Training doesn't actually mean they are constantly training their artists for years to debut. Many trainees are already very talented vocally because otherwise how would they even pass auditions? A few months to fine tune any skills they lack vocally would be enough, if at all. Artists in the west rarely are given "vocal lessons" after they've signed a deal with a label. The talent is already there. The people who need vocal lessons have been signed/selected for something other their vocals, which is how we're at the situation we are with Le Sserafim.
Thats why the original BIG 3 is called THE BIG 3, they marinated and cook the idols they wanted to debut, not like hybe that keeps debuting idols and their branding and concept is just a copy of what is trending nowadays, just like lesserafim, they dont have a consistent concept, they copied latina sound with antifragile and unforgiven, they copied tyla water vibes with smarter, they do hiphop with easy, they do sexy with fearless, like theres no goal with their concept, atleast newjeans found their y2k image and concept, as for illit magnetic, its like a newjeans reject song ngL, also whats going on with the hybe japanese girsl? I think people are not giving YG enough credit on focusing vocal prowess. For being a hip-hop oriented company they factually pay a lot of attention to vocal unlike popular belief. They had debuted vocal divas such as Gummy and Lee Hi and Big Mama. For group wise, YG tend to focus on balance meaning each member as a specific role to play whether it vocal prowess or stylistic or rapper. In each group YG debuted, there is a vocal prowess (ex. Big Bang’s Daesung, 2NE1’s Park Bom, Winner’s Yoon, iKon’s June, Treasure’s Jeong Woo and stylistic vocalist such as Big Bang’s Taeyang, 2NE1’s Dara, Treasure’s Bang Ye Dam, Black Pink’s Rose). It’s just that their stylistic vocalists are more known and more specific to YG.
whaaaat when was dara considered a stylistic vocalist?? I'm korean and I remember Park Bom being the main vocalist + stylistic vocalist (bcuz of her powerful and unique voice). Park bom was such a sensation back in the day, she was literally the jennie before jennie happened lollll (not fashion wise but everyone went home early to watch her on '2ne1 Tv' after school). Everyone knew her solo songs You & I and Don't Cry. It's sad but Dara was always criticized for her lack of skills compared to the other members :/

Yes, Park Bom was sensational back then for her unique tone but I wouldn’t consider Park Bom just a stylistic vocalist as she had wide range. you forgot the vocal queens themselves, MAMAMOO. for me, as I've seen these groups perform live, the most vocally stable among them with strong and quality vocals are EXO and MAMAMOO. These 2 groups do not sing, they SAAAAAANG!
Same, bad vocals can ruin a song (heavy autotune and computer pitch corrections sound awful) and limit a discography (idols lack of vocal skill can limit the variety of genres to sing )

well i went to BTS concert being a bandwagoner of their fame and found myself watching them sing live like 20-30% of the entire concert, If I only knew I'll be hearing a backing track I should 've just spent that VIP ticket money for a 3 day beach staycation. I think hybe have turned the kpop industry and their groups into a market product and the whole vision have turned into money, money and more money. it’s kinda unfair because at the end of the day they debut undeveloped idols and these idols have to face the hate and it’s not really their fault, it’s on the management only. They focus more on money than the artistry of their idols and here where the industry begins to lose its fun, because where is the identity? It’s also unfair to think that for example most of the members of babymonster had to train 4-6 years while illit trained for barely 6 months. That’s where hybe is ruining the industry, because at this point anyone who have a pretty face can become an idol and it’s unfair to the talented kids who work their ass off and singing is really their passion. But anyway, I think in the long run the idols that will survive are the talented ones because there’s only so much that a company can cover up.
This isn't a new phenomenon. Labels have often fallen into this. It's a money grab - find some attractive artists, give them some catchy songs, rake in the money. The problem is, what's the long-term for these artist/groups? People who are attracted to the "new" and "catchy", don't form lasting attachments to any particular artist/group, they just move on to "What's next!". For instance, I bet that a lot of these new Illit fans used to be just as hyped about New Jeans or Le SSerafim, but now... This is particularly unfair to the artists who are being used to line the pockets of studio execs. TikTok doesn't sell albums or pack stadiums or sell merch, and that's where the real money is. This is short-sighted greed.

The only group stand above all in Hybe is BTS. I don’t mean to sound I’m looking down on other groups or artists in Hybe but I guess this is the only option for Hybe to play with since BTS on hiatus. Say what u want about the Big 3. But one thing they know how to do is pick great talents and train them well, especially SM and YG. Hybe might have joined the Big 4 because of how big they are in the market now but it’s becoming clear their main focus is to drown out the industry with their groups all at once and create trendy songs for the gp. And I think I know you know what is that something going on in HYBE. 5:41 This is why no matter how people say YG title tracks are not good, YG stans know they will BANG on the live stage. All of YG music is made for the live stage with a live band. and the artists would be running around the stage, jumping, doing choreography, but still sounds good and even better than the studio version. I think YHS being an idol himself knows how important it is to do well on live stages. Studio tracks can be tweaked but live performances are real-time. The audience can easily tell if you are doing a half-assed job. So he works on building their stage presence and their vocal abilities. But management-wise, he sucks.
If you compare illit and babymonster, illit has more of the general public because that’s what hybe focuses on, the viral marketing. while baemon have a loyal fandom because yg focused more on the talent marketing ( for example in today’s win, babymonster had 92% of the voters while illit had only 8%!!!) What do you think is more important? Personally, I think a fandom is more important because they are the ones that will buy tickets to watch you.
Something fishy is going on with the voting whenever hybe is involved ngl. But as I said, we see from the korean charts that the gp are also starting to root and acknowledge babymonster because they’re also sick of only seeing pretty faces so babymonster will only continue to grow. As for illit, their growth and future success sadly depends only on the producers work.

That's why the Big 3 are called "Big 3", the Big 4 don't exist, Hybe only gained popularity because BTS is there but in terms of quality that the other 3 companies have, Hybe has nothing. They can say what they want that SM takes a long time to debut their trainees but at least they are prepared and if a trainee has little training time, the company makes sure that they improve in that short period of time. SM artists have an artistic mentality, not influencers, Giselle was criticized a lot for her dancing and she silently practiced and practiced at it, now she receives praise for how much she has improved. NCT WISH just debuted and they were already praised because despite the nerves and just debuting, they have been doing a good job in singing, in addition to the fact that the main vocalist was a trainee for only 3 months, his first singing class was in SM and he was still chosen to debut, he is the main vocal and he is an incredible singer. The kpop scene basically reminding every newbie in KPOP, why BIG 3, the holy trinity of KPOP exist, YG, SM & JYP have been in the game for how many years and their trainings are notably recognized by a lot of the people in the industry. The only people I can give my hats off from HYBE are the artists from PLEDIS, I know HYBE bought them bc PLEDIS would bring reputation to the company, but the rest? You would never hear them good in live performances, except maybe that maknae from purple group. BIG 3 will always be BIG 3. It can't be added or changed.

The thing about Being yg fan is u have to wait 6~7 years for a new group. But it's worth the wait. The group YgE produce u can tell there's preparation and polishing of the talents.
Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s worth such a long wait. Like 6 years of training for another 6 years of fame? Seems unfair to me. Either allow your idols to have longer careers or maybe don’t marinate them for so long. And the saddest thing is, that once they debut, they don’t release many songs at all, which I thing is really sad. I don’t say release a new song every few month, but maybe release a longer album every year or two? Like more similar to what western artists do, when they have a long track list of songs

(BigBang GD and Taeyang was basically child when got into yg) We see with blackpink/baby Monster and so on. 7 years Baby Monster debuted after Blackpink, now I wonder how many years the new YGBG will debut after Treasure hahah Treasure is now going to their 4th year this year. A good song but not being able to sing it as well as the recording is really a minus point for an idol group. even the kiss of life members said they did vocal training like singing and doing burpees which was very difficult & very tiring, when you train with sweat & blood, confidence will increase because they are already in more tiring conditions & the live stage is not a problem for them

You can tell when a group is not fully developed 😅 and hybe may have viral moments and catchy music but the members and groups need to be more well rounded before debuting. Blackpink for example some were 14 when they joined for the group and didn’t debut until 19 when they knew they were ready for many big stages in their future.

YG talent hasn’t been given enough credits. when you check YG groups even when they are doing solo, they can stand on their own because they have good vocals and can perform well live. Going back 10 years, when people talk about K-pop, one thing differentiate it from the other pop industry is the incredible long training period and intense trainee life where only the few exceptional survive to debut (triple threat). What changing now has been the huge amount of group get to debut and it has become much more easy to become an idol. The results less competent idol get introduced and now public will eventually have less and less respect towards "idol". And all these is kinda origin since bighit become hybe and the success of newjeans. Thats what i unhappy about. Unfair to those talented that went through immense hardship but got neglected. We wanna see talent and hardwork pays, not money pays.
Do not worry. This has happened in the past too. Now, it is raising its head again, taking advantage of the relaxation of restrictions. The first generation was such a mess. If entertainment agencies continue to act like this, Koreans will be the first to get angry. We are a people who are very critical. The reason why such difficult trainee days occurred in the past was because of the mess of the first generation, which resulted in huge criticism from people, and a measure was taken to force all broadcast appearances to be live unconditionally. The result was the golden age of the second and third generations. If the 4th generation continues to appear like this, we will take special measures again. Criticism against them is already boiling over in Korea.
I realize there are a few pieces that are not in play, lyrically, on encore stages… Still… let’s be real. Those pieces (in ear, jumping around, etc.) do not justify how weak these girls’s vocals are. It has to be embarrassing for them. I’m not blaming the girls, but Hybe, BeLift, whoever, should’ve known better than to debut them so quickly. Their sound, the group dynamics, all feel hastily thrown together with no real long-game strategy in place. Shame on Hybe and BeLift.
YG prepare every artist for live performances, to put on a show, they know how to sing, dance and PERFORM LIVE, unlike SM that focus mainly on the singing aspect of artist, dont get me wrong SM artist are really talented as well. YG prepare integral artist, this happens with EVERY YG artist solo or group

Yeah but they are sucks at making songs. I listen to baby monster songs and it’s either too nosy or boring. Yes they can sing but if your song is sucks people won’t want to listen to it

thats why I love PPOP nowadays because they have a versatile voices which even these kind of songs they can sing this better than these idols if they have given a chance and if they know korean words.
if you want to understand YG's original training methods and thought process when it comes to who he debuts and why, I recommend watching BIGBANG the Beginnings documentary. It provides insight into the original intention of YG, and the high standards he set for the first boy group he was going to debut. And yes, he did focus on vocals ALOT even more than image or visuals, or even dancing. He pushed the trainees to hone in on their individuals talents, fostering an environment of continuous improvement, where complacency was never an option. I think to understand things better, you really have to back...where it all started.

As for Treasure and Baby Monster, these kids probably understands hahah But YG was actually also harsh with Treasure, although not as harsh as to with Big Bang due to being his first idol boy group, and Winner/iKON due to the high expectations from people, but he was too hahah But with Baby Monster though, he was quite soft-hearted with the girls which was surprising but also fascinating, however, the expectations were expectantly high too.

The thing is a lot of NewJeans and now Illits music is there’s not much vocal range it’s not vocal heavy it’s all kinda one tone. So these girls can sing on a more basic level but then struggle for lives. I do think they can still get trained to be stronger but it doesn’t seem like Hybe cares to push for that.

Sometimes I wonder if their fans ever feel betrayed buying their albums after hearing the live vocals. I mean, it's their fans' money and how much they love their idols, but if that's the case, how about the K-pop reputation? Music is music when singers sings. It's fxcking painful to witness artists fell into this shxthole just because the labels can. Where's the honor in performing when you can't deliver? Why the need to rush when there is a lack of training? I am speaking as a 2nd gen kpop fan and not just as a YGA fan. Like SM, JYP, YG and even CUBE have had Kpop idols that have gone training and the result? Of course, it's a success. Now, labels under hybe is like cutting the process.
illit is a force debut group, Hype debuted them so fast without even stay train for even a month , this is not good as to not risk the group bec netizens are really hard on criticism especially on idols .
That’s so true. Coz the Kpop is just American pop in Korean language essentially. I remember something Jennie said in Light Up The Sky documentary on what she thinks KPOP is: I think what makes kpop kpop is the time we spent as a trainee. That’s what at least 3rd gen and prior generation stans got hooked up with KPOP. It’s the highest quality (in comparison to western music) of music videos, of performance (singing & dancing), etc. which we trace back to the investment in years of training of these idols to master all aspect of their craft.

Because chiquita is talented already and she’s already into kpop dance and vocals since she was young… just like Bambam and Lisa she is also part of a group that does a dance cover. Prior senior thai idols open its door for her and serves as her one of motivation.
Obviously the hate is unwarranted but I still think underneath it all is valid critcisms of the vocals coming from hybe groups. They know what songs will do well and can make hit songs and their groups are decent performers but what's the point if they can't do it live? Plenty of young idols have debuted in the past and done their first encores fine, because their companies wouldn't debut idols until they had a certain level of vocals. Every group naturally improves even after debut with confidence and experience so hopefully it'll happen with them but there also has to be some internal motivation or push from the company to improve.
Apparently, HYBE must be filled with yes-men internally(management) and externally (fans) because the attitude LSRFM girlies are showing amidst these controversies is not it.

I have mainly heard criticism of vocals towards lesserafim and illit. The others are fine, especially the boy groups, like there is no way SEVENTEEN needs vocal training maybe because SVT didn't debut in hybe. Other boy groups are also good. You can check TXT encore of deja vu or on its live or even behind the recordings .I felt it was good. So for new generations hybe should focus more on vocals.
In my opinion as a HYBE groups Stan, what needs to be done is the refinement process as Efra has said for what’s being criticised (which is mainly the live vocals aspect) and at the same time instead of adopting the 2 albums or mini albums a year strategy with tons of events, concerts, shows, etc.. taking instead the 1 mini album a year strategy is better because sure thing is that HYBE wants to keep its audience and new comers interested in all of this but if HYBE desires to create a number of musical acts that are running long in the market under its belt giving up something at this stage is the better option instead of confronting this kind of decision in a crises shape instead of what’s now still fairly controllable As a fan of HYBE groups I want to see them all running long in the market and from a business standpoint, profit surely is important to run the business but if in the upcoming 10 years as a business I lost my reputation in the market for producing musical acts that can serve what music was originally purposed for the audience to enjoy (which is obviously LIVE SINGING) then in the later 10 years I won’t stand a chance that is better than what I have within my hands right now

Hybe keeps on debuting new groups left and right like they're trying to dominate the whole KPOP industry but the problem is they are debuting idols without enough training period then when they fail to show or meet the set Kpop standard when it comes to performances it will be blamed on the artists and artists only which is sad. Hybe is definitely using the fame the BTS worked hard, they knew that if they debuted a group even without proper training and plan, hybe stans will definitely support them with eyes closed. Look what happened now, internal conflict here and there because they're overlapping each other's group concept. Illit being called as New Jeans 2.0.
I think a lot of y'all are forgetting that HYBE is a company of acquired companies. Y'all are generalizing HYBE way too much considering just how many groups they have under their name. You can't sit here and tell me Seventeen needs vocal training lol. Yes, I think that HYBE needs to do better when training their newer groups to perform live but I've only seen these issues with Illit and lesserafim. So, it's not as widespread as y'all are making it out to be lol. Let's hope HYBE will take all this backlash and actually take the opportunities to fix things. I think Illit will improve, I'm not sure about lesserafim because of the member's personal attitudes. They seem to have settled.
Hybe is good at making these basic ass pop songs that could be English songs and it was refreshing cause K-pop was getting too much noise music types. But now it’s just the same basic songs that are repetitive enough to go viral and it’s cute but it’s not really K-popified anymore it’s just basic. And the more typical K-pop more experimental music is having a difficult time going viral but sheesh is doing well now. But Itzy, Nmixx, Aespa were not having an easy time with their louder music.
Blackpink and bts. The fact that nj fans are dragging bp bec they don't have daesang meanwhile their faves already have one..but what they can't understand is 3rd gen era has the most incredible group line up, the peak of kpop and produced the biggest boy and girl group in the world up to this date and the competition were tough especially if you are competing with bts that has the biggest fanbase. NJ will look like a mid kids if they debut in 3rd gen 😂
I agree that to a certain extent of cos HYBE is being very successful monetarily with their factory line of girl groups but I strongly believe that somewhere down the line, when they start touring and showcasing that type of lack lustre vocal ability in live shows, it is going to be a big turn off. Also to add, Touring and show appearance is THE biggest revenue streams, they dont make that much profit from album sales. You will notice that all the artists that remain in the industry after a while are the ones who do have real talent in singing and dance. In my opinion this type of quick money grabbing short form viral marketing can only push you so far but doesnt carry an artist through a real career. If they dont improve on their training, it is going to haunt them in the long run. But maybe HYBE doesnt even care cos they can just keep pushing out new viral groups every month to replace ones that arent popular anymore after a while.

How about if you get to concerts or music festivals and they still sing over a lipsync perf or they sing along to a very loud backing tracks? That's the time people crave for real vocals otherwise I might just have to lie on my bed and watch YT rather than go to these concerts if they will just serve me these pre-recorded vocals 😢
I think good vocals are gonna make a comeback since everything is a cycle. Hybe is the company to beat and other companies are noticing where they are lacking in and what people dislike about their groups in order to stand out: showcasing good vocals. You can see it clearly with JYP debuting NMIXX, SM finally showcasing aespa's singing voices live and YG focusing so much on the vocals of BM. Also, smaller groups like STAYC, Billlie and KOF stand out because of the freshness of hearing nice vocals live. Even groups like IVE, that started with the same trend as HYBE (focusing more on aesthetic, popularity and concepts) are now improving their live vocals (while producing songs accordingly for that) and people are loving it (I loooove HEYA). So I just think it'll continue that way until good vocals become the new standard once again. Hopefully, because i LOVE live vocals and i'm so happy more and more groups are focusing on that ;;.

NO, their encore stage of today was sadly still not very good. These girls are rookies, I know. But as seen with le sserafim, hybe doesn’t really take improvement much in consideration. Which is why people are already concerned for their future.

It doesnt matter. If an idol debut, that mean that the compagny deem that they were ready for the job. Which mean that they should be able to sing an encore without issues. For example, Blackpink had their first encore like 13 days after debuting. The girls were emotional and crying in that stage. And yet, they still were able to sing well their own song. And i am taking Blackpink as an example because i keep seeing online how some new kpops fans think that the girls are "untalented". So if an "untalented" group like Blackpink can do it, so can every rookie ever.

TXT is different because Big Hit allow them to be creative, so they develop to be an artist, not just an idol. It saw at their improvement and their creativity (make songs and produce songs). In Le Sserafim, they made some lyrics of their songs. Yunjin made some solo songs. An hour ago, I saw Le sserafim perform at Chochella. I think they listen to my critics 🤣🤣🤣 They used backtrack vocal, not loud. They skip some part to exposed the backtrack vocal. They did not always dancing. They sometimes did not follow the choreo while singing. Vocally is OK because Yujin and Chaewon are very good singers and they are always responsible to sing the hard part of songs. Sakura and Kazuha louder enough, but they sing the easy part. Eunchae improved, but the first performance is really bad. So, Eunchae need more times to improve her technique.

I think Hype was trying to create a group-owning company too quickly. It also makes the quality of the group and the preparation of the trainees less. Look at Hype's future debut plans. There will be international bands, ador's men's bands and more

I feel the same, if I like a studio version of a song and I listen to it live and the vocals and the performance is worse/bad, I feel like someone wanted to trick me 😅or to sell me a bad fake product or something, but I understand that some music is made only to be listened through earphone and not live, it's just not my thing
