people like you, Layne - ie people just as charismatic - to cut through the bullshit.
As someone who also tries to make a show based on facts instead of fear mongering, that last rant was very encouraging. I’d much rather have modest viewership and my integrity than millions of views.
@@Melesniannon Thanks for taking the time to look at the channel! We definitely have a problem today where people's attention spans are so short, they only read a title or headline, and won't spend 5 minutes reading an article or watching a video. RU-vid's algorithms definitely encourage more and more extreme titles and thumbnails. I disagree that we use fear mongering in our titles, but if I can encourage you to take some time out of your day to actually watch, I think you'd be surprised. I'd recommend our recent episode about Roe v Wade being overturned. That's an easy topic for people to get heated over, and I think we did a good job. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6PJ5prueyLE.html
@@AmericaUncovered It has nothing to do with attention span. It has to do with the fact that there is no such thing as context-free reporting. Observable facts take place in the context of the environment they occur in and are interpreted through the perspective of the person observing. The perspective with which your videos are viewed is influenced by the titles you use to draw them in. If you have fear-mongering titles, you stimulate fearful interpretations. If you use these titles because, as you say, "RU-vid's algorithms definitely encourage more and more extreme titles and thumbnails", implying you agree that your titles induce a negative reaction that will color how people view your content, you apparently are quite interested in sacrificing your integrity for viewership.
Oh, Paul. He's a perineum...er, perennial favorite. I've gotten a kick out of a few of his videos, but this one taint my favorite. As a physician, he should have used the medical term "gooch." Anyway, I like that Paul is ancestrally-consistent...living in a house with electricity, flying back and forth between his homes in Costa Rica and Austin, driving a car to the store to buy food, and filming it all with a smartphone. This is just what our ancestors did, when they weren't baking paleo brownies. Some of the folks in that carnivore community have stated that we should sun our anuses (no joke) and that us men should also sun our testicles. "Hello, Home Depot? Do you have any lawn furniture that would allow me to orient myself in a way that I can sun my testicles, taint, and anus? Hello? Are you still there? Hello?"
When I was in 8th grade (20 now), I unfortunately fell for many claims similar to these and developed an eating disorder that almost killed me 3 times. Thank you for everything you do Layne, you are helping people more than you'll ever know!
90% of what you read and hear is bullshit. Rely on scientific facts only! Also, you know your own body, so what works for you in terms of health and building a nice physique, you need to find out for yourself. There's a good reason Dennis Wolf's physique suffered year after year on the Mr. Olympia stage. Because he started to listen to gurus rather than himself! I think it's the stupidest thing ever. Why would anyone trust someone else in terms of what's best for their own body than themselves? Guess people are just lazy at the end of the day. I've never counted a calorie in my life, nor have I ever relied on anybody else's diet or training recipe, and I've been ripped to shreds at 88 kilos as a natural bodybuilder. So start doing your OWN research and start believing in yourself!
As for the measuring taints comment... Dr. Shanna swan went on joe rogans podcast, and explained her findings that microplastics/petrochemicals caused taints to shrink and that this was related to lowered sperm counts.
As for the reason one would consider studying baby taints - something most mammals share is that males have larger distance between anus and genitals. When you identify the sex of newborn animals you often look at the taint size.
Yeah it’s weird that layne gets so weird discussing it…it makes it way more uncomfortable than many people probably took it when Saladino brought it up
Thank you for shining a light on these quacks! You are the voice of reason to all of us trying to navigate this fitness/nutrition world! Best quote ever “ If you stop consuming it, they will stop doing it!” 👏
Paul saladino is correct about the shrinkage of taint size. It is backed up by studies and case studies by Shanna H. Swan, Ph.D.. Who is she? She is one of the world’s leading environmental and reproductive epidemiologists and a professor of environmental medicine and public health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. An award-winning scientist, her work examines the impact of environmental exposures, including chemicals such as phthalates and Bisphenol A, on men’s and women’s reproductive health and the neurodevelopment of children.
I should read Countdown by Swan fully for more details, but her message seems a bit different than Saladino's. Her focus seems to be on the effects of chemical endocrine disruptors like phthalates used in plastics that cause low fertility and such among humans and other animals. Saladino on the other hand is mainly trying to scare people away from vegetables and into carnivorism. The messages look alike, but one is nuanced and well documented and the other not so much. Then again, I still have to read Countdown thoroughly so I might change my mind completely in a few days.
@@ThingsYoudontwanttohear let me know what you think. She has been on JRE pod explaining it as well. So maybe have a listen. Another thing I don't like is Mr norton making fun of stuff like this. This is not a joke. It's sad. We need more people to bring this issue up
@@helios4425 Thanks for the tip. Also After Skool has a comprehensive video with Shanna Swan about this topic. I agree with you that declining fertility by petrochemicals is a serious topic and I hope that Layne will do a serious video about this and how anogenital distance (agd) connects to infertility. I will let you know if I change my mind about Saladino, but I do think Layne makes some fair points about the negative psychological effects of fear-inducing pseudo-scientific claims that many "experts" like him spread on social media. I fear this is a 'cry wolf' situation where Saladino has made too many incorrect claims in the past to now be taking seriously though in this case he might be partially correct.
Thank you for this video! I did Keto years ago and that led me into carnivore and all these gurus made compelling arguments for the diet. However it just didn't work for me so I started adding carbs back in my diet and felt better. The worst part of eating all this meat and fat is I would have bouts of diarrhea and stomach issues for no apparent reason out of the blue... usually at 2am when I didn't change any part of my usual carnivore diet. When I'd ask about this in forums and media, I was told I was doing something wrong or had something wrong with me when I said the diet doesn't work for everyone. I followed Paul Saladino and while I still do hes just become annoying and over the top... now I can't wear clothes that aren't 100% cotton, drink la croix water because the cans are lined with plastic and my cell phone is frying my brain... Every vid is him yelling that something is bullshit... its too much... Now I come to you and you are telling me that fat makes me fat as well! This would make sense since I would plateau on carnivore...have very low insulin responses but still gain or not lose weight... Thank you for being the voice of reason!
Thank you Layne for dismantling Paul’s bullshit so well. You are one of the only 4 channels I am subscribed to on RU-vid right now. You are my part time teacher. I love how much knowledge I got from watching your videos, especially in comparison to the time invested watching them. Keep up the great work bro... I honestly really value and appreciate what you are doing. Sending good vibes your way!😉💪
@@anggadi1564 I said I was subscribed to only 4 channels, but I was wrong; I am subscribed to only 3 channels: -biolayne -Renaissance Periodization (with Dr. Mike Israetel) -goddess energy (tarot reading)
I don't even know WHAT a child's taint is. And now that I've watched this, I'm definitely not googling it for fear of ending up on some agency's list somewhere.
In German, taint translates as "flecken", what in English is staint. It would have been better to say balls for people who don't speak English as their first language.
Layne taint measurements are very real and in fact one of the few measurements available for androgenic effects in development with higher androgenic activity indicated by a increased taint length. Also yes there is evidence that taint length is shrinking over time. As far as blaming vegetable wel that’s something else entirely. Sorry don’t mean to be critical but taint measurements are really not that funny and the fact you think they are shows you really have no clue what they’re used for in science
Regardless of whether they're useful or not, the claim that spinach in baby food could be a cause of shrinking taints is so fucking beyond ridiculous. Paul is being an absolute moron here, far more than Layne is by not knowing about taint research.
The part that bothers me is preying on parents of young children. New parents (moms in particular because of peripartum hormones) are psychologically primed to identify and avoid danger, so they’re especially susceptible to this kind of fearmongering.
Man, this video is gold! Doesn’t apply only to the fitness industry but to all information that spreads. As always teacher Layne being real, smart and based on facts.
We do need more awareness of eating disorders. People thought I was the healthiest person at work because I didn’t eat donuts or candy and was fit, slowly over years I became more and more obsessed with “bad” foods going to give me AID or cancer, I listen to ppl like Paul Saladino. I went over the edge and developed terrible orthorexia, binge eating, and bulimia. It was very sad and very dark. It’s been a long and painful recovery.
Yes, this is a very real risk of following these people like him. It's easy to become so obsessed with everything you eat and touch, that the cure becomes worse than the disease. Good luck to to you
Saladino is referring to Shannah Swan's appearance on the jre. Her research found pthalates/BPAs effect on testosterone/taint size/fertility. I really hope you take a closer look into that at some point. Average testosterone levels are decreasing and pthalates might be a contributor.
And let's see what's a bigger impact. Our FUCKED waterways full of microplastic, chemicals that are banned after decades of posioning us, and research chemicals with no safety data or plastic packing? Plastic packaging is mostly stable and just fine until it has been given a reason to breakdown (ie heat)
@@michaellopez-lq5fn I think layne is just unfamiliar with that research. It's not his field and he already has sky high T. He's not worried about T levels.
You are definitely on to something with the eating disorders. After getting sucked into some of these channels I started to really limit lots of foods but later released it was all fear-based
the taint claim comes from animals eating micro-plastics and the male offspring having smaller taints (which shows possible problems with testosterone). Obviously dose matters a lot, but i do think plastic needs to be researched a lot more. Europe bans certain plastics, so its clear there must be some valid concerns. Even bpa is banned in the US for sippy cups, so what is that about. Paul isnt carnivore either, he eats fruit and honey. Agree these guru types go way overboard
I think it’s considered a bigger problem because perineum size is associated with sexual dimorphism in general… So in essence these foods are leading to less male dimorphism, so presumably less masculine
Massive leaps in logic are being made here. First you said, "perineum size is associated with sexual dimorphism in general", okay by "associated" what do we mean? Is it causal, if so where are the controlled trials? Is it even directly correlated? If so, what's the r^2 value on that correlation? Are there confounding variables (hint: there are hundreds)? Then you said, " these foods are leading to less male dimorphism". HOLD UP, you need to prove the first part, and then if you're successful (I've already looked, you're not going to be), then you need to prove that consuming "these foods" at a young age have ANYTHING to do with perineum size. Is it causal, if so where are the controlled trials? Is it even directly correlated? If so, what's the r^2 value on that correlation? Are there confounding variables (hint: there are hundreds)? Okay, now show me your evidence, it better be fucking good.
There is someone who measured them. Doctor Shana Swan she was on Joe Rogan #1638. If I remember they measured animal and human. If I remember correctly she said something about chemicals from heating plastics coming into contact with your food. Something about rodent studies where offspring of the pregnant rodant that had these chemicals in food while pregnant had smaller taints.
Look, I’m no fan of Saladino by any measure but the plastic impacting fetal development has been thoroughly studied. Dr Shanna Swan is a good resource to consult on this. Not sure how much plastic contamination impacts the development of an infant (ie baby food) whereas her research shows more of an impact on pregnant mothers with a developing fetus
You are so right about the news part,i keep telling my friends that if media spread positive and/or fact based info,in a matter of time they will go broke, people want drama..
The media is all just fear-mongering propaganda, always has been, always will be. I usually don't bother to read the news anymore, and my days feel much better. When you walk outside in the real world, you see the reality for what it is, not what the stupid media paints it to be.
Fear of loss the #1 motivator of mankind. Call someone. Tell them you want to thank them and warn them, the next thing they will ask is "what do want to warn me about" and not care why you want to thank them.
Whatever you think of all of his opinions I think we can all agree that plastic packages is not the best choice when it comes to baby foods. And I do think there are studies showing that childrens genitals are shrinking. That’s not to say that I agree on everything that Paul is claiming.
Spot on. Fear based diet culture is a dangerous thing. Trying to explain to people that your body actually does have a set up to control for the occasional bag of Doritos falls so flat. Continue the good work.
Cool. It has been studied. And every time I post the doctors name who studied it, who was also on Rogan, my comment gets deleted. So much for data>feelings.
Other people have posted the name and their comments seem to remain. RU-vid can get REALLY iffy with links to sites that aren't RU-vid, I've had posts deleted to various scientific studies, as well as other primary sources (government sites, university pages, you name it). RU-vid seems to have a "nuke first, deal with consequences never" kind of approach to links these days. So if your post included a link to the doctor's site or study, that might be the issue.
Yeah I fell for that animal based garbage a while back and was fu*ken miserable.. following a balanced diet that includes most food groups & have never felt better 💪🏻📈
Thank you for this, the amount of guilt laid on parents on what they feed their kids is astounding. Sure some of it is greenwashed, but feeding kids vegetables isn't bad FFS
Layne, I have to say you you have been making people think more critically and not just consider the knowledge based on just face value. I used to be a keto freak and watch Dr Berg, Thomas for my info. Keto did help me lose 12kg in 3 months but after I watched one of your podcasts with Dr Dominic on Joe Rogan, at first I was like pretty conflicted with your 'facts' but after listening to some of your content and also content from coach Greg, I tried the balanced approach and flexible dieting. And on the balanced approach I lost another 10 kg in 3 months. And my blood markers improved with more strength in the gym. So ya thanks again for your content.
I don’t even care about the meta-analyses. We’ve been farming for 10,000 years for a reason. Plants and animals are good food and easier to harvest when you grow them vs having to hunt / gather. As for the ideal diet or effect of chemicals etc on longevity or overall health (forgetting taints), Unless you have a population of 10,000 identical twins living identical lives in the same places where the only difference in their lives is diet and you follow them from birth to death - pretty tough to draw any real conclusions on what is better or worse due to confounding factors and multiple uncontrolled variables. So Layne is 100% right - stop worrying about all this crap. You’re shortening your life by stressing about factors that are out of your control.
I had to look up taints. It's not what I thought. You know, that doesn't even make sense. If it was the nards, maybe you could wave your hands and mumble something about hormones. But to say that spinach is shrinking the taints is just random.
If I'm not mistaken, the penises are shrinking claim comes from comparing a well known old study of penis sizes where the average was a bit over 6 inches in length with a newer study where the average was closer to 5 inches in length. The problem is that the old study relied on self reported measurements whereas the newer one relied on measurements taken by researchers in a laboratory setting. You can conclude from that information that penises are shrinking, but it's more likely that dudes just lied in the first study.
Anogenital distance (taint size) is weakly correlated with penis size [30032170]. Wouldn't be very surprising that a change which reduces anogenital distance also causes penis sizes to shrink, even if there is high individual variance.
Layne love ur logic, but u got somekind of hard on for paul, seems like u dont acknowledge or know he no longer a hardcore carnivore, he says he eats like 200g carbs + now but only fruit/honey and obviously the meat n organs, also if he such a flop how come u didnt destroy him on that debate u had with him on mark bells podcast if anything u both came out on par. Those short vids he does are just shock value, but i do agree with u definitely not healthy for peeps with eating disorders and stuff
This is the rant people do not want, but we all need. From the fatality rate of eating disorders to the artificial negativity of the news. This rant should be posted on billboards.
I have a bad addiction to watching his video. It’s bad because I get mad as Fuark listening to his dangerous u true claims but at the same time sometimes it’s so fucked that I piss myself laughing, keeping me coming back for that laugh
Oh my what a strange subject...not you Doc, but this dude Saladino. Why would anyone ever think of that ??? Another great What the Fitness Friday Dr Layne !!!
I belive he's referring to this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uo-kSxHNSDQ.html In which they correlate plastics with decline in "taint" size. If I remember correctly is starts with rats, and then they study it in humans. And they correlate it with the increase in plastics. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I belive this is the missing context when referring to taints.
I've been saying for years that we need to be "click responsible" and avoid adding views to bad content. Even I thought have to admit that I am sometime victime of click baits
Check out the JRE episode with Dr Shanna Swan. That’s where the taint size reference is from. Lots of compelling evidence, I highly recommend checking it out.
Except you can't trust Rogan to have a fair & balanced show. He's trying to scare people away from a plant-based diet. That's what ALL this stuff is about in this video.
This video presented a straw-man. Paul Saladino does not promote eating meats exclusively. He includes fruit, honey, and raw dairy. I think he might argue against oxalates for other reasons besides kidney stones. Also, you didn’t really address his point about plastics other than calling it fear mongering. From a scientist like yourself I would hope to see a more thought-out response.
Most people don't eat the packaging. Now, one might have some theory about how microscopic parts of the packaging are somehow accidentally consumed, but such a claim requires not only evidence that this happens, but also that such consumption has an adverse affect on people's health. And yes, the studies would need to examine this specifically, you couldn't just grab a different compound and claim this is similar therefor the same. A scientist doesn't need to give a more though-out response until scientific evidence has been presented that is actually worth responding to. Saladino claims it's harmful, burden of proof's on him.
