Cece and Boo are very lucky to have someone so attentive looking after them. This isn't anything you did wrong, even the trained doctors missed the problem. I think you did everything right when you insisted there was a problem being overlooked and they had to look closer. I'm glad Cece and Boo are doing well now, and I'm glad you are too 🙂❤️

My Pom is getting a dental on July 6, so good to know this information. I adopted him 2 years ago and he is 9 years old, so I know he needs the dental done. I tried brushing his teeth but he wasn't used to it, so he didn't like it. We will try to do better. I'm not sure what they will find, but I'm sure he will need teeth removed. Thank you for your video and that CeCe is doing much better.

I feel you! 😢 It's not always easy to brush an older dog's teeth, it'll likely take quite a bit of time and require a lot of patience but you're doing the right thing by taking him to get his teeth cleaned. And thank you for adopting as well - you are amazing!! ❤️ I hope everything will go well with his dental and he'll be back with shiny & white teeth 💕

I think you should get a Pomeranian if these guys can raise two Pomeranians in the worst city in the world then anything is possible, and you shouldn’t have much to worry about other than the puppy phase. They live in a Third World country and are still able to raise these dogs quite well so you should be able to as well.

Cece looks so much like my Daisy who passed away 5 months ago. We got her at 8 weeks and had her over 14 years. Watching her health decline at the end was so hard and I had a lot of guilt wondering if I would have done something different or found the problems sooner if she would still be alive. But know that it’s not your fault. These things happen sometimes no matter what we do. ❤️❤️❤️
@CeceFamily
@CeceFamily Год назад
I’m so sorry for your loss! We as dog owners always feel like it’s partly our fault for failing to notice the signs probably because our dogs can’t talk - the guilt will always be there no matter how hard we really tried - we will answer ask ourselves many questions: what could we have done, could she be saved if we found out about the problem sooner, etc. but eventually I think it’s important for you to remind yourself that you really loved Daisy with all your heart, did everything you could with the knowledge you had at that time and she lived 14 years full of love and care and I’m sure she would be up there in heaven feeling grateful for all that you’ve done for her and the life you had together. Stay strong! ❤️

Don't need any mistakes, at least her Embark came back at 100% clean that's a plus for me. Please don't hesitate to send anymore advice you can think of like best food, etc. I am used to small dogs with pencils for legs and are in the 6 to 7 lbs range and a fenced in back yard as I have Miniature Horses also.

The rescue already took care of his teeth but he will not let me near his mouth with toothbrush. So, I give him Greenies everyday and am trying to train him to "like" toothbrushes. But he is a smart pom and won't come near me when I am holding it.

That’s great that you’re giving him a dental chew daily in the meantime ❤️ It’s not always easy to train a rescued dog to accept teeth brushing and it will likely take a bit longer but I’m sure he’ll eventually get there as you keep training him to get used to it and as you gain his trust more! ❤️

Always look at their teeth before buying a dog. Poor dog. Lucky she had you. ❤ Poms seem to be prone to this problem. Not your fault- genetics the vet said. Don’t feel bad. You brushed the dog’s teeth. I had a Chihuahua, brushed his teeth, never took him for a cleaning, never had a problem for 16 years, dental or heart, all fine, then he passed away. Genetics. Plus teeth are overcrowded in a Pomeranian. Try a new business: dog dentures! 🐶😻

My 8 year old pom got his teeth cleaned for the first time, i just started to be financially stable this year, i got my dog a check up blood works x rays, allergy tests etc nothing alarming came out tho just found out he is allergic to chicken and needs to drink more water due to a small problem, we are redoing all his vaccinations too, he is doing great and will confirm when doing all the tests in January, i got him another companion my baby pom 4.5 month old, now my older is drinking more water from her plate and my younger drinks from my oldest, they are getting along amazingly. Dogs need budget plus need diet plan too, which we can look up on social media and with the vet's approval. I feel so blessed to be able to afford all these expenses easily, something i was not able to do 2 years ago.

@CeceFamily
@CeceFamily Год назад
I’m not a vet so I can’t give out medical advice but I think it’s kinda unlikely for a Pom of 10 months old to have a dental disease and it’s probably just baby teeth falling out just like your vet said. If you’re in doubt, maybe you can seek a second opinion from another vet and also ask him about the breath issue?

@CeceFamily
@CeceFamily 2 года назад
Yes you can but it’s not completely necessary yet as they still have their puppy teeth which will gradually fall out as they grow and the adult teeth will fully erupt at around 6 months. This is when you should commit to a daily teeth brushing routine but for now, just train them to get used to getting their teeth brushed and maybe brush them every now and then if you have time is totally fine! ❤️

@CeceFamily
@CeceFamily 2 года назад
Thank you for your encouragement! 🙏 Ideally, it's recommended that dogs should get professional dental cleaning once a year starting from the age of 2. Small dogs with overcrowded teeth might require more frequent cleaning though but generally once a year is good! I think the vet said something that made a lot of sense to me, she said that dogs are just like human, we brush our teeth twice a day but we still need to go to dentists twice a year to prevent dental problems. So in an ideal world, dog's teeth should be brushed daily and cleaned yearly ❤️

This was really good info to know. Our Casper is 14 months old now and we are keeping an eye on him. Our other Poms stayed with us for 14-16 years respectively, with the one who had problems with anesthetic later we found he had CHF, and not much you can do on that. (small dogs and Poms especially are prone to that and Collapsed Trachea, which the oldest suffered from. They are beautiful Poms, and glad you did your research and got CeCe the help she needed. Thank you so much for your comment! ❤️ I'm not a vet either but I imagine it would be incredibly tough for a dog mentally and physically to be under restraint with their mouth open for an hour. Also they're scaling and cleaning the teeth with sharp tools that could potentially damage their gum if they move around. Most importantly, from my research, during an anesthesia-free dental cleaning, no dental X-rays could be taken and they couldn't go below the gum line to clean if the dog has deep periodonal pockets or if teeth need to be extracted, making the dental cleaning almost pointless 😢 Also thank you for sharing your experience with your other Poms as well! Do you mind going into more details sharing your experience with a Tracheal collapse dog and what we could do to make their lives better if they have it? Did he end up having to undergo a tracheal ring surgery? We'd always love to learn more from experienced Pom owners like you! And yes unfortunately some dogs have underlying health problems that make it unsafe to undergo anesthesia such as CHF that yours had :( I believe that's why a health exam prior to anesthesia is important! At my vet, if a dog is over 7, on top of the blood test, I believe the dog is required to take additional tests such as chest X-ray to make sure they don't have any cardiac problems.

@@CeceFamily Our oldest Pom ( Linsey) was the one developing the CT. It seemed to (coincidence or not, unsure) act up when we had her and Lil Ricky at a vet/boarding place while on vacation in FL. They stayed their before and was SILs vet and knew in hood hands. By this time Lil Ricky was on meds for his CHF for maybe 2 years and Drs said maybe 3-6 months. (different story, but tied in). Anyhow. Ricky was having collapsed and it was frightening. His meds were eating away at his kidneys. It was either his heart or kidneys were going to go, Dr told us matter of tine. He seemed fine when we dropped them off at the boarding place as they always stayed together. And somehow, when Lil Ricky looked back at us before going in back, wife and i both knew “we may not see him again”. And 1/2, way into our vacation, Got call from Vet late at night that Lil Ricky had passed. (He was my wife’s dog, Lindsey was mine). Casper (my pic now) a bit of both. Anyhow- back to the CT. When we went to get Lindsey, she seemed fine till she got home, other than was lookng for Ricky all over the place. It was tough. and then she starting “honking noises” which we weren’t sure was “kennel cough” or what. So we took her to a vet and they did X rays and discovered the collapsed trachea and said there are a few options. 1- She had to lose weight (she was 10 lbs). sometimes 11. 2. Meds (one was the Perosidine or whatever you mentioned and getting a Pom to take meds is another story.- they helped, but also started to show side effects as doses increased over time. 3. They could put a stint in her but she was already like 13 at the time and higher risk then younger pups. That was a 50/50 chance of working and the Dr didn’t recommend it due to her age. Diet, meds and not get excited. Lindsey was with us for maybe 2 more years after we left Floria that day. For most of that time, she was calm and always a calm dog. loved to play ball when younger, but then just did her thing. heading into 2021, her honking and coughing was keeping us up and we know it wasn’t giving her any comfort so we took her to vet (really great Anumal Hospital thst is “cadillac service w/mercedes benz prices (she was worth it). Oh forgot to mention she was panting a lot. This was maybe Jul 2021, they gave us stronger meds. (horse pills). REALLY- She was stressed as if it much less get a pill down her throat that i wpikd have to cut up. This just seemed to make her more anxious and she was panting more and did ok IF she could take the pills. (why not liquid form?). One med was a sedative that helped her. Week maybe after that visit, when she was taking the meds she seemed ok for a bit when in the sedative, but the other meds had her very anxious and she wasn’t herself. and it just got worse After couple of calls to hospital, they suggested changing meds and other things and that was temp. still wasn’t going to get that big pill down her throat without a fight (Poms pick up every trick….) she was all night for 2-3 days, pacing and panting, wife and I started to talk our options and bring her back to animal hospital to see what they could do as she was just uncomfortable (We are now in Aug 2020). We called the animal hospital and explained what was going on and they took her in and oxygen tank and IV, and she was resting. we left her there for the night and have the Drs check in the morning on meds Next day, the Vet called and gave us our options, we kind of knew it was coming, and they let us come down and see her for a bit. She was out of it, but at peace. Asked if we wanted to hold her as she went to “sleep” and said “no”. it was tough. But we didn’t want her to suffer so we could enjoy her company I bought up the kennel cough and Lil Ricky as this all seemed to start when we took her from the place in FL. (Decent place, just sadly, she was never the same and Lil Ricky passed alongside of her in the same kennel. We don’t know (presumptuous) if that visit and having the other Pom pass while we were in hotel triggered things, but it just never went away. and progressed over time. So my recommendation for CT is to keep dogs within weight management, excercise- decent good without the garbage, and if you start hearing frequent coughing that sounds like a goose, go get them checked up. this requires X-Rays both Ricky and Lindsey were being treated at the animal referral hospital (seriously, they do it all there) and got great treatment. The staff was forever so kind. Shortly after Lindsey left us, we got a package in the mail with a card and they took a plaster paw print of her to use as a Christmas ornament. (They remembered Lil Ricky and although he passed it n Fl, they sent us a card for. him as well. I bought up Lil Ricky as Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) has signs you can look for and is very common. Ricky always had less energy. he was happy being by wife’s side. Not sure if a regular checkup with Vet or why he was seen that day, but forever grateful the Dr looked at his tongue and saw that it was bluish and we needed to get him to hospital right away. He did well on meds when we could sneak them in (cheese, meat, anything). and they expected him to be with us maybe 6 months and think maybe 2 years plus he stayed with us. But the meds require follow up and blood work and long exposure does or may create a problem with his kidneys and Drs said on his last overnight 1K hospital stay in O2 tank that they can control his heart or kidneys but not both. He already collapsed twice in n us (just tipped over) and we kind of snapped him out of it. So check CeCes and Boos tongue for discoloration and if look bluish, get them checked up. CT is all depending on dogs age and what X Rays can be done. Keeping them within weight and calm can make things better for them. (Lindsey was always nervous) Sorry so long. We missed them and said “no more” when Lindsey crossed the Rainbow bridge, but the house wasn’t the same and Aug 20, we said goodbye to Linsey, Jun 2021, said hello to Casper (nicknamed Dawgzilla) he’s something else. ) So we are keeping an eye on him. have him under a health care plan to take care of things and hope he brings a lot of joy when he lets us rest. So that’s as condensed as I know. We still feel Lindsey may have developed kennel cough and was stressed at place n Fl after Ricky passed with her in the same kennel. but it’s presumption Lil Ricky never was an exerciser and am sure he was born with the CHF, but he did like walks otherwise, he never left moms side (under her arm). They were both well loved Ricky was 12-14 lbs and would say he was overweight a little maybe, Casper is 7lb and expect him to stay in that range. i don’t have a channel on you tube. wife has pics of the dogs on FB. they just live in our hearts furever, and blessed. i’d like to get another Pom as a playmate for Casper, but prefer and older one and no more every 2 hours in middle of night for potty break. Keep us posted on how CeCe and Boo are doing Alan

@@stemmentor9700 omg such a sad story my heart goes out to you! 🥺 I can only imagine the pain you had to go through when you were dropping off Ricky and Lindsey at the vet for your vacation in FL not knowing things were never gonna be the same again … and that it was the last time that you could see Ricky! It’s just so heart-breaking 😭 Thank you for sharing your story, your experience, and lots of helpful tips for us and other pom owners here! We’ve learnt a lot from you and it’s a comment that I fully read but I’m sure I have to refer back to over and over again in the future because there’s so much wisdom in it! And yes the potty breaks every 2 hours can be very detrimental to our sleep and healthy lol! I’d love to have another puppy at some point but that’s something I don’t miss at all! 😂

my dog's teeth hardly need cleaning after I started her on a mostly raw meat-only diet. She is thriving and seems to have a new level of energy like a much younger dog. I think plants and processed dog food contribute to teeth and gum issues. Same as with humans.

@CeceFamily
@CeceFamily Год назад
Congrats on getting your own Pom! Let me know how it goes - first few days are gonna be tough but it'll get better don't worry! Hmm regarding insurance I'm afraid I can't name them here since I haven't had any success claiming any of my bills and they rejected all my claims on the basic of some "pre-existing symptoms" on his health records so yea can't really vouch for them lol! But if you have a new puppy with a clean health record, I think any reputable insurance company will work just fine! Make sure you check their reviews, and their terms and conditions very carefully to see what types of diseases they cover and if they have any limits (for example, some will cover dental work while a lot of others don't) before buying their insurance though! Best of luck!

Surprisingly I’ve rarely brushed my boy’s teeth, however he loves to chew a lot. He’s 4 years old, and the only problem he’s ever had with his teeth is when he got a piece of bone (it was a cooked bone) stuck between his teeth. I definitely need to brush his teeth more, but I honestly forget about my own teeth.

My Pom lost all her teeth. She was only 2 when I sent her for a cleaning and the vet took most of her teeth out. She was shaking when I picked her up so much. Unfortunately even with cleaning she lost all her teeth. She never had bad breath. She eats wet dog food, her tongue hangs out, she will be 13 in April, and thank God is otherwise healthy. She is the smartest, best behaved dog I ever owned, and I am so blessed to have her. She copes well for not having teeth.

This video brought me to tears as I remember so well how I felt last year when I took my 9yr old pom, Carmi for dental cleaning. When I fetched her I was told they had to remove 3 of her teeth. The sad part is that her breeder told me I don't need to brush her teeth if I give a specific brand of dry dogfood. When I started doing researched I came across your video"s... I have learned SO much from it. HUggs and kisses from Carmi to Cece.

I'm so sorry for your stress. Believe me, I know it's difficult. With the 3 Pomeranian's I have had each one a different DNA each with their own health issues. I started crying at the beginning of THIS video because with my last Pomeranian, a Merle Pom, she had 10 teeth pulled as a puppy because she had such a small snout, then I brushed her teeth daily, when I did mine then I'd do hers. She had 2 other professional dog teeth cleaning after that, all was well.. At age 9 she started getting horrid breath so I took her in for 4th dental and at THAT cleaning suddenly she needed 18 teeth pulled. I was like WTF? WHY? IT wasn't until 4 months later her Lymphnodes in her jaw/neck started to swell, and that is when she was diagnosed with Mandibular Lymphoma. I am not telling you this to make you worry more please understand, just keep checking her teeth and her neck Lymph glands. I am so sorry, as a PoM MoM I know what YOU feel, too. Take care 🙂 ❤ If you want to ask me ANYTHING, don't hesitate.

Thank you so much! I'm sure with 3 Pomeranians, you have been there done that and went through these all! I'm so sorry your last Pom had to have 18 teeth pulled when she was 9 😢 Sounds like bad breath is a very good indicator to bring them to a dental!
